  1. Thanks for that. I was dead unlucky that the colour guide included in the box was unfortunately blank on the reverse side (this side listed the Tamiya colours). I managed to get a photo copy from the Shop from which I bought the kit. Once again thanks.

  3. Hope everyone is in fine feckle. My child minding duties have prevented me from doing any meaningful bench work. So I was initially confused to see the new web site style/format, and not a little disappointed. Has the build stopped? And is there an alternative to photo bucket? I have had a thought that maybe I'm missing a trick here - the last post I can see is dated 10 Nov last year at the bottom of page 3 - is there more perchance?

  8. Hurrah! I'd just about got to the point of deciding that the rest of my build would be OOB (no wheel lacing, no fancy bonnet etc.), when I see your new thread. Allowing for my new family commitment I am determined to see this build through. Many, many thanks Andi. Banny
  9. Well having seen some of the recent posts I now know that I have made the right decision to 'bale out' of the thread. As a relative newcomer to this size of build, I was thoroughly enjoying the tips and advice I was getting from the more experienced builders - that came to an end when the drive for historical accuracy excluded everything else. I am not going to explain my stance as a 'modeller' other than to say that I continuously strive to improve my techniques - the target is ALWAYS to produce work that pleases ME! (I'm not too proud to accept Kit manufacturers' box specifications). Good luck with your collective builds and new thread(s).
  10. I actually used some clear acetate(?) from a chocolate box! Can't get cheaper than that! (Except the chocolates were quite expensive). John
  11. Bonjour Olivier Crazycrank beat me to it! I was also going to advise the use of electric cable. One of the things I learned from this site was not to throw anything away - cable, wine bottle foil, aluminium pie tins. Credit must go to Andi for these tips. I wish I had seen the Bugatti T50 tutorial it would have saved me a lot of time. However, I found some suitable cable, then aluminium tube of the same inside diameter and followed the same process as above. By the way, I will not be adding nipples to my wheels. Best regards John

  13. Bonjour Olivier Oui - le meme chose exactement! Je voulais me souvenir de mon écolier français mais hélas il a été trop nombreuses années! Ceci est ma première construction «grave» et à travers ce forum je l'ai tellement appris (mais ont beaucoup à apprendre). Cela dit, il a été très bien une accumulation d'amour / haine.I hope my attempt at French makes sense!

  16. OK! OK! Andi you've shamed me into getting going again. To be honest I turned to a 1/24 Sauber C9 for a bit of light relief - I've nearly completed it so will soon get back to the battle soon. I note you're now into furniture making! Lovely work Andi.
  17. Like you Andi, I've surrendered to the nice weather and have not been at my bench lately. However, I'm getting back on track shortly. Some of my current problems to be solved are (a) the bonnet halves are about 1.5 mm too short, so I have added plasticard shims - these have to be shaped and trimmed ( I've not quite solved the bonnet hinge, but I'm close © the fuel tank is not sitting properly, and is preventing the fuel cap from locating correctly. But heyho, these are the tasks I've come to enjoy since I joined this site! I've really enjoyed building this vintage car, and aesthetically I like the look of the brass components. I'm looking for my next build, but don't fancy the Bentley Blower nor the "Mefist". Can anyone recommend a kit that can be purchased from the limited resources of the State pension?
  18. Right - I've started to replace the kit cables with 54 (?) guitar string. It's a devil to work with - hard to cut and bend to shape. I might just replace the rear ones. On a different topic - my next job will be to hinge the bonnet. I thought I had a solution using ally tube, with a simple metal bracket, curved at one end to support the tube. This has not worked for me as 'super glue is not strong enough. So, I'm trying to source some 1.5 mm styrene tube - any ideas?
  19. Got a couple of guitar strings - Number 54 (whatever that means). They are slightly smaller diameter than the kit springs. I'm experimenting with different fixing methods - I guess that they will be connected by a 'clevis' or 'fork' of some kind - that might be just behond my capability, so will probably finish up with a simple connector similar to the ones I made for the spark plugs.

  21. Steve If you find the 'cable' style wire let me know what it is can you please? You're right of course, not only is it not representative, it just looks wrong (and it's a pig to fit!) I'm sure I've seen some braided line somewhere for 1/12 scale - is that what we need? I'm tempted to re=do the plug cables. I'm not sure which gauge of tube I used. but it was the exact id for the cable I used. I'll see which side of the bed I get out of tomorrow
  22. Steve - by the way, thanks for pointing out the need for a longer screw (there I go again!) in the front engine mounting point.
  23. OK here are a few photos of progress as promised The things of note are the plug lead connectors which I made from aluminium tube and I used 15 amp fuse wire for the radiator hose 'clips'. In the 2nd picture you can see that I can't get the plug leads to sit 'authentically', but I'll put up with it methinks. In the 3rd picture I modified the kit wheel by adding pe strips to the wheel spokes, bound the wheel with simulated leather (I think from Hiroboy) and used a lucky find key ring for the oil screen mount. I have a couple more photos to post later
  24. Ahh! I found the answer to my 'greyed out' editing options. The icon top left of the post (looks like a light switch) toggles editing options on and off
