  1. How did you find the AML masks? I just used them on a 1/48 Defiant and found the masks around the fuselage to be quite fiddly. They also wouldn't fit into panel lines or around bumps
  2. Very nice. I'm just about finished one representing the Bluenose Squadron
  3. Very nice. That's exactly (kinda, sorta) more or less how I plan to do mine. Canned of worms be damned
  4. Thank you. This is my first photo post. Not sure what went wrong but the pics should have been 800x500ish
  5. No.2(Army Cooperation) Squadron, KO•I, s/n N1572. Only one was trialled and rejected. A very nice kit though I had a few problems due to the very tight fit of some of the parts. I used the AML Camouflage Masks for the sole reason that I've seen them around but have never seen them in use. They sat very well on the flat surfaces but I had a bear of a time to get the multi-piece masks to fit around the fuselage. They also wouldn't settle into panel lines or around protrusions. To avoid bleed under, I mixed the paints 50/50, turned the air pressure down to about 15psi and shot away from the mask edges and then filled in the centers. I also used Eduards mask for the canopy and turret, well worth the money spent. There was an oddity here, all the masks were 2-3 piece affairs. Colors used were Vallejo Model Color for the Sky undersurface, Tamiya RAF Green and Gunze for the Dark Earth.
  6. First Hurricanes to Russia...http://lend-lease.airforce.ru/english/articles/sheppard/hurricanes/index.htm
  7. Never mentioned upper wing stars on #60. The photo dated 21 March 1942 is from "Soviet Hurricane Aces of World War 2", given as a time reference only regarding upper wing stars
  8. Good choice. I've got the book called "Hurricane in Foreign Service" and it gives the name of the pilot as Nikolay A. Bielicki at the time of the shoot down. A photo of a Hurricane. dated 21 March, 1942 shows the upper wing roundel painted out and no star
  9. Really nice Karl. The RCAF has some of the greatest paint schemes
  10. Beauty, especially the RCN kite
  11. Do a test drive free handing with an airbrush using the inside of a wing half of your next build. I've only been airbrushing for less than 2 years and just did my first free hand mottles on a 1:48 Macchi C.205. I use an Aztek a470 AB with the Tan nozzle, air pressure about 15psi, paint thinned about 50/50 but I've seen others do 30/70 and spray about ½" - ¾" from the model. As they always say. practice practice practice. Any left over paint I have in the AB is used for practicing mottles and fine panel lines. Looking forward to see your finished model http://imodeler.com/2018/03/italeri-148-macchi-c-205/
  12. I just started using Vallejo White Surface Primer and it sure makes a difference when spraying those hard to do colours; white, red yellow etc. I found if you follow the instructions very closely you will not have any problems. I let the primer "cure" for a good 12 hours before sanding, masking or over painting. The waiting to paint part is a little extreme but I'm in no rush. I cover the primer with Tamiya, Gunze Sangyo Aqueous and Vallejo Model Air without a problem
  13. Chances are, if the models are old (how old?) the original paint may have faded and you won't get a match even if you found the correct paint. I have stripped and repainted five 1/48 models for the sole reason of finding different markings
  14. Very nice. I'm still trying to figure out Tamiya mixtures for RLM colours. Yours looks bang on. Would you mind telling me your mixes?
  15. Greetings from the correct side of Canada, the western side of the Rockies
