Blackburn Roc Floatplane Target Tug

I can't make up my mind whether you're up early or late Martin! -
This is a fantastic build, puts me in mind of the custom bike scene. I hope you're enjoying building it as much as I'm enjoying following it.

The PC-10 is sorted, next to redo the CDL ribs on the underside. Some daylight pics since the sun was shining at lunch time. Camel-2 by Martin Fay, on Flickr Camel by Martin Fay, on Flickr Colours are: Fuselage: MRP PC-10 (late) Cockpit Wood: Tamiya XF-59 + Raw Umber oils Engine Cowl: Tamiya XF-82 Ocean Grey 2 I had to fight hard against my desire to paint the nose and cowl in a shiny aluminium but I reckon the dull pained grey is more likely for a ship based Camel.

Not an aircraft I'm at all familiar with but there's some very pretty lines there. Should be a stunner when it's finished!- 19 replies

Well this evening was a bit of a mixed bag. First up I decided to fettle a couple of the areas on the PC-10 that I wasn't happy with. I reckoned I could get away with doing this by brush to avoid masking. Apparently not! The MRP paint that went on so beautifully by airbrush was not so successful by brush and my gentle and careful strokes with a soft brush ended up removing the underlying airbrushed coat. Not a disaster by any means as I stopped immediately before any serious damage was done but I'll now have to wait for it to dry, carefully sand, mask and airbrush the areas affected. Lesson learned! 🤨 The second part of the evening was a tad more successful and the BR.1 is now assembled and painted. It'll need a wash and a little engine grime but otherwise it's finished and I'm pretty happy with it. I've also decided that the rib masking on the undersurfaces (post 31) was too wide so I'll repaint them. I could leave them as is but I'd probably regret not doing a more subtle job. 😖

Heinkel 111P-2, Airfix 1:72, plus some extras

I've found that a white undercoat makes a huge difference to red and yellow finishes. Might be worth a try. -

This would be the plus size Eindecker then? That greenhouse turned out very nicely, just right for a splash of colour. -

I'm still chipping away at this one. A few touch-ups and details to be taken care of before moving on to decals.

You could also check out cosmetic cases as these tend to be large and versatile. > For Example<

Would any of the modular HobbyZone units be suitable? They can be packed away in a cupboard when not in use. https://hobbyzone.pl Or try a fishing tackle shop for a carry around solution.

They're little stunners Ian. Simply beautiful! -
I forgot to mention, I used MRP paints sprayed straight from the bottle @ 17 PSI. This stuff goes on beautifully, really easy to achieve a nice smooth finish. Highly recommended!

We're off for a few days holidays tomorrow so this is probably my last progress report for a week or so. The PC-10 is on and I'm much happier with the upper surfaces than the lower surfaces. I shot on a mix of 80% PC-10 and 20% CDL, then masked the ribs with 1mm tape before shooting on a light coat of straight PC-10. I then removed the masking and misted on a patchy coat of PC-10. The result is much more satisfactory than the underside. The camera has exaggerated the effect as it's far more subtle to the naked eye in reality. There's also more brown in the PC-10 mix than shows in the photo. When I get back I'll tackle the wood around the cockpit. Shock revelation - you go through a LOT more paint and masking tape in 1/32 vs 1/72

I'm all caught up on this one now. Every time I read one of your threads I learn something new and useful Ian. Love the tip on masking the edges around the wings - wish I'd read that a few days ago. And you work with the .3mm tape is impressive - I've been struggling today doing a satisfactory job with 1mm. They look great so far - looking forward to the final innings! -
The DR.1 will be very welcome, I can see myself building a few of these, especially since the Werner Voss tripe is one of the options. There will probably be a Richthofen Aces boxing at some point in the future.

Thanks Mike. I'll take a look around and see what I can find. There's bound to be some surplus foam packaging around here somewhere.

Fill, sand, prime, fill, sand, prime and… paint. CDL shot on the lower surfaces and rib tapes masked Then a patchy darker coat... hopefully the weathering will tone down the contrast. It's been sealed with a coat of Mr Super Clear so I should be able to mask it and move to the upper surfaces tomorrow. In the meantime, this is my daughters P47 ThunderEgg? EggBolt? I dunno… 🤔 I envy her 6 year old eyes and steady hands; her gluing in neater than mine!
