  1. The s&m decals are 'pretty close' to what I am looking for. I think the aircraft we flew in are the earlier scheme. ie excelairways.com. hope you know which I mean. Would add a pic but struggling with the format.
  2. Hi Folks, Does anyone know if there has ever been a decal set for Excel Airways, the now defunct carrier, either in 1/144 or otherwise. We have flown with them on numerous occasions and I would like to be able to make a model of one of their 767's or 757's. Regards WEEMAN
  3. Hi John, You are a star. I know the pic isn't G-ADZO, but it looks damn near enough for me. I am going to adopt the scheme you have suggested , but I think I'll go for un-outlined wing registration. This has GOT to be my final decision otherwise I will still be pondering about it next year. I greatly appreciate all the help you have given me, and hope to keep in contact. If you come across any more info on G-ADZO, please let me know. Best Regards Andy
  4. Hi John, The only picture I could find is the on in the link below. I have got other pictures of Amy and G-ADZO but it is in a crowd setting and you can't really tell the colouring. I have found some more references to G-ADZO in the National Archives, but I guess it will be quite pricy to obtain copies. I could always go to London and chec for myself, but it will still cost quite a bit. Then again, I would think they will be monochrome. However, back to artist licence I guess. http://www.aeroflight.co.uk/civil/amy.htm Best Regards Andy
  5. Hi John Aero, Thanks for the post. I know what you mean about 'dinky' toys. They tended to use a lot of 'artistical licence' for advertising and selling. However, the version I have seen on e-bay had a pale blue fuselage and silver wings. I'd like to think that was the genuine colour scheme, although without colour photo proof I cannot be certain. I don't think I am ever going to find out the true colours. I guess I will have to use a bit of ' artistical licence' myself !!! Best Regards Andy
  6. Hi Blimp, Thanks for your reply. I've had a look at this site before. Plenty of Jean Batten but not much Amy Johnson I'm afraid. Still, I greatly appreciate your contact Best Regards Andy
  7. Hi DCRanger, Thanks for your response. You have thrown another 'spanner' in the works. Now I am totally confused. I wonder where 'dinky' got their info. As I said in my first posting, I found a pic of the same 'toy' (!) painted overall yellow. Where do I go from here is the question. Regards Andy
  8. Hi John Aero, Nice to hear from you again. Thanks for the response. I thought it looked overall silve as well. The only doubt I had was the wing colour. The 'thirties' really was really not very well documented. I can find plenty of info on 'Jason' etc, but everything else is obscure. Still, if there is no info, I cannot be proved wrong, can I !!! Best Regards Andy
  9. Hi fellow modellers, It's the 'wee man' back on the Amy Johnson kick. Don't think I have asked this before, but does anyone know the colour scheme of Amy's Percival Gull 6 (G-ADZO) that she flew to Capetown. The only image I can find is a B&W one, and the colour looks all over silver or aluminium with black registration. I have seen a 'dinky toy' of this aircraft which is overall yellow, but I wouldn't think that is correct. I have searched the web without success. I'm afraid the 'thirties' doesn't appear to have been documenter very well. I have my information and kit bits to start building, but without the colour info I will be guessing. So, it's over to you in the hope that someone may have some obscure documentation that will reveal all. Regards Andy
  10. Hi Adrian, Thanks for your reply. Had a look at aeroclub website. Not too sure about the sizes though (ie ; 2mm/4mm). I put the question to aeroclub and they said they should be suitable for 1/72 scale but could not be specific as aircraft registrations varied. Do you know anyone who has tried these decals. Not sure whether 2mm means height, width or what? I suppose the onlt way is to get a selection of each size as they are relatively cheap Regards Andy
  11. Hi, Does anyone know where I can source 1/72 decals for civil light aircraft registration letters and numbers. The only ones I seem to be able to find are for airliners which are too big. the 1930's is the era required, but I guess there is not a lot of difference between those and modern registrations. Decals of different colours would also be welcome, although painting over them would be possible. I would be grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction. HAPPY NEW YEAR MODELLING EVERYONE Regards WEEMAN
  12. Hi John, Just to let you know, I received the kit yesterday. Absolutely Superb. Many Thanks Best Regards Andy
