I have read that your musical tastes are pretty much programmed in during your teenage years so most of us probably have a generational bias as to what makes a great album.

That's my observation too when discussing music with friends of various ages, maybe extending that time band a few years either side of your teens.

I have a rather large CD collection and I'd say well over 80% of them were either released when I was aged between 10 and 25 (I'm 48 now), or more recent releases by bands who started out in my personal 'golden era'.

  2. New Model Army - Thunder and Consolation

    Metallica - Master of Puppets

Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine

    Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger

The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation

    Depeche Mode - Violator

Faith No More - The Real Thing

No prizes for guessing which decade I was born in 😁

I'd suggest keeping an eye on Plaza Japan. i got mine from there and quite reasonably priced. It's Out of stock at the moment but you can register interest.

I placed a large order from Plaza Japan last month, it's amazing how much cheaper Tamiya and Hasegawa kits are there, generally less than half price even after adding VAT, one of the ones I ordered was less than a third of the UK price, delivery isn't cheap of course so only viable if you make a large order.

Oddly the same price differential doesn't apply to all Japanese brands, Fine Molds kits were closer to 30% cheaper than the UK price.

  4. Looking forward to this one, I've always liked the LanceR, especially in this scheme and the Eduard MiG-21 really is an excellent kit.

I was planning to build my LanceR last year but my resin set is incomplete, it's missing the chaff/flare dispensers. The lesson there is to check as soon as you receive the item, not waiting until you're actually ready to use it 2  years later.

  5. Beer: I discovered wheat beer a few years ago, my favourites are Erdinger Urweisse and Erdinger Pikantus

Spirts:  Penderyn, Remy Martin VSOP, Maraska Sljivovica (Croatian plum brandy)

Cocktails: only ever found one I really like, mojitos. Lovely when sitting outside on a warm summers evening.

I've also experimented with home made liqueurs (very easy to make, most of them are just fruit, sugar and alcohol), the two which turned out the best were damson vodka and pear brandy.

CH53D and colin may be  disappointed to hear, that while tea is still popular. Everyone does coffee in both Britain and Ireland.

Everyone except me it seems, I can't stand the stuff.

Remember in the 70s in packet curries they always used to insist on putting bloody sultanas in.. I thought it was a disgusting idea, and always laboriously picked them out before eating the rest..

You wouldn't like one of my curries then, I always add sultanas.

I know I'm probably in the minority but I like the combination of sweet and spicy in the same dish, seems to be quite popular in North African and Middle Eastern food.

  8. Hi

I have a couple of questions about the two tone blue scheme on this aircraft.

    • Images online range from a relatively bright blue for the main colour to more of a blue/grey shade. Is this just the effect of lighting or has there actually been more than one version of the scheme using different shades of blue? The images below are two of the more extreme examples of the variance I'm seeing, the majority of images are neither as grey as the first one or as bright as the second one.
    • Does anyone happen to know the RAL/FS/BS codes for the two colours?

  9. As we're on the subject, does anyone else mop up the bacon fat from the grill pan with a slide of bread?

Only works with decent quality dry cured bacon though, the fat from cheap bacon is far less appealing.

  10. Mustard??? That's depraved.

If I'm having a single bacon sandwich I have brown sauce, if I'm having two sandwiches it's brown sauce on one, tomato sauce on the other. A bacon & egg sandwich is always tomato.

Same rules apply for a sausage sandwich.

Thanks Colin. I am an IWM Member and visit several times a year, but this time I noticed tha there had been quite a few changes in the hangars.

There's some changes since I last visited in September, the Victor was all on it's lonesome then. I don't recall seeing the pink Spit at all.

PS But how did Newcastle United some to be pronounced Toon?

Toon is the geordie pronuncation of town.

It's a quirk or British cities that the locals often refer to their city centre as 'town'. My theory as to why the geordie version became the nickname of Newcastle United is it's down to the location of the ground. Compared to other big city clubs, St James' Park is unusually close to the historic centre of the city, so any locals attending a home game would have been 'going into town' in order to reach the ground.

That and Brits calling their mum "mom".  It's an Americanism, and they're entitled to it, but it's an affectation in the UK. :frantic:

Mom is used here in Brum and the Black Country too. Like other elements of the Black Country dialect, it's probably a remnant of a middle English pronunciation which fell out of use in the rest of the UK.

Could plastic spoons also have been made from recyclable plastic?  My understanding of which plastics are and aren't recyclable are fuzzy, as a lot of what's deemed recyclable is coloured by what we can put in our bins.  We're told not to recyclable the likes of plastic bags and packaging, but we can take them to the nearest super market.  Off-topic, but we also used to be able to put a lot more metals and devices in our bin than we can now.  I suspect that's down to what they have contracts for. :hmmm:

I'd have thought it would be possible to make them from recyclable plastic but I'm pretty sure the ones sold generally aren't, presumably for cost reasons but I'm not an expert on the subject.

The rules around what you can recycle vary from one area to the next which doesn't help with the confusion. I moved house twice in the space of 9 months in 2017/18 living in 3 different council areas, each council had different rules around what exactly could and couldn't be recycled.

Which probably makes them unrecyclable.

Depending what the glossy coating is made from they may be biodegradable though, plastic spoons definitely aren't
