  1. It comes as a flat decal, however the trick is to carefully cut between the white lines all the way into the spiral, that way it will conform to the cone. Very tricky to do, and you really need a sharp scalpel or knife.
  2. Whilst I'm waiting on more white arriving, I've made a start to the engines. Here's the inside of the engines all built up. The blades are so so fragile, and they do turn in the housing.
  3. So tried out the Zero Paints Gloss Black, I just couldn't get it to work, I tried everything high pressure, low pressure, you name it. I then went back to their Semi Gloss Black and it went without a hitch.. Some bits will need rubbed back a bit like the top of the doors but that's due to the original gloss black. I've had to strip the roof section as I didn't like the finish, but again that's due to the Gloss Black. Anyway here's the process I went through, first up some masking If I'm doing a colour on top of another colour, I always lay down a light coat of the first colour, this hopefully does away with any colour seepage. And all the masking tape off Anyway this it for now, thanks for looking Good afternoon folks, today I cracked on with clear coating the various panels. The panels have been painted in Zero Paints Rosso Corsa 300 & Gloss Black, then clear coated in Zero Paints 1k Pre-Mixed Clear Lacquer. I'm really chuffed with the results. I'm gonna give this a week or so then I'll colour sand it, compound polish it, then wax it. Anyway that's it for the moment, I hope you like it
  4. Bloody hell Jonathon that is some level of detail. Cheers mate. So if I am getting this correct the wings are white but a satin type finish. The colour I've got for the centre line is FS25550 which going by the various photos is close. I've hunted everywhere for the correct shade and somebody who actually makes it, but needle in a haystack comes to mind. This is it brush painted but you get the idea. It might be a bit blueish so I'm gonna do some spray outs with some white added. I ran out of white doing the fuselage so I've order a couple more pots of it.
  5. Cheers Buzz, yeh that's what I was saying earlier. I don't know either it's down to lighting or if the central colour has an effect, but I've seen some planes where it looks like there is a definite grey there, then I see others where you think nope it's definately white on the bottom portion. I think I'm just gonna go with the bottom portion being white, also it makes things a lot easier for me. Also I know the colour I have for the central stripe is not the exact match, but again it is in some pics but not in others.
  6. Cheers guys I'm going paint it all white with the stripe. Anyway on with the build, this thing is so hard to paint when it doesn't fit in the spray booth. After smoothing it all I then gave it several coats of grey primer followed by black primer, this shows that I have got the seams more or less spot on. After this had dried I laid down several coats of white primer After this had dried, my latest purchase turned up, some Mr Color Self Levelling Thinners. I've never used this, but I'm well pleased with the results. I mixed this in a roughly 60-40 mix with Tamiya Gloss White. That's it for the moment guys, I'll leave this dry now for a few days then it's onto the stripe.
  7. I'm trying to get the smoothest finish I can, and as Phil and Hans recently said it's all about the panel joins, these have got to be as smooth as I can get them. After the grey primer had dried I noticed some scratches from the sanding sticks. So out came the finer sanding sticks. As you can see the extent of the scratches, almost 90% of these were hidden by the grey primer. And after the finer sanding sticks. The plastic is quite soft, so it was easy enough to sort these out. Ignore the grey centre line, I painted the insides of the fuselage prior to joining them. So after I did one section, I decided I'd better go over the rest of the plane. Next up more grey primer.
  8. Cheers Ray that settles it, the only grey is on the wings. Thanks very much mate.
  9. On the other point I've already got the fan blades of and only slightly moving one loose. I put a layer of CA glue round the bottom and this sorted it. All I did was cut that section of sprue off, and layer them as flat as I could I then carefully trimmed them off using a very new and sharp scalpel blade.
  10. Cheers guys, the more I look at their aircraft the more I'm liking it and that's despite the nose lol. Chris the lower area is the one part I'm not to sure of like you said Ray has said it should be grey but I've seen photos of the A350 with a lower grey area, but I've also ones with the lower area in white. Is there anybody else that could shed some light on this.... Edit Yep I think the lower area is white, next question are the wings white or the light grey
  11. That's the first coat of grey primer on it, I've got a few places that will need some attention, but overall I'm quite pleased with the first pass of primer.
  12. Joel I only use my iPhone for the pics nothing fancy, although for my final reveal pics I do use my Nikon D5500 SLR. On the engine front I've only built up a couple of pieces so I'll need to have a look at that gap before I do any more painting. Glad you like the LaFerrari. Cheers
  13. Cheers Jeff, I quite like the nose, I've seen the A350 up close at a local airport when it came in for a flying visit. I'll find the photos and put them up. I've built up the fan blades and only managed to loosen one, a quick dab of car glue sorted that out. The colours I've listed above are the ones I'm using, although not exact they'll do for my purposes.
  14. Cheers guys. Joel compared to other airliner kits I've built this one is going together relatively easy so far. The only part that's required some major work is the cover that fits on the bottom of the aircraft that covers up the undercarriage carrier, it wasn't a great fit. I filled the gaps using a mixture I made up using Tamiya Extra Thin, and bits and pieces of plasticard. I also noticed that most of the panel lines on this model are quite faint. I was going to rescribe it, but I'm not bothering with that as on normal clean airliners you don't really see the panel lines as the are kept clean most of the time (unless your up close to it), and this being a new craft I'm going for the new clean and shiney look. I might scribe some of the lines on the wings and undercarriage doors but that's about it. This was meant to be a quickie build as I waited on bits and pieces of my LaFerrari build drying off. Have you got a wip up for yours.
