Hi 'Fredsopwith', Thanks for your reply and information about the 'Cross and Cockade' article. I will contact them and enquire when it was and if there is a back issue available. I cannot however see it being any help modelling wise, other than providing information and photos. I guess if I am to create a model of this aircraft, I will have to 'go it alone' and gather photos, dimensions etc myself. This aircraft appears to be very obscure and I cannot imagine anyone other than myself having attempted it. I always seem to pick subjects that are difficult. However, it raises a challenge, and that is what our hobby is all about. Once again, Many thanks for responding. Regards WEEMAN

Hi 'Cameraman', Thanks for the link to the photograph. Hadn't seen that one before. It appears there were 3 versions of this aircraft. I am intrigued as to whether it is a viable modelling subject. It seems similar to the felixstowe f2a lengthwise but the span of the f2a is greater. Many thanks for your reply. Regards WEEMAN

Glancing through the pages of the Lancashire Evening Post, I came across some photos of the English Electric P5 Kingston flying boat, which was built at Preston. This was the first I had ever heard of this aircraft. It also appeared to have been built by the Phoenix company in Bradford (?), under the designation Cork P5. It looks similar to the Felixstowe flying boats. Has anyone else heard of this aircraft and has anyone attempted to model it? Regards WEEMAN

Hi Steve. Thanks for your input and comments. Yes, I quite agree. This hobby is fantastic. First introduced to it by my Late Father. There can never be a definite way to achieve your goal. Everybody has their own views and rightly so. An individual modelling subject is viewed in different ways by many people, very rarely having the same perspective, but who can say who's right or wrong. When I posted this topic, I was amazed at the different replies I received, each helpful in it's own way. We collectively have the same hobby interest, but are individual in our ideals. Yes, I will keep using the 'old bristle'. I would never say my kit results are 'top notch' for competitions etc, but they, as the saying goes 'float my boat' (or 'fly my plane'!). Thanks for taking the time to reply, and 'may the sprue be with you'!!. Have a Good Christmas and New Year. Best Regards Andy

Hi Guys. Thank you all for taking the time to reply, and for your helpful comments. I have decided to 'plough on' with my project using a tin of Humbrol 'Blaze' I had. Apparently it is a deleted item now. It is not brilliant and is not quite the match I required, but is near enough for me. It covers far better than the 'Fire Orange' rubbish, but, as with all metallic type paint, is no where near perfect. I have come to the conclusion, with the help of your replies, that none of the metallic paints are really suitable for brush painting, and by the sound of it, not too good for spraying either, unless one is prepared to take a heck of a lot of time to try to achieve a decent finish. I am sorry, but despite all the comments, I still prefer my 'good old' bristle brush, and I will never change (that's me!). I fully enjoyed your replies and comments, and this post has been worthwhile. I have had a great lot of help on these forums and 'met' a lot of great guys and gals, and hope it continues. Best Regards Andy

Hi 'Steelpillow'. Many thanks for your comments and tips. This paint is very similar (if not the same) as the paint I used to use for fishing floats, to enable the float tip to be seen clearly. The paint seemed to cover better on the floats than on the kit. However, I do not necessarily want the 'fluorescence' effect on my model. I want the colour to look right of course, but I am not concerned whether it stands out. I fully understand what you are saying and a lot of modellers will probably want that kind of finish. Thank you very much for taking time out to comment. Regards Andy

Just found an article on the 'Airfix Tribute Forum' (I know, I am a traitor, and no doubt will be 'castigated' or worse!). Someone had trouble using 'fire orange' and experimented with different undercoats. He found that 'Trainer Yellow' did the job best. I have just tried it on a small piece of scrap, and it does appear to work. I will try it for real over the next few days and see what happens. I will keep you posted. Regards Andy

Hi HEPSTER. Makes me feel not alone knowing you had troubles with the paint as well. As I said earlier, I want to avoid 'rattle-cans'. I have always been a 'bristle brush' man, and I will stay that way, even though air brushes are used more these days. Thanks for your comments. Regards Andy

Hi DWH. Checked out the xtradecal on Hannants. Unfortunately it is for a meteor fighter, and my build is the cf-105, so that won't work. Good shout though. Thanks for your comments Regards Andy

Hi Viscount806x. Thank you for the info. I'll keep that in mind, but I really want a 'brushable' paint. I don't really want to go into a lot of masking, plus, I have used aerosols before and never achieved any kind of satisfactory finish. That is why I prefer a bristle brush. Thanks to you for taking the time to reply. Best Regards Andy PS to all - I am not being a defeatist or a quitter. It's just that I want to explore more avenues as there must be alternatives out there somewhere.

