  1. Just a quick question if I may to confirm my research. Can I build this Hunter as shown here from the new Airfix 1/48th scale kit directly or will I need to mod anything? I believe it was originally built as an F6 and subsequently modifed to an F6A/FGA9. I'm not bothered about the underwing pod as it wasn't always carried. Thanks in advance for any help given. 2. Morning Julian, Thank you. I used the paints suggested on the instructions from the Mr Color range. As there were no mixing ratios given I assumed they were 50/50 which worked up to a point but I thought the blue was still too 'bright' so added more white and the undersides were a little dark so again I added more white. I'm sure you could use other manufacturers too tho. There are loads of photos of the aircraft on line. If you choose to finish it in the dark blue scheme Mr Color do the colours as a set so there should be no mixing involved. Hope that helps.
  3. Not my usual choice of subject but I was attracted by the colour scheme. Built directly from the box except for the addition of the 4 whip aerials on the forward fuselage. A nice little kit all round really and something a little different. Fit of parts was pretty good but some location details were a little vague and some of the smaller parts needed tidying up. I may even be tempted at some stage to another one but in the (in my opinion) not so attractive Medium Blue and Dark blue scheme which is also provided in the kit. Thanks for looking and a Happy Christmas to you all. IMG_0106 IMG_0107 IMG_0108 IMG_0111 IMG_0110
  4. OK, thanks for that Selwyn. I shall get to it tomorrow. Much appreciated.
  5. Do you know, I knew they weren't really right...I assume they should be that buff sort of colour with a red band? Thanks for pointing it out. Will repaint immediately....
  6. Thanks for your comments Greg. The Mediterranean blue is my own mix (although I still think its a little dark?) It was based on Humbrol 48 with some 47 and white added. The Dark and Light Earth is your basic Xtracolor. Hope you get them soon.
  7. Latest project is this Airfix Blenheim I. Built straight from the box but using some of the parts not intended for the current release. (although they're in the box) Namely the bomb doors, bombs and racks and most importantly for this version, the Vokes filters. Decals are from an old Eagle Strike sheet originally intended for the Classic Airframes kit which probably explains why the large fin flash decal wasn't even close to fitting. This I sprayed on but I think I'd have done it that way anyway as it gives a better result. Anyway, thanks for looking as usual. B2[/url B1 B4 B5
  8. OK, that's good news then and it also means it has now gone to (nearly) my number one position of kits to buy next year. Thanks for all the advice...
  9. My latest project is this Special Hobby Vildebeest. I was initially drawn to the model by the excellent box art on the new release but after researching the somewhat controversial thoughts on the camouflage scheme (ie, whether it should be Brown and Green or Blue and Green and black underneath or sky etc, etc) I opted for a basic silver and grey one. Built pretty much straight from the box except for the modified rear gunners compartment to replace the (again, apparently?) incorrect scarf ring arrangement with the Fairey High Speed version. Too late now as I'm not changing it back! The rigging is rolled wire and the aerials on the top wing are Uschi thread. Although its a nice kit to build I found I had to shorten the cabane struts a little and I was disappointed to find the wheels and spats as one piece..(or rather two but with the wheels moulded on to them) There's also a very nasty sink mark on the tail wheel assembly. Also when I can get my steady hand back I'll edge the red on the spats with black..... Thanks for looking. IMG_0103 IMG_0105 IMG_0101 IMG_0102 IMG_0104
  10. Oh happy days! Had my first ever flight in 'JV' at Greenham Common in July 1974...Looking forward to the 26 decals too. Found this while looking on 'tinternet... Not my photo so credit to the original photographer. 👍
  11. Excellent!! Just got mine to the painting stage. Your's has given me a few ideas too....Thanks. I also had to reduce the cabane struts by about 2mm .. I bottled out on the camo scheme I was originally going to do as there are too many uncertainties with regard whether it should be Dk Earth and Dk Green or Dk Blue and Dk green.... I see you've kept the Scarf ring too instead of fitting the Fairy version..? Any particular reason?
  12. Ah, right.. Can someone refresh my memory then as to what will need to be done? Aren't the wings completely different or do I remember that Revells AEW wings were somewhat a bit of a hybrid? I know the nose is separate so does that mean all behind that is the same? There'll obviously be a plug of some kind for the tail wheel too then?
  13. Lets hope you're right then... Scalemates show the AEW 2 kit but with 'new parts'.....I think that's got to be an understatement...
  14. From what I understand ( and I hope I'm wrong) it will be the old Frog kit but with the addition of the Vipers for a Phase III aircraft..... Think you'll find the 'proper' price is £40 tho'?
  15. Thanks for that. Not knowing what the differences are could you enlighten me please? Much appreciated. Again, many thanks for that. It now makes it even more confusing.....You know how this hobby works, you finish it and even more evidence comes to light that it's wrong...whichever scheme you choose.... Again, thanks anyway for the input everyone.👍
  16. Really interested in building one of these and agree it's lovely art work but I was under the impression that Singapore Vildebeests were in the 'tropical' scheme of Dark Mediterranean Blue and Dark Green? Whats brought about this 'latest development in research'? I'd hate to paint it in the wrong colours..... I must admit tho' I prefer it as now shown in Dark Green and Dark Earth....Any help appreciated...
  17. I'm sure some will emerge soon but there was a decent build review in the last but one Airfix magazine.
  18. Vokes filters are included in the kit. Obviously for a later version. Which is handy as the one I want to do has them fitted.........
  19. OK, thanks for input. And, as Tbolt said easy enough to tweak the lettering. Took me all of about 2 minutes..
  20. Ah, right, interesting So how does Barracuda get away with putting it on his then? Yes, that's what I intend to do but just curious..
  21. Enjoying building mine at the moment but can anyone explain why the word DONLOR is written on the tyres and not DUNLOP? I assume it's an 'in joke' from Airfix? A bit like the morse code on the inside of the Wellington wings....Just curious....
  22. Thanks for all the info and particularly the thread on ARC (I didn't know about that one) I guess we'll all have to wait and see when the actual kit is released rather than basing thoughts and opinions on what are obviously pre production parts.
  23. Is it me or a trick of light or does something look distinctly 'odd' between the rear of the wings and the exhausts? Where the tail planes pivot. It looks far too 'rounded'?? It appears to curve out then back in again? It should be pretty straight along there if I'm correct? Really hope its a trick of the light..... And no, I didn't notice it a Telford at the weekend either...
