SS Grenadier Officer, Third Battle of Kharkov, 1943 - 1/35 scale
combat replied to Eludia's topic in Figure Work In Progress
Great figure and diarama. I like to stick to 1/35 and the odd 1/16 WW2 figures, mostly US. I've recently started using almost exclusively acrylics as I like the fast drying times and the amount of control that you have with them. I may get to post something later in the year as I am not happy with what I have done recently. What are you planning next? -
As you can see the tracks were a freakin' nightmare for me anyway, I finally had to use a little putty to hide the little gaps - my first time with this type - live and learn. Made up all the sub assemblies before painting and I will give a shout out to this little stand from Mr Hobby, it costs about the price of a Revell 1/76 kit is really well made and super useful and adaptable - makes my life easier anyway

Hello there, this section isn't very big here on the forum, but I've got this project doodling along in the background. Picked up a HL no S or S 27Mhz Panzer IV and am doing a few modifications that some others may like to see. The pictures mostly speak for themselves, please comment or ask questions. It all starts with these and they just happen to fit perfectly inside the 8 screw sections that keep upper and lower hull together. Battery access will be by removing the upper hull. fire in the hole, lol adding a piece of steel coat hanger wire helps to centre the magnet keep checking for fit and make SURE the magnets are pulling each other and not pushing
-
The upper and lower hull are very nicely formed, but sometimes there are a lot of pieces, it's good experience but toward the end I felt like doing something a little simpler

Bullbasket, look forward to seeing them, the 'shading' looks rough but when it goes together it works well spraying Tamiya with 70 percent IPA or thereabouts I found the parts fit well, but you need to take care when cleaning parts not to take off details

PATTON GOES TO WAR (VIETNAM) - M48A3 1/35 TAMIYA
combat replied to FrancisGL's topic in Work in Progress - Armour
I like Tamiya builds, the instructions are clear, paint info is provided and the fit is usually quite reasonable. Anything green is always a good start -
Bullbasket, ah oui, it is indeed detailed, I didn't know they made good insulation though! Have you got a picture of your finished maquette? It's a lovely kit but a lot more effort in the build than I usually tackle. and do not fill your kits like this! Better to thin out the putty and keep it really tidy, pays off later on.

Doing the best you can with what you have and upgrade when you can.

Yep Hobby Boss got the shrink ray on Trumpeter's 1/16 T34/76 and in a few versions too. Here winter's bone and I am starting the year in green with this amazinginly detailed kit, with some truly small parts. My biggest gripe with the kit is despite the clear instructions and lovely painting guide sheet the instructions for painting details in and around the tank are too few. While the detail in these 1/48 kits is funtastic, I have to say I think I'm still more of a fan of vehicules in 1/76 and kits with figures and interiors in 1/35. Let's see if I can get this one to a decent standard.

Yep, lovely little boxes, amazing diarama bases, cool figures - so much to like. I am doing some 1/48 soviet armour which I will post soon, to be followed by a Dragon kit and then my first Miniart - after that I may get to do a full build thread on another Matchbox -
Stunning build, very inspiring, admire your patience and skills.

Yep but the Revell rebox decals are often in better condition. Maybe later in the year I will get the time to do another one of these. I have the whole collection except the Char 1 bis, which I really need to pick up soon. -
Tomathee great start in the AFV department. Following on from the advice given by other members about painting I would encourage you to invest in a good compressor and airbrush if you can afford (even a decent used unit). Don't be afraid to try different scales either. There are amazing kits here and there. I have a weakness for the old Matchbox / Revell in 1/76. My second bit of advice would be read and reread and readagain this book - The modellers guide superdetailing painting and weathering by Aleksandar Pocuc. It lays down all the basics and advanced techniques that form a perfect base and his impressive skill is such a motivation ! All the best with the rest of the build.

old thumper (your name sounds like a British Motorbike!) and a great choice of profile picture. I have found that the matchbox kits are simple but take a bit of work to go together well. You can squeeze a lot out of them if you really go for it. I actually find them easier than the 1/48 scale. Sometimes the 'tracks' themselves are in poor shape and need patching up. -

Hope all you BMers are having a good winter. My modelling room is just making 5 degrees C, so it's a little tough on the old fingers. Building up energy to start a new build thread. For now here are some classic Matchbox / Revell 1/76. There are 3 kinds of kits I really appreciate - with figures, with dioramas, with interiors. A lot of fun with these kits! -
Yes, I think the lines on this machine are iconic, somewhat like the early panzers, and open vehicules make great model kits, well done.
-
Cool, nice ally gun barrel, I'm glad you did this one. Love the lines on this machine. I had a turnaround and sold mine, I was peeved off that it came with no ammo and figures - I love figures with kits. A great bit of armour !

Or you could use these steel gears

A close up of the Remote version motors and for a price a TWO speed box is also available
-
so far I have found these different set ups from the remote control version - this is a nice setup 2 Tamiya full option Panther motors from germany I believe and could be rctank35
-
Hallo afv modellers and tankers I am going to be working on a vintage Tamiya Leopard 1/16 RC 1A4 with the single motor I wonder if anyone has advice about the best setup for running a dual motor system using HL motors or using 2 motors hitched to the gear box ? I am really interested if anyone else has rebuilt one of these and moved up to a dual motor system

My little hobby room has been close to 40 degrees c for most of the summer, so I just couldn't get in there - by contrast it goes down to zero in the winter finally got to just about wrap this Acav up, still needs some tidying here and there. Yes I agree with you the sandbags don't look heavy at all. They just look like someone dropped them there - not good. As for what's next. I think I promised myself to have a go at least once at the new Tamiya 1/48 scale, so that is going to do my eyes in for sure Hope that you enjoyed this first build for me here on the forum top is not glued so that I can look at my mistake work inside from time to time
