Airfix 1/72 F5A Freedom Fighter IIAF

Very nice. Seeing lot of 'wheels up' builds lately, I'm gonna have to try that. -
Here's my effort at the 1/72 Airfix new tool BP Defiant. Built out the box except some PE seat belts added. Used Humbrol Acrylic 33 out of a rattle can. Maybe gone a bit OTT with the weathering! Think the wheels do look a little small, should have maybe used those resin upgrades that are available.

Airfix 1/72 Boulton Paul Defiant

Wow! Very neat. -
Here's my attempt at SH's Skua in 1/72nd. I haven't finished a build for 20 years (not counting wargaming models). It went together well, I have learnt a lot since coming back to the hobby last year or so. Its by no means as perfect as I'd like it to be but I'm impatient to get some kits done! Colours are Vallejo, except Dark Sea green was Xtracrylix, but I had some trouble airbrushing that, Vallejo were perfect straight out of the tin. The scheme is a complete mess-up as I went off two of the drawings, and also got the colours the wrong way round! But just carried on regardless, used it as a practice build! Ariel wire is stretchy USCHI stuff, 0.001 OD, easy to use. New Airfix 1/72nd Defiant to come soon.

Jaime, can you not just pretend this is a 1/48th scale kit, use a bit of photo-shop to make items smaller for scale? give us 48th scale modellers a bit of hope ? Nice work. Davey

Achtung...Skua! Special Hobby Blackburn Skua 1:72
DaveyGair replied to Vulcanicity's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Very nice. Mine's on the way to being finished and soon to be presented here. Agree it was a very good fitting kit with very little filler applied, any bad joins were down to me.- 25 replies

Ozzy. Like the randomness of her winter coat. -
Coming along nicely Alistair. Just got little bits and bobs to finish on a couple of other projects, and I'll be playind catch-up with my build.

JU-88 C-6 with rockets!
DaveyGair replied to DaveyGair's topic in Junkers JU 88 Single Type Group Build
Yeah, thanks Rich. These are the only photo's I can find of this particular aircraft (in it's C-6 guise). The thing is, the markings look to have been applied over the winter camo scheme, unlike the rough finish applied around the markings on the instruction sheet. I'm just gonna follow the sheet on this one so a lot more of the original scheme shows through. -
JU-88 C-6 with rockets!
DaveyGair replied to DaveyGair's topic in Junkers JU 88 Single Type Group Build
Just wondering what people think, would the white-wash have been applied with a big brush or mop's, rather than sprayed? Just thinking ahead. The drawing supplied looks like it suggest's this was the case? -

They're good little kits, good value for wargaming. Here's a couple I did for just that purpose, a bit of inspiration -
JU-88 C-6 with rockets!
DaveyGair replied to DaveyGair's topic in Junkers JU 88 Single Type Group Build
Starting to look like an aircraft now. Got the wings and tail-planes on, bit of scraping and fettling to get them somewhere near a good fit. Maybe a small amount of filler here and there, but good enough for me. The engine necelle's are just a push fit at the moment, have to install the under-cart yet. They seem a very good fit compared to some parts of the build. Word of warning if you build this kit, the instructions tell you to open the two holes for the small aerial's under the starboard wing, should be the port wing according the photo's I've seen (yes, I do sometimes check references occasionally!) -
Didn't know you could an outer and inner mask set, bit too much of a faff for me I think, looks well fitting though.

JU-88 C-6 with rockets!
DaveyGair replied to DaveyGair's topic in Junkers JU 88 Single Type Group Build
For the fuselage I just cut the locating pins off, still managed to create steps along the length in places though, bit of filling and sanding, will have to do some re-scribing, something I haven't done before ( I've bought a Tamiya scribing tool, not sure how to scribe a straight line around a curved fuselage though!) -
Looks impressive so far Alistair mate, been messing with the wings and engines on mine, needs some careful assembly.

Ozzy, that looks suitably menacing as only some WW2 Luftwaffe types can. I like it..... I like it a lot -

We'll see what the boss wants to do this weekend, but I did mention it. I haven't been to a model show for donkey's years and used to be a member of IPMS Tyneside in the 80's. -

Hah! Alistair, I can manage to get into sticky and gappy traps ALL by myself! Anyway, last job before bedtime last night was to assemble the fuselage. Not too bad, the starboard side ended up fine, port side a bit out, my fault probably. The rear halves were a pain to line up, did it bit by bit with Tamiya thin liquid cement. Its quite enlightening seeing your own assembly work in close-up.
