Thanks 'Nigel Bunker' Ha Ha Ha. I stand corrected, but it was a feature of the Jimmy Young radio show in the '60's (that's 1960's, not 1860's - LOL)
-
No 'Ed Russell', although it may have a bearing on it! Just a phrase coined by Jimmy Young meaning 'ta ta for now'.

Final comment - 'It certainly is sorted'!!!! 'TTFN - BYE FOR NOW'

Can a moderator please close this topic, as there are photographs that could be copyright and should not be one. We don't want to upset anyone else!

Hi 'bzn20'. You wouldn't believe it but after waiting for a response from Westair, I received an email just now. Hallelujah! The guy said he has passed my email onto someone called Jonathan. Unfortunately, he is on holiday at the mo, but will research the family archives for me when he returns. So I don't think there is much point me phoning them, otherwise the guy would have been able to give me the information in the email. Many thanks for your response and info. Best Regards Weeman Still no word from 'Westair'. 9 days lapsed now so not hopeful!

Thank you 'emira'. Brilliant! I think with the photo's and information you have provided to me, and along with 'T-21's contribution, I have a great chance of achieving the model of the Westair DH-89 that I wanted. Plenty of help from everyone else. I'm a bit disappointed (actually a lot!) with Westair. Two emails and a letter and not even an acknowledgement. I know they are on Facebook, but I will not contact them again. Pretty disgusted really, but we seem to find this with a lot of web pages. They only seem to respond when we are 'shelling out' money to them or lavishing praise on them in their feedbacks. Not so with this web page though!. Many thanks to all who have contributed (so far!) Best Regards Weeman Just noticed that 'DVJ' and 'CZP' are DH-86's (not DH-89's), but thanks anyway. And thanks for the 'short lived' colour photo!

Hi Graham. Yes, it does seem confusing. The main issue is definitely the lack of colour photos/illustrations. Me thinks if I don't get a reply from the letter I sent Westair, then it's 'Goodnight Vienna' for this project. Do you ever get the feeling of starting something you shouldn't have?

Hi 'Rob G'. Thanks for your input and info on Facebook. I will make a note of your advice. However, I will still not bother with FB unless I need to PM someone, or get a PM back. I have got a bit tired of FB over the years, and Twitter is even worse! Many thanks for responding though. Best Regards Weeman

Hi 'T-21'. Now I'm confused. The photo I have of G-AJKW has a triple cheatline!. And they look different shades. You may be right with what you say about the colours on your photo, but I think unless I get certain confirmation from Westair, I will abandon this. I know we have 'modellers license' but I don't think there is any point unless it's near accurate. Many thanks for your response. Best Regards Weeman

Thanks for the reply 'Miggers'. I Didn't think anyone would bother anymore as I re-titled this post as 'closed'. Yes, I am aware Westair are on Facebook, as I am also a member, but I stopped using it months ago as I got fed up with the rubbish posts. I posted a letter to Westair this morning as a last resort before I abandon the project. You are welcome to try them on FB if you wish. You will probably have more luck than me. I guess I'm one of those who most people take no notice off !!!!!. Once again, thanks for taking the trouble to reply. Best Regards Weeman

Hi. Not sure if this is the right area for this question. I have found a photo of a DH89 of Westair Aviation (Blackpool). As it was taken in the early '60's, it is in B+W. I have tried to find someone who knows what the colours / livery of this aircraft was, so I can construct a model. Is there anyway of identifying what the colours may be? Even a 'guesstimate' would do. I have emailed Westair twice now without response, so I am close to abandoning my project. I hope that maybe some of the guys and gals out in the 'britmodeller world' will be able to help. If I am in the wrong area, please let me know. Best Regards Weeman

Well I think it's time to abandon my quest for Westair of Blackpool DH89 colour or livery scheme. Emailed Westair twice now with not even an acknowledgement. But I guess that's life. The Air Illustrated paperback I got gives no clues either. Thanks to everyone who responded to this post.

Thank you for the information 'bzn20'. The photo of 'JKW' is better than the one I found. All I need now are the colours! Still no reply from Westair, so I guess they've 'binned' my email! I'll keep trying for and answer though. Regards Weeman

Thanks for that Graham. I looked for the Air Britain book on Amazon. There was just one but the asking price is £59.94!!!!!. Far too much for me. However, I found an Ian Allen 'Air Illustrated Special' paperback on 'ebay' for £4.99 (It was £15.67 on Amazon!). Probably not got the same detail, but the reviews are good. The 'soul-less' comment I made was directed at commercial aircraft really, as they all seem to be the same aircraft with mods (bit like cars now). I know there are still quite a lot of the 'oldies' still maintained and flying. Indeed most of the Military airshows feature them, as the expense and security issues are meaning there is less Military aircraft present. But then again, Military aircraft are looking the same as well. Guess that's the cause of CAD design! It's good how we start with one subject and digress to another. It's a Great website! Regards

to 'viscount806x' - That ride in a DH84 must have been fantastic. A far cry from the soul less craft we fly in today! to 'Graham Boak' - Many thanks for that information. I will have to seek out a copy of the Air Britain book. I am not looking for a specific DH89, but it has to be one that flew the 'tower circuit' (as G-AJKW). I have a feeling that obtaining registrations of aircraft that did the trip will be easier than the colour schemes. That's the main issue with aircraft photo's from the early years when monochrome was king and you had to be a brain surgeon to afford colour photos! LOL! Many thanks for replying guys Regards Weeman

