  1. A bit more dabbling with these, mainly adding the plate around the RIO’s boarding step for the B. Template Cut (0.25mm plastic card) Glued and sanded back a bit as was too proud. Primed! They’re now both fully primed and waiting for paint if I can decide what scheme to do them in as keep changing my mind from the original planned ones...
  2. After the mr surfacer was smoothed out and some areas corrected, they had a Stynylrez black primer coat. Not so much for black basing as these will be in ‘solid’ colour, more for helping as trying to paint grey on grey primer it’s hard to see the colour develop. Mig ammo for main colours - one painted like a jet. Blue grey over light ghost. Gunship collar. This will have some live ordnance brown and yellow bands added. The other one I’ve painted like a missile with the off white radome/head and grey body, but it also works as a dog, namely our schnauzer, Bert. He kinda looks like that. And has a blue collar... Next is to brush the details like eye mouth and teeth etc.
  3. RFI for the A done too. Cheers, Tony
  4. @tomfomes No Aim-54C for this jet mate. Those missiles were retired in 2004. This jet was on the last cruise 2005-2006. Hence the aim-7 sparrow adapter on the left glove vane pylon in your reference pic. When first painted this retro jet had a small colour insignia on the nose side in the normal place. This was during the work ups I believe. That didn’t last long, either on the cruise or just before deployment it had the stripe added and the large insignia over it to complete the retro look. I’d suggest gbu 12 or 16 paired with a gbu 38 on the front pallets. (Which are ghost grey with gull fairings) Also your brassin lantirn is incorrect. Think Eduard have one for the f-14 due for release soon if not already. Also for loads of pics just do a google image search of 164602 tomcat It’s what I do and then sometimes also shows how that particular airframe looked throughout its life with different squadrons Tony
  5. Hi mate, they are Quickboost resin pilots in seats as per the intro before the pictures. The helmets were hand painted due to the non availability of decals. It’s a suggestion of the helmet markings, much more simplified. Should be an ace of hearts playing card behind the flash. I tried painting a black rectangle too but couldn’t get it fine enough. So just left it at the flash. To make it easier I sprayed the helmets with gloss white lacquer to get a tough base coat. The red flashes were painted with a fine brush and ‘blue line’ hataka acrylic water based paint. Took several attempts but was easy to correct as the paint would just wipe off the gloss white, even when dry. I also then used a pin/blade to gently scrape and sharpen up the edges and corners of flashes to help define them a bit. Once happy they were then sealed with varnish and helmets given a wash. Took a while to get 4 good flashes... Tony
  6. Nice job mate. Would the ground underneath/behind it not be ploughed or churned up a bit from where it slid along? Fair enough there are some flattened stalks behind it but would it not do more damage?
  7. Nah it’s only about a dozen 😂 @Booty003 Reference your comment mate, this and the acad kit are two completely different beasts, both with their own quirks and flaws. The first page of the WIP has a run down of sorts about this GWH kit, good and bad with some comparisons to the acad & FM kit The acad one however, in general, is much more ‘shake and bake’ so to speak. To All, Thanks to for the great feedback, much appreciated. Tony O
  8. RFI for the D done Cheers, Tony
  9. Nice build and paint mate. Looks spot on, just enough to look interesting but not overdone. The only problem is that it isn’t from the best Guards Regiment... 🤔
  10. How wonderful 🤗 Some great ideas there 👌🏽
  11. ⬆️ Yep, you know the one I was getting at. 😂
  12. Or perhaps 1/1 scale beans on toast. With the tomato sauce to go over and inbetween the beans as a decal. Or fish and chips? or Spam and chips? Spam egg and chips? Spam spam egg and chips? Spam spam spam egg chips and spam...

    What Varnish

Well that’s like the old ‘how long is a piece of string’ question. (Twice from the middle to one of the ends) All depends on the needle/nozzle of the airbrush. I have sprayed galeria neat with a 0.3mm and was ok. I never really thin matt varnishes too much as you want them slightly rougher anyways, helps with the matt finish. I have found if you thin matt varnish like normal paint it goes on too smooth and then ends up satin or worse, glossy! Which kind of defeats the aim 😂
