  1. Working on a Sword Strikemaster in 1/72nd. So far, so good, but it's alarming that the sprue gates are often larger than the parts attached to them. And whoever designed the mould for the towel-rail antenna really doesn't like me.

Still resplendent in its box alas! The Sword JP5 is taking longer than I anticipated! If you got the canopy to fit without widening the fuselage you have my respect and admiration!

Watch the canopy - it's too wide. It will benefit from a shim to broaden the fuselage at the front.

Yes it's got some nice white metal bits. Canopy is badly yellowed but will try a Pavla one for the Emhar Demon and hope for the best!

  6. Following from my last question, does anyone have any suggestions for a first RC aircraft? I have seen good things about the E-Flite Apprentice. Does anyone know this aircraft?

Not used Spectrum but probably a good idea to line up with what your club uses so you can connect them up and use as buddy boxes etc.

Excellent! I got my lad a second hand Futaba 6 channel transmitter on Ebay, plus a compatible receiver and then you can pick a Plug and Fly aircraft of your choosing and you will then have much better kit than if you buy a RTF package. The aircraft are probably the least expensive component of the package!

I would have a chat at your local club before deciding. They may have a club trainer that you can learn the basics on. You may find that you can pick up the basics - aircraft, transmitter and receiver more cheaply separately than the one you indicated. And then you can take out the receiver and put it in another aircraft when you get more advanced. Have a look on the Hobbyking website.

My son flies em and I repair em! We fly electrics - joining a club is a great idea so you can fly with an instructor and gain confidence before going solo.

I found their own thinners made the paint too "wet" so it just beaded on the surface. I've had some success thinning with IPA though. Except for the white which refused to go through the brush unless at a consistency where there were no paint molecules visible!!

Now you just need a pile of new tail pipe fairings to turn them all into RN GA11s :)

Maybe you could stick a pilot in the Phoenix and it could fire the Gnat? ;-)