  13. Hi John, Thanks for the reply and the information. I sent an email to Shell regarding the registration letters, but haven't had a reply yet. Yet to find a source for the decals. I feel like I'm gradually getting there. Can't wait to start cutting plastic. Regards Andy
  14. Hi John, Here we go again. Hope you are fit and well now. I had an amail from the dh moth club with the following comments The aircraft was purchased new direct from de Havilland for her attempt on the Cape record. It had an uprated engine. David Luff says the aircraft was 'silver-grey' and that the registration letters were a 'stark, bottle green colour'. It sounds very near the mark and ties in with your comments regarding castrol colours. Also, 'Jason' had a bottle green fuselage, so I think we are getting warm !!!!. The only problem now is sourcing bottle green registration decals, or over-painting some suitable ones. I rang Peter yesterday and arranged shipping and payment - Thankyou. Best Regards Andy
  15. Hi AMB, Thanks for the reply. I must admit it would be a bit of a task to make a puss moth from a rwd-13, although they are dimensionally very similar. However, I quite agree that the Omega kits are Extremely expensive, and I am not a great fan of resin kits. Brought up with plastic kits too long I guess ! I will 'plough on' but I know who to contact if I need help. Thanks once again. Best Regards Andy
  16. Hi, It's the 'weeman' back to haunt you !!!!. I am sure you know about my need for a kit to model Amy Johnson's DH80 puss moth G-ACAB. Well, the poser I am asking is - what where/are the colours of the registration letters and the 'desert cloud' inscription. I am pretty certain that the airframe colour was overall silver. However, looking at B+W photos, the 'desert cloud' inscription looks darker. I am nearly at my 'wits end' with this one. I just cannot find the answer. I just hope that somebody out the will come up with some idea that I have not checked out. Sorry to 'bore' you all with this, but as Magnus Magnusson said 'I've started, so I'll finish' Regards weeman
  17. John, Well, words fail me. There is a God after all. That looks just the ticket for me. I would dearly love to have it. Let me know what arrangements you wish to make regarding payment, p+p etc. You are an Absolute Gent !!!! I kept reading articles about how friendly and helpful modelling clubs and websites were and I thought 'Yeah, Right !!!!. You and the other members I have had contact with have changed my opinion. Looking forward to hearing from you again. Regards Andy
  18. Hi John, Thanks for replying yet again. You guys out there must be sick of seeing my comments !!!!. Hey, anything anyone can suggest or supply on this subject is Absolutely Fantastic. I don't want something for nothing. Researching and providing kit parts costs money. I want to pay my way. I cannot thank you and Britmodeller members enough. I look forward to hearing what you can find. Even a tail skid would be great. Regards Andy
  19. Hi Dave, Thanks for the reply. You are probably correct about the postcard image. But looking at black and white images of 'Desert Cloud' the inscription is a lot darker than the registration letters. When I saw the card colours, It seemed to verify what I thought was red. The main problem here is the total lack of colour photos from the '30s'. I'm sure someone must have had a Fuji digi camera somewhere !!!!!. Ah well, trust me to pick a difficult subject. Onwards and Upwards - Hopefully. Regards Andy
  20. Hi NZKIWI, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I am sure there has been various vac-form kits of the puss-moth in various guises over the years. Doesn't seem to be any now. Not to worry. I'll get there somehow. Best Regards weeman
  21. Hi John, Thanks for your comments. My first thoughts on this subject were to try and utilise a Tiger Moth kit fuselage. That's where the dh80 reference comes from. However, looking at drawings and dimensions for the dh80 and the rwd-13, I think there may be some mileage in trying 'cobble' something up, utilising dh82 kit parts as well. It's a daunting task, but I am sure it is not insurmountable. Maybe I should have gone for the Omega dh80, but the price is high and I am not a lover of resin kits. Regards weeman
  22. Hi Marty, Thanks for your kind reply. Just to let you know, I have recently obtained a whirlybirds kit conversion for 'black magic' Best Regards weeman
  23. Hi Dylan, Thanks for your reply. I have just obtained a whirlybirds kit conversion for 'black magic' Best Regards weeman
  24. Hi Dave, Thanks for your kind reply. I have heard a little rumour that roger evans has moved house, but I believe he is possibly going to start up manufacturing decal sheets again in February. Hovever, I have just obtained a whirlybirds kit conversion for 'black magic'. Best Regards weeman
