Nobody's Pfalz but mine. The ex-Blue Max Pfalz reproduction was put through its paces at Classic Fighters last year. Pfalz i Pfalz ii
  2. Hi Guys, just rejigged the images I posted in the first post, so they appear now - thanks to Flickr. Indeed it does. For the sake of maintaining good relations, I'll concede, but only because I'm in a good mood! I've got rellies in QLD, so I'm hoping the next time I get there to see them it'll be back in Brisbane.
  3. Hi Guys, Photos I took whilst at the PLA Tank Museum north of Beijing. Link to more photos below. Type 96 T-34/85 2 Type 85 I Storm 1 Type 97 row Type 59s row Link to more below: https://www.flickr.com/photos/147661871@N04/albums/72157668076731849/with/25597609378/
  4. Sturtivant and Page's RN Aircraft Serials and Units stipulates the following serials for J.N.4s; 3424 to 3444, 8802 to 8901. Out of the latter, 8881 to 8900 were retained in store in the USA, and 8901 went to the RFC. N5660 to N5709 were J.N.4 (Improved) and were allocated but not delivered. It appears all the RNAS J.N.4s were built in Canada. The RNAS also received Curtiss J.N.3s.

I have a walkaround of The Vintage Aviator's Fokker E V waiting in the wings, so if anyone wants detailed pics, let me know. E V 53
  6. Hi Gorby, surprisingly, it wasn't too busy the day I went, but it was an exception. At the various places I went in China, they were all crowded and heaving with people. Inside the 'carrier' there were several squads of young uniformed cadets, which made up for the lack of visitors. Part of the problem with Oriental Land is that it flies below the radar as an attraction and there is no way of getting there if you don't have a car. The Shanghai underground rail is extending the network to get there. It needs it as it's over an hour's drive from Shanghai.
  7. About an hour outside Shanghai is Oriental Land, a real odd amusement park type place that has some interesting military hardware, including a full scale aircraft carrier mock up! The place is truly bizarre. Images and a link to more pictures. read the descriptions under the images on my page, which will give you more info. 8. These are Il-10s, the successor to the WW2 vintage Il-2, although the Il-10 is also a 'Sturmovic', which is a generic term for a ground attack aircraft. Il-10s are not as rare as Il-2s, being quite common; you can find them on public display in museums in Prague (at Kbely - the Czechs licence manufactured them) and Cracow (at MLP), and of course at Monino. The Il-2 is rare, but even then, 'rare' is figurative. I remember passing a couple stacked on top of concrete plinths whilst travelling through western Russia many years ago. There's a beat up Il-2 outside at the military museum in Warsaw and a few on display in museums around Moscow. It's a Nanchang CJ-6, dressed to look like an F-84 Thunderjet. There's two views of it on my Flickr page.

  10. Hi, Images from the Sublime Australian War Memorial collection. DSC_5310 DSC_5422 DSC_5524 DSC_5825 DSC_5777 DSC_5514 DSC_5737 Link to more images here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/147661871@N04/albums/72157665518037679/with/24128165718/
  11. The question was rhetorical, but yeah, pretty much; I've read it was meant to be an F-84 for a movie. It makes more sense when viewed from the front.
  12. Hi Steve, there's a number of them on the far side of the airfield, as well as a large number of other crates sitting about in various states of disrepair. I was urged to take a look in the aircraft dump and on my first visit I got in there, the fence was open, but on the second visit, it had been closed, so lucky I went the first time. I did return to the hotel with half a field in each boot though. Can ya tell wat it is yet?
  13. Hi Guys, A few images taken at the China Aviation Museum, Xiaotangshan, Beijing recently, with a link to more below. Link to page here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/147661871@N04/albums/72157687175041660/with/37627185241/
  14. The early Halis had numerous faults, not just the engine installation or excessive drag, perhaps the most serious being excessive rudder over balance, which was dealt with in the D shaped rudders installed on Mk.Vs - before fitted to the III, which was, as was often the case during the war, originally intended as an interim until the arrival of the Hali IV. A good book that examines the engine installation issues is Rolls-Royce and the Halifax by David Birch, published by the Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust. It goes into considerable detail.
  15. A bit late on the scene for this thread, but if I may, there is a reproduction Dr I flying with a worthy interpretation of 425/17's colour scheme. I have some images here, which might be of some assistance. http://warbirdswalkaround.wixsite.com/warbirds/fokker-dr-i-walkaround Note the iron cross in the frame from the original. The crash diorama was done by the Vintage Aviator lot. This page has a few images of the same aeroplane in different lighting. http://warbirdswalkaround.wixsite.com/warbirds/dr-i-gallery
  16. Hi Guys, I have added an historic MiG-15 of a Chinese fighter ace to my walkaround site. It is on display at the Military Museum of the Chinese People's Revolution. Take a look here: http://warbirdswalkaround.wixsite.com/warbirds/single-post/2017/10/10/Meritorious-Jet-Fighter-Wang-Hais-MiG-15 Mods: This is not an advert and I receive no funding for clicks on my site; it's purely for the enjoyment of others. No, really. Not a sausage, nada...
  17. Hi Bear Paw, I'm not exactly sure what it is that you mean by 'rear flap control piviot'? Is this what you mean? It's located on the left hand side of the pilot's cockpit. This is from the B.E.2f, as I didn't do the B.E.2c. https://www.flickr.com/gp/147661871@N04/pSqgC4
  18. Hi Guys, a request from a forum member has led to adding the LVG C VI to my site. I captured these images during my recent visit to the TVAL hangar. See thread in this part of the forum. Link here: http://warbirdswalkaround.wixsite.com/warbirds/lvg-c-vi Enjoy. Will be adding Sopwith Snipe soon.
  19. You don't click on the photos directly. Look for the 'Share' arrow and click on that and a piece of code will appear, then copy that and paste it onto the page. Should be the same on the phone, although I haven't tried it.
  20. You can use Explorer as a browser - it works for me. Click on the 'Share' arrow and copy the code, then paste it where you want it and voila...
  21. Yep, Steve, at 95 on the gate it is getting up there. That and the weather the week before would have kept people away for sure. Haven't heard what the numbers were. Have fixed the link to my albums on the post above. Minor glitch.
  22. Thanks Martin. Horatio, you were on the wrong Island! I hope you made the most of your extended stay in Wgtn. The Dominion Museum and its WW1 exhibition is a must, also Weta Workshop run tours of their facility, but you have to book in advance - that is, if you are interested in movie models and special effects.
  23. Thanks Ridge Runner - is that a GR.3 or earlier; it's proboscis isn't so pronounced...
  24. Hi Guys, last weekend was the Classic Fighters Airshow at Omaka, Blenheim, New Zealand. Despite the worst weather to hit New Zealand, swamping some towns under water, the airshow went ahead and was blessed with blue skies at times. The organisers were very lucky and its a credit to them and everyone involved that it went off as smoothly as it did. Here are a few images and a link to an album. Link to my Flickr album. https://flic.kr/s/aHskTnQduh Enjoy.
  25. Hi, Headintheclouds, not 100 percent sure, probably a hawk; it appeared quite suddenly, so I snapped away until I got something half decent. It's not real sharp as a result.
