  1. I believe the pilot was used for taxiing the aircraft into take-off position and then he got out. He would probably have to monitor the aircraft until then
  2. Resin parts look great. I wish I had them when I was doing mine. I had to reshape the area in front of the exhausts to represent my early MiG-3. Here's how it looks in the kit How it's supposed to look ....and before I fine tuned and faired it in, Not perfect but better
  3. Looking forward to this to see how you tackle it. I had the late and early versions and both had the same issues, mostly the inserts and cockpit floor. The radio shelf behind the seat is a bit vague with location so I hope this helps. If you want to see how I put mine together I can send you links
  4. This aircraft has been modelled and painted many times before based on a story that someone knows someone who's friend saw a photo it. It's the one that has a (take your pick), yellow, white or NMF cowling, same colour panels under the exhausts and yellow or white fuselage band and fin top. Decal makers and profilers have all gone with this Based on how the photo was described, I believe I found not one but two photos of the aircraft. I'll post only one as I found it on the web without a photo credit. The other is in a Japanese book and I don't have permission. This is my take on the legend, right or wrong. The front of the is NMF but only on a panel the starts at the 9 o'clock position and ends at the 2:30 position. The panels under the exhausts are discoloured from the exhausts based on studying other aircraft and not paint. I can make out no fuselage stripe or fin top colours on either photo. What other builders have missed, is what looks like a NMF replacement right wing tip. I have seen three different tail codes and I chose one, "∃D-151" of the 302nd Kaigun Kokutai based on the sole choice of that's what I could cobble together. I used the appropriate Tamiya paints and the kits bullet proof decals. Right or wrong, I hope you like it.
  5. If your kit is an A6M5, you could always do a surrender aircraft, white with green crosses. I painted the crosses My collection of "captured" Zeros
  6. I use Uschi van der Rosten. Very stretchy and sticks almost immediately to a small dab of CA
  7. Back in the last century, '84 it was, I was fighting a forest fire on the B.C. coast. The Mars came in and dropped its load. The sight was awesome to say the least
  8. This also has something to do with imaging software....http://vector-conversions.com/vectorizing/raster_vs_vector.html
  9. Kinzey did say "....approximately F.S. 34258." which is lighter than interior green
  10. Very nice. I have the old (shudder) Hobbycraft kit at the very bottom of the todo pile. For small dots I use a push tack, dot...reload....another dot....reload
  11. Also here... http://www.primeportal.net/hangar/howard_mason/f-101b_59-0400/index.php?Page=1
  12. In "The F-101 Voodoo in Detail & Scale" by Bert Kinzey, it says, "....Note: On all F-101B aircraft that we have seen, the interiors of the wheel wells were painted green ( approximately F.S. 34258)". I'll go through some other books just to be sure
  13. Thank you. Very hard to come by in Canada and when I do find a source it costs a fortune for shipping