Hi Derek. Thank you for your information. Hmmm! Seems a bit laborious and fraught with problems to me. The paint doesn't inspire me if that what it takes to get a decent finish. I think I'll 'take a rain check ' with this paint and explore further. I can't believe this is the only option after all these years. Many thanks for taking the time to reply. Best Regards Andy

Hi. Can anyone help with this problem. I am having problems trying to brush paint this 'stuff' and it is awful. It is too thick and if thinned will not cover properly. Is there anything on the market that is an equivalent to this 'metallic' rubbish. I do not/will not use an airbrush (sorry, but that's my preference) so I need something 'brushable' that is similar to 'Dayglo' but in the normal enamel range. I hope you understand what I am trying to say. Best Regards WEEMAN

Hi Ray. Yes, I am using the Eastern Express B757-300. The basic airframe seems to be OK, but the panel definition, u/c and numerous other thing would need work on them. The last message I got from Richard was to let me know that the decals were nearly ready, and that he would let me know. I have not heard from him since, and felt I did not want to 'pester' him. I tried sending him a PM this afternoon, but got a message saying 'RICHW cannot accept any mor messages', so I guess his message in-box is full. Many thanks for the reply and information. Best Regards Andy

Hi Garry. Never really thought of it that way. If I did try to make something of it, it certainly won't be for a good while. Like I said, I could do with a break from scribing, hacking, sawing etc, as the last project was a 'labour of love' really. Anyway, I couldn't even finish this kit, as I have no suitable decals (as yet). I will probably have to do with making my own from scraps, or hand-painting. 'RICHW' was trying to help me, but I haven't heard from him for nearly a month. Anyway, I will not discard the kit, and maybe in the future it will get back on my work bench! Many thanks for your reply and comments. Best Regards Andy

Hi Richard. I recently posted a comment that I am abandoning the idea of modelling the aircraft I travelled on my holidays, due to difficulties with the kit. I know you 'were' in the process of producing a set of decals for me. I would still like to purchase a set from you as I may 'resurrect' the project in the future. If you have not completed them, or sold them to someone else, there is no problem. I did not want to keep sending you messages as I suspect you have other people to satisfy. Best Regards Andy

Hi 'Trojan Thunder'. It happens. I had a closer look, with the intention to build it, but the work it would need to be anything like I wanted would be very frustrating and time consuming. Plus I haven't got the decals for it anyway. I could buy a set similar, but would have to 'blag' it to get by. I am nearing the completion of a Hobbycraft Avro Arrow, which has been a 'mind boggler', so I am ready for something a tad easier. Maybe I will be able to use some of these kit parts on a future project. Never discard uneccessarily is my motto! Onwards and sideways. Thanks for your comments Regards Andy
-
Sorry guys, but I have decided not to continue with this 'project'. I have re-examined the kit and decided it is not worth the hassle. Many thanks for all your replies and help. Regards and take care Andy

Well, looks like I'll just have to wait to see if 'Northstarmodels' deliver the set of airline passengers I ordered. The Preiser set I ordered from 'Models 11' is a 'No Go' !!. They mailed me to say they were out of stock and awaiting delivery from the supplier. This is despite them saying the item was in stock when I ordered. 'Bummer' !!!. However, I think Preiser set 77102 will be declared obsolete, as no one, even the supplier, has any. Oh well, onwards and upwards.
-
Hi 'Tonyp'. Yes, I have ordered a set. Couldn't resist as they look so good. Just have to wait delivery now, but I will let you know my views when they are delivered. Regards Andy
-
Hi 'Tonyp'. Wow! and OMG!. They look superb. I've never heard of this supplier before. I'll have to have a set of those. Many thanks for pointing them out to me, and Thank you for taking the time to reply. Regards Andy

Hi 'AMB'. Thanks for your comments and information. I have looked at 'Ontracks' and 'Gaugemaster'. Unfortunately, the set I wanted (Preiser 77102) is not available on both web sites. That is why I had to order from 'Models 11' in the States, as that is the only supplier I found that had them in stock. Even 'Preiser' has none. I have only been to 'Scaleworld' once, and to be honest, it's a bit of a drag to get there from Preston. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Regards Andy

No problem Buzz. No need for an apology, as I am still learning what to say and what info to give people. Glad to know that someone has bought these figures as well. I am not planning a major diorama. I just want to open up one of the doors, add the airport steps, and a hostess at the top. Yes, I have a headband magnifier kit, which I purchased a year or two ago. My eyes aren't quite as good as they used to be, and the set has been a real big help to me. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Best Regards Andy
-
Thanks for the info Buzz. Yes, I was aware that pictures of the sets were on the Preiser website. But when I receive them, I am hoping to post more closer detail pics. They may help someone. I couldn't get the sets from Preiser as they were unavailable. Regards Andy
-
Hi Mike. Yes, you are perfectly right. I just 'wrongly' assume that everyone knows all the relative websites. I have not checked out 'Models 11'. It was just linked to the figure set I wanted. This is the link - http://models11.com/cart/ The only drawback to ordering from the 'States' is shipping costs. But, if it's the only game in town, what the heck! Will post some pics of the set, if and when I receive them. Regards Andy

Hi Guys. Many thanks for your information, suggestions and urging me to keep looking. I have found a set of Preiser travelling airline crew. I have ordered them from 'Models 11', an American based company. The set appears to be unavailable elsewhere. Many thanks for all the help you have given me. Best Regards Andy
