Hi, Can anyone help with a colour issue ? I am trying to confirm (as best is possible) what the colour was for G-EBDD , the markings supplied in the Roden kit. Roden have the colouring as steel grey, the box looks like silver dope, yet the only picture I can find of this aircraft looks as if the fuselage is maybe blue or red (old black and white image ) . I have found another image of a civil DH-9 (G-EBAX) and this too looks to be red/blue/green. Confused ? I know I am. Any help appreciated Jono

Hi Andrew , I have found one photo in an Osprey book entitled "Albatros aces of WW1" , the Wingnuts box art and instructions do differ and even when using the spacing on the instruction sheet it does not quite look right, but, saying that , it could easily be me not managing to measure it accurately enough. The original photo looks more like the box art but with less striping , maybe we all have it wrong !? Jono

Hi Andy The paintwork is masked although it has taken a couple of attempts to get it acceptable, to be fair I don't think the spacing is quite right but it will have to do ! Jono

Hi Guys, Must admit I started this ages ago, in fact, before the changes to the way this board looks ! but due to changes at work and a rather sudden house move , it had all come to a grinding halt.......that is until now, progress has been made !

Hi Nick this really will be an out of the box build using kit decals, its for the black and white stripped option in the box. Not sure how authentic the metal work for the fuel tank and ammo casings is, but, I have to be honest, I am quite happy how they have turned out so they can stay that way !

Hiya, for the wood I use the same method I always do, start with a fairly plain basecoat of sand or buff, and in this case tubed acrylic , raw umber I think, was loosely brushed over, oils would work better as they drying time gives you time to clean up mistakes and start again

I am sure people are getting tired of these by now ! but, as I had'nt done anything in ages I thought I'd make a start, all the usual phrases from all the previous builds apply, especially the ones about the fit being very tight in places !! thanks jono

Hi Carl The Felixstowe is Rodens 1/72 F2A late, its not the easiest of builds but providing everything goes together squarely you won't have a problem. The only real issue I had was with some of the struts being a bit fragile, these were replaced by brass Strutz with no problems. Hope your build goes well ! Jono

thought you might like a couple of pictures of part of the real thing and it can be built ! thanks jono

Hi guys finished this a while a go, its Eduards 1/72nd Dr1 with added etch from a previously screwed up Dr1 etched kit. The markings are Lothar Von Richthofen, brother to Manfred (the Red Baron) Thanks Jono

Hi Guys, Well after much putting to one side, I have finally finished my Williams Brothers Pitcairn Autogyro, all in all, good fun, fair bit of scratch building and plenty of "make it fit" moments, I quite enjoyed it really ! cheers Jono

Hi, I would'nt worry too much about the bottom wing fit as it really is just a matter of getting the front two mounts the right distance apart for the holes in the lower wing, use a tape measure, its the easiest way. The Roden kit should not be ruled out though, where it does seem to lack the finese of the Eduard kit, it does have the bonus of a beautiful engine and can be displayed cowl off. The Eduard kit is not hard to build but you do need to make sure the inards are in the right place for the fuselage to close up neatly. just bite the bullet and go for it ! jono

Hi Ian Firstly, welcome to the world of string and fabric ! The Fokker D.VII is a good place to start, not only does it have no real bracing wires , its a single bay biplane so no need to worry about endless struts to line up ! As for kits, go for the Eduard version, the non-weekend versions are complete in every sense of the word, lots of detail , lots of etch and lots of lozenge decal to complete the master piece. Its not a hard kit to build. This is not meant to sound like Roden bashing (i am a massive fan of them) but the eduard kit has greater detail, goes together easier, and has some quality decals. hope that helps ! jono

Hi Guys, Wondering if anyone can help, have just recieved via Squadron , my Williams Brothers Pitcairn Autogiro, a wonderful reboxing with two kits and lots of decals. The only problem I seem to have is trying to find any cockpit images of one of these craft. Can find lots of period photo's and fantastic images of Miss Champion, but alas, no interior images......can anyone help ? Cheers Jono

Hi Guys Thought I'd post some WIP pics of Rodens big Staaken. To say its been "ongoing" is an understatement, its become one of those models that I return to between other projects, and in all honesty, is going to take longer to build than the real thing was both built and in service for ! All comments, encouragement, invites to a mental institution gratefully recieved Jono
