  1. Well now, that could make it onto the Christmas list!
  2. So... It's been a while. I lost my modelling mojo there for a while, got distracted by some things, overwhelmed by others, but back now and enthusiastic to move this kite along. At this stage I'm just about ready for masking and paint. WNW Ships Camel by Martin Fay, on Flickr The approach I'm thinking of is Lower surfaces first: Shoot on light coat, mask ribs, mist on darker coat, mask in prep for upper surfaces. Upper surfaces next: Shoot on light PC10 coat, mask ribs, mist on darker PC10 coat Mask PC10 surfaces and shoot on the dark wood panels around the cockpit. Mask wood surfaces and finally shoot on Alu around the cowl. Then unmask everything and hope I haven't ruined it all. Maybe I'm overcomplicating it?
  3. Great Work on the Sea King, that livery looks great. Get some cork fillet into that floor gap. It'll be virtually invisible and is soft enough to still allow for expansion. No more 1/72 bear pit!
  4. I'm seriously impressed that you got that tail end looking realistic. Some quality plastic wrangling going on here!
  5. Wow, that's unrecognisable from the original kit. Chapeau!
  6. It's been a while but I finally managed to set aside some time for the Camel. Trial fitting the lower wings required lots of careful paint removal and fettling to get all the parts cleaned and aligned just right. I elected to glue them prior to painting to avoid any future issues with fit. I may regret the decision when it comes to masking the wood and alu finishes but think it's preferable to risking damaging the finish during assembly. 2018-12-30 16.37.51 by Martin Fay, on Flickr Primer tomorrow? Time will tell!
  7. Is this so that the cowl can be separated and removed to display the full engine?
  8. Edited: Just spotted the pre-order notice in the vendor area. Missed the R.E.8 the first time around.
  9. I admire both your attention to detail and your dexterity. Those calipers look better than the 1:1 versions!
  10. I had assumed it was a joke. I'll remain skeptical until it appears on the WNW official website.
  11. Judging purely from the results it was well worth the effort. Somehow I don't think 0.1mm PE would have looked as good in that application.
  12. Don't be silly. A Gotha engine would look ridiculous in this chassis! 😛
  13. That's a lovely piece of work, I can almost smell the Castrol-R. I had it's little brother way back when; a KH-250. Great engine, awkward triple points ignition and a frame made of noodles with a hinge in the middle. Sounded lovely though.
  14. Well I wasn't expecting that when I started reading. Great fun, well done.
  15. Right, this should give me enough space to add the wings. 2018-08-12 16.27.53 by Martin Fay, on Flickr One last shot before the engine plate and cockpit decking go on. I love being able to zoom in on these to see the detail. 2018-08-12 16.31.57 by Martin Fay, on Flickr
  16. Thanks. Buttoning up the fuselage feels like a major milestone. Cheers Calum. The interior of these kits is a real pleasure to work on. Feels tricky to put together at first but once you figure it out it feels like it practically snaps together.
  17. This is where I left it for tonight. I need to sort out a more appropriately sized stand to keep this safe in storage, otherwise that tailskid isn't going to last long. 2018-08-11-17.02.17 by Martin Fay, on Flickr
  18. Dry fit, dry fit and dry fit again; then glue! I feel like I spent most of the morning removing paint that I so carefully previously applied. There are two mistakes that I've spotted under magnification in the photo. 😖 2018-08-11-14.54 by Martin Fay, on Flickr