  15. I couldn't resist putting it up on its stand. It's rather large.
  16. I agree mate, when you see it in person it's actually a lovely aircraft.
  17. And the gear doors, I think the plane is really designed to be displayed with the gears down. The fuselage gear doors fitted fine however as you see the wing gear doors sank in a bit. So as you see there is no support where the landing gear attaches. I then shimmed this section up with small pieces of plasticard to act as a support. The gear door then fitted fine, I'll smooth these off and rescribe them later. That's it for the moment as I can't sit to long with my knee and leg down. Oh how I hate the cold weather
  18. Next up was the under carriage panels on the front. This a novel one for me as I normally have the gear down. I've smoothed them over but I'll rescribe them later Then it was onto the large panel that covers the centre section underneath the plane. This section required a fair. It of fettling to get right Next up the gear bay doors
  19. Cheers mate. It was your Finnair build that I first noticed the gap where the wing pylons sit. How did you get round it. Another question did you put in the front windscreen prior to painting or did you leave it out until later. I've noticed that both fuselage sections fit together fine, but the section underneath at the undercarriage isn't that great a fit.
  20. I saw this method being used by Phil on his Dreamliner build. He used elastic bands but I only had the hair bands to hand, but they worked fine alone with the cocktail sticks. Both parts of the fuselage were then joined together. Again Revell as got their act together as both sections fitted together almost flawlessly. I then waited for the joint to dry, I then ran a seam of my TET mixture along the seem. I inserted the cockpit earlier, I decided not to go into detail with this part, as it won't really be seen, even though the cockpit windows will be left clear. Next up the paint arrived for the horizontal line and lower grey area. Now I know it's probably not a perfect match, but after some research and talking with other builders these colours were recommended.
  21. First off please excuse my lack knowledge when it comes to the names of things, I can get by but I'm no expert. So first up is the main under carriage housing. This will be hidden but I think it's a main structural point. The 3 parts that make it up. The 2 upper and lower section of one of the wings. I tend to cut the injection points quite a bit from the part, I'm trying to avoid any damage to the wing parts Sometimes these injection points need to be carefully sanded back, however sometimes just moving the injection point back and forward releases it from the part with almost no damage to the wing, and nothing a wee bit of sanding won't take care of. So using good old Tamiya Extra Thin both parts of the wings were joined and clamped. And offered up to the wing. Revell has knocked it out the park here. The wing fits perfectly and will required absolutely no filler or anything I noticed this on one of the wings, I haven't a clue what it is, although I've seen a fly on in a wing on another A350 build. It's not causing any problems so it will stay where it is. Next up the first and only problem I've come across so far. These pylons don't fit in the indentation. To overcome this I moved the pylon forward slightly by cutting the lip further back not ideal but it will do. That's it for the moment so again thanks for looking
  22. Cheers guys, much appreciated. So I've been busy with the LaFerrari over the last couple of days. First up was the white and black primer. Then it was onto the application of the Rosso Corsa 300 red from Zero Paints, I've still to mask and paint the black roof and other areas There's a tiny imperfection caused by my not so good bodywork skills, hopefully it will not be to noticeable once there's several coats of clear lacquer on it. Anyway next up is the black roof etc, and the decals. Thanks for looking and I hope you like the progress so far.
  23. Hi there folks I've built numerous airliners over the years some good and some bad ones. I was starting to loose my mojo a bit with them, so I moved over and started to build 1/12 bikes and 1/24 cars. So after much nagging from my son, I thought I'd get back into building aircraft again, which I'll build along side building the bikes and cars. I'm starting of with Revell''s Airbus A350-900. I've had this kit for a year now, but there has been very little in the way of decent decals so that was an other excuse not to build it. I'll be painting it up in the livery of Cathay Pacific, and the decals coming from Ray at 26decals. I have discussed with my son as to wither it's a wheels up or down, after much discussion I've managed to persuade him to go with the wheels up option, so no wheels to knock off. So enough of my wittering on, and here's the kit The instructions The kit decals most of which I'll not use, but I'll use some of them The Cathay Pacific Decals and instructions The kit sprues, not as much as you get in the bikes and cars The main fuselage, the detail and panel lines are very faint and light, but I'm not to bother by that, I might rescribe the wings but I'll leave the fuselage alone
  24. Hi there folks just finished this challenging build. The kit has some serious flaws when it comes to the fitment, if you look at my WIP you'll see what I mean. Anyway here's all the details Kit - Aoshima Lamborghini Aventador Roadster LP700-4 No. AOS-008669 Aftermarket Parts - DMC Body Kit from C1-Models, Hobby Design Full PE Kit, Hobby Design LP700-4 Kahn Santagata wheels, Hobby Design Metal Badge decal sheet. Paint Exterior - Zero Paints Bianco Canopus 2 Stage white, followed by several coats of Zero Paints 1K Pre-Mixed Clear Laquer. Interior and Engine - Mixture of Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics. That's all folks I hope you enjoy the photos. I like the reflection on the door I hope you like it and thanks for looking Cheers
