  1. I'm an American, in America lol.
  2. Thanks all. Project is a small delay due to me trying to figure out this new compressor I bought, the compressor has NPT fittings but my hose and brush are BSP, and its cheaper to get an adapter than a new hose so I'm waiting for that to come in the mail.
  3. Alright gents, So I'm going to go ahead and throw my hat into it (or try at least). I am only ever able to put a model together when the stars have aligned just right, and I guess the galaxy has done me a favor for once. I finally finished putting my office/ hobby room together the other day and aside from some necessary equipment for my airbrush, I'm going to build me a model dangit. Anyway I had a choice of either a -T, -J, -W, -F, or even a -G( Cobra Company kit), and alas I am going to try my hand at the -F. Although now that I think about it the -G probably would have been a lot easier as all it is is the resin conversion kit and OOB basically. On to the build! I'm using the Monogram kit for starters plus: - Werner's Wing's decals, TOW's, Cobra update set, M-260 Seven Shot Rocket Pods, and IPS & Debris Deflector - Fireball Modelworks ALQ-144 IR jammer - Master Model M197 20mm barrels - Wingman Models "Tzefa" update set (Not building a Tzefa, just want some of the parts off it) - Trying my hand at some scratch building as well, especially in the cockpit area Here we are with a little overview. I have not done much except for some sanding and cutting out the plastic mesh, etc. No construction or painting as of yet. Next are just some close up of the minor minor work I have done One thing I have noticed for sure is that with the newer reboxing of this venerable old kit she is definitely starting to show her age in the molding. There are a lot of parts that have just poor corners and flash everywhere. Good thing you can still pick up original boxings of it for pretty cheap prices. And alas here is an example of what the final product should look like, not this exact one, but the same Squadron.
  4. I am not aware of any stoppage in the use of BGM-71 TOW missiles by the Marines. I would try to find pictures of the specific airframe you are building to get a loadout example. BuNo. 165281 BuNo. 165319 Unknown BuNo. but it's dated June of 2011.
  5. Nice job on the blades. What size pin did you use for supporting them back on the mast?
  6. If you look closely at the doghouse of the OH-6, juts left of the number 3, it looks like there is moisture built up right there that has darkened the paint. That would mean that those 2 aircraft are definitely painted separate browns.
  7. Keep plugging away at it, you'll end up finding the right balance. FYI that gunnery range photo, the dark spots on the forward fuselage are from moisture, not paint!
  8. Ohhhh how I love it when a good Cobra comes together!
  9. Yeah it's just plain ol' helo drab, same as what you still see on UH-60's, AH-64'S, etc. No black to it. Nice build you have so far, may want to put some weight into the nose as it's a tail sitter.
  10. Something for your TOW issues possibly...... http://www.wernerswings.com/product.html
  11. This should be quite interesting as the only "black" AH-1 S or F flat plate canopy that I know of are the demonstration team birds. Is that what you are planning to build?
  12. I'm quoting "the man" on this, Mr. SuperCobra himself as it he has the information direct. "There are two different styles of oil cooler fairings used on AH-1Ws. Check your reference photos but generally, the smaller one is on early lots (and appears again on the AH-1Z) - and the larger one appeared in the early 1990s but may not have been retrofitted to all aircraft. Also note that on some aircraft, there is a bulge in the belly panel just aft of the oil cooler fairing (first picture below). This is another area where you have to check photos of the specific aircraft you are modeling. Typically all aircraft (basic, NTS, AH-1Z) could have this bulge except AH-1Ts that were converted to AH-1Ws (160XXX bunos). These bunos typically don't have the bulge but it is hit or miss on other aircraft. The bulge was for the OBIGGS which was disabled early in service but not all aircraft were retrofitted with the non-bulged fairing. In the case of the specific aircraft I'm modelling (162542 - the scheme on the TwoBobs and NTS boxing decal sheet with the snake on the side) the bulge is not present so I don't need a "tweak" as all of the kit boxings represent a non-OBIGGS aircraft. If I recall correctly, the larger shroud may have been associated with a nav upgrade and relocating and/or removing an ADF antenna." http://www.zone-five.net/showthread.php?t=14898&page=3 Now from my knowledge of these things I was under the impression that the larger shroud was due to an upgrade to the transmission but I guess I'm wrong. SuperCobra's build was from about 4 years ago and in 1/35 however it highlights A LOT of great information that can be easily translated to the 1/48 Italeri kit.
  13. The part you have in question is the oil cooler. Really like the seatbelts too where did they come from? I've been looking into possibly buying the Eduard PE set for the UH-1N to add to my Cobra builds and use those belts.
  14. Wow I thought I was looking at the real thing when I first opened it up! Great job, especially like the exhaust stains on the tail boom.
  15. Check out the 20mm turret available from Werner's Wings to compliment the barrels.
  16. So another option you could look at is actually removing the heat shroud all together. The Japanese do this a lot with the Cobra's, and I know it sounds funky, but since you are building one of their Snakes it plausible.
  17. Cobra seat belts are white or grey depending on the model. The AH-1Q had white belts.
  18. The thing just looks fast, especially when in that pose for in-flight. Liking the markings and the pilot especially. Good job man!
  19. Check out evilbay for them, I've seen quite a few of their sets on there and may work out better for you. Their products for Cobras are worth it.
  20. whiskey

    UH-1H

What did you use for the belts? Look really nice.

  22. Short rotor? The AH-1S in JGSDF still used the Kaman 747 blade.
