Finding it difficult to track down a 1/48 A-4B Skyhawk.
fubar57 replied to DrumBum's topic in Aircraft Cold War
I built the Hobbycraft 1:48 A-4B. Break out your favourite mud, you'll need it......lots of it!!!!! -
This is from "Westland Whirlwind" 4+ Publications..."...By incorporating Mod. No.154 provision was made for carrying a total of 500lb or 1000lb bombload under the outer planes. A Mk.III Universal bomb carrier with side stays could be attached to the mounting cradle under the wing main spar wing joints. Either a pair of 250lb GP or SAP bombs, or 500lb GP, MC or SAP bombs or Small Bomb Containers (SBCs) with up to 250lb bombload could be carried...". Hope this helps somewhat Jerry. George

Good stuff for a 4th and lots of good info to sort through. I'm building its bigger brothers at the moment and the topside roundels are a struggle as well. I started with Mr. Mark Setter & Softer and have since started to apply the artillery....Polly Scale Softener. This stuff is so old that it doesn't show up in Google Images for me. The only thing I can add is, for a more realistic antenna, get this.... https://www.uschivdr.com/products-in-detail/rigging/ A very small dab of CA where you want to place it and it will stick like a frightened limpet to a rock plus its very stretchy

Just my .02ยข.....you could file/sand down the existing fences or, if you have any P.E. frames left over, use the fences as a template

Hard to find a photo online that isn't from a model: Spitfire... https://thumbs.worthpoint.com/zoom/images2/360/0914/28/ww2-raf-spitfire-pitot-head_360_8b8186ad741feddc8193ebba54a6caa8.jpg

Just me but I've read that they were heated so I paint my tips with Tamiya Dark Iron or Gunze Burnt Iron
-
Looks great

I'm not saying its the be all end all but it works for me. Many, many people struggle with and hate Vallejo paints but I love them. Their early colours were questionable but seem to be better now and I really like their metallics
-
Looking good. How long do you let the Vallejo set before masking? I always wait a minimum of 24 hours and rarely get paint lift. I just masked the entire length of a 1:48 Spitfire that was sprayed with Vallejo White primer. Tamiya tape was clean when it came off. I've done about five 1:48 models with Vallejo paint and maybe had about 42mm of paint lift in total. Most of this was on one model where I rushed taking the masking off. This is less than I get with Tamiya. Vallejo is more fragile than most acrylics, I'll give you that

Have you tried contacting Hobbyboss about the missing parts?. Many companies will accommodate you even if you lost or broke pieces......perhaps for a small cost

Looks great. I built one years ago as well and seem to recall, in the end, that it was more 3M Bondoยฉ than plastic

I have the "Gear Up" book but unfortunately no way to post info in a PM here

From "Republic P-47 Thunderbolt-The Final Chapter-Latin American Air Forces Service" by Dan Hagedorn. In the sub chapter titled AIRCRAFT OF THE ITALIAN CAMPAIGN, "....With the initial exception of the Commanders and Operations Officers aircraft, which were natural metal, all unit aircraft were standard USAAF Olive Drab over Grey...."

Good start. I built the Mk.I and also used the P.E. rigging which I struggled with. They appeared to be a tad long and after a few failed attempts I tried something different. I cut off the lower mounting tabs. I then glued the rigging to the upper wing and when dry, I dabbed a bit of C.A. on the lower end of the rigging and just let it sit on the lower wing

Very nice. -
I like that a lot!!!
-
Looks very nice despite your problems with paint. I haven't had problems with Vallejo Metal and as Lewis says, shake the bejaysus outta the bottle As with their primer, I shake the bottles for a very long time, hours sometimes. Over-kill maybe but as mentioned, I haven't had problems........yet. I've only clear-coated with Future

I also clipped off the two attachment guides at the bottom of the fuel tank / front screen base piece. Agree about the I.P.. -

Check your dates. My early version more than likely had silver or black seats. -
