  1. Thanks for the tips. I did lots of light lines, but I was using a thin craft knife. There weren't any existing grooves, in fact the lines if they were there were raised. This mould is pretty rubbish. If I ever need to scribe lines again, I'll get a scribing tool and go easy on it. I'm using this model as a practice build and for painting. I want to try brush painting and get a good finish. I've watched a YouTube series on brush painting, and want to try out those techniques. I've got a Tomahawk as my next build, and want to do a good job on it.
  2. The model had next to no panel lines, so I wanted to try etching them. I'm not sure I've done that great a job of it, certainly not up to Aston Martin levels of scrutineering I also opened up the bonnet scoop. Here's some before and afters... p.s. the black paint round the front was due to me starting to get ahead of myself and apply paint
  3. I've put them on Flickr now, so hopefully they're visible?
  4. Ah ok. I'm using google photos. I wasn't sure if they'd share. I'll upload them to flickr and repost. Thanks for letting me know, as I was about to post more.

    Painting by hand

I'm just getting back into the hobby, and plan to brush paint. I was reluctant about it, and had looked into getting an airbrush. But I don't want to invest in one just yet. I watched this series on brush painting, and it's encouraged me that good results can be achieved. I've got 2 models in the queue to practice on.
  6. I've not built a model for quite some time, and had this Airfix kit lying around, so I thought I'll use it to get back into things. It came with paints, and I think it was a gift. It's a pretty rough looking model though, but it'll do for some practice. I'm not expecting great results, but it's lockdown on a Sunday afternoon, so needs must.
  7. Well, I did some of the cockpit to get started. I thought I was doing ok with painting detail on the cockpit, but now that I see the photos, my dodgy eyesight is letting me down. Might need to invest in some sort of magnifier if I'm doing this in the future. But it'll be hardly visible anyway, and was really just a practice with the painting. I would like to ask some advice on painting though. I'm using Acrylic, and thinned the paint using acrylic thinners at around a 6:1 ratio to start with. It seemed a bit thick still so I added some more thinner. but as you can see in the shots below, the coverage isn't great. Any advice? I was trying to not load up the brush as I didn't want it to pool in areas, but should I be using more paint? I also went over areas in a couple of passes, but should I just do one pass then let it dry before doing another? I'm not too bothered about this part as it's internal, but I want to do a decent job of the exterior when I get to it.
  8. I bought this kit quite a while ago, but never got round to building it. But I thought I'd make a start on it. I consider this the first kit I've built since I was a kid. I did build a Red Arrows Gnat about 2 years ago, but just did it very quickly for something to do, and it didn't turn out all that good. I'm planning on taking a bit more care with this one, and trying to do a decent job with the paint. I'm a big fan of the Blackhawk's, and have been working on adding one to the flight sim Enemy Engaged for quite some time. So I know it quite well by now. I'm not sure how much time I'll have to work on it, but I try and post updates when I do.
  9. This is looking great, I'm looking forward to seeing it finished.
  10. So, yeah, fancy decals 😄 I see they just add details. I would like to see the progress of the pe parts as you add more and paint then. I'm probably going to build this same kit next.
  11. They look good, especially the cockpit. I'm knew to modelling, what do you do with pe sheets? Are they just like fancy decals?
  12. I'm about to start building the 1/72 kit. But I think I'm going to use it as a build and paint practice. Then get the 1/48 kit to do a more detailed build. If I had the space, I'd like the 1/35 kit, but maybe I'll get that once my skills are up to it.