Thanks to all who have 'so far' commented on my post with helpful info and suggestions. I was just thinking to myself that I did see Dragon Rapides taking off from Squires gate on their daily circular of Blackpool tower when I was with my parents, but never made a note of the aircraft markings as I guess I was too young. My Father was in the ROC and he didn't either (I don't think). All that information could have been a boon now that I make scale models. Same as when I went on a train. I never noted the number of the engine, but went on to be an 'anorak' when in my later schooldays. All useful information gone forever. Anyway, enough of reminiscing. I still await some information on the Blackpool tower aircraft and feel sure that with all the knowledge there is on this website someone will be my saviour! Regards Weeman

Sent an email to Westair yesterday. No reply as yet. Doesn't look promising. But then again, not many people respond quick to emails or texts these days! We live in hope.

Thanks 'Graham Boak' and 'markjame68' for your kind replies. I had a feeling there would have been an earlier post on this subject. I decided to try you guys on 'Britmodeller' first as I have always had brilliant information and help before. I will take the tip to contact 'Westair' in the hope someone can help me with this subject. Sometimes the people who know the information have left, but the info you are giving me sounds hopeful. I will come back to you on this one. Best Regards Weeman

Hi Folks. I don't know whether this question has arisen before. When I was a child, Mum and Dad used to take me quite often to Blackpool for the day (We lived in Preston which is only about 17 miles away). I used to watch the aircraft flying pleasure trips around Blackpool Tower, although my parents couldn't afford the money for a trip. Now I am a model making adult, I want to make a model of one of the Dragon Rapide's that flew around the Tower. I have the Heller/Airfix 1/72 kit. I found a photo on the web of Westair's 'Rapide' G-AJKW. Unfortunately the photo is, reflecting the era, in monochrome. This poses a question as to the colour scheme. I would think it is mostly aluminium or silver, but I don't know what colour the lettering or markings are. Are there any like minded modellers out there in the 'Britmodeller World' who can help me with this question. I had thought of contacting Westair (who are still in business), but thought I'd try 'yous guys and gals' first. Here's Hoping ! Regards Weeman

Hi 'SovereignHobbies'. Most of the parts are to fine and thin and aren't 'meaty' enough. The guns are OK in profile, but do not look like guns when assembled. Square section for guns does not work. The anchors are far too flimsy. Overall I would say the parts are really difficult and too fiddly to attach to the model. As I said, the cranes are the best parts as there is more substance to them. I could go on, but I guess you know that I don't think the set is very good, but that's just my opinion. No doubt I will get 'shot down' by other modellers (as usual!). Etch sets have never been my favourites, but I just thought it might add a bit more detail to what is a pretty basic kit.

I am currently nearly finished(?) building the Hasegawa HMS Vanguard, and what a 'pig' of a job! This is following on from a 1/72 Hobbycraft CF-105 Arrow (first edition), so my modelling experiences are on a 'downer' at the moment. I purchased the WE etched set for the Vanguard, and I am not impressed at all. Most of the items I find are unusable. The guns are hopeless. The only items I have used are the cranes and a few aerials. I have yet to fit the railings but am not looking forward to it. I have made most of the items included in the etch set from plastic card and strip. The etch set was commissioned for a customer apparently and there are no instructions as to where the parts go, so I have had to refer to numerous photographs and drawings. My heart goes out to the customer who ordered it! Ah well, such is this modelling life. weeman

Hi there, Many years before I took up modelling aircraft, I was an 'anorak', and my passion was steam engines. I have acquired an old Hornby 'Duchess of Montrose' which I want to use as a display item. Is there anywhere I can obtain a cab interior for this loco, or would I need to 'scratch build? I know this is unusual, but wondered if there is anyone out there who has done a similar project and might be able to advise me. Best Regards

To all who have replied to this topic. Many thanks guys for your input, but I have decided not to persue this project any further. Best Regards WEEMAN

Hi 'John Aero'. Thanks for your info John. I seem to have a habit of picking obscure aircraft to try to model. I have contacted 'Cross and Cockade' in a view to purchase a back issue which includes the article. Hi 'KevinK'. Thanks for your info about the 'Putnam' book. I have ordered myself a copy. This book seems to be a 'bit thin on the ground' and looks like it will soon be very hard to get. Regards to you both and for your time to reply. WEEMAN
