Rye field models 1/35 tiger 1 full interior
Firefly replied to Firefly's topic in Work in Progress - Armour
Hi Not had much chance to do anymore, but I thought I would make a start on the tracks. As you can see they are something to make in stages! At the bottom of second photo is the track assembly jig that comes with it, it will be quite satisfying when they are complete. -
1/72 scale Panther Ausf G....... 'Cuckoo'
Firefly replied to vindicareassassin's topic in Ready for Inspection - Armour
The problem with a forum is that a 1/72 tank has the same size image as a 1/16. So it's easy to unestimate the unbelievable detail some 1/72 models have. Even if I had the skill to finish a model like this, I certainly don't have the eyesight. So not only do you (and all1/72 modellers) have my admiration but also my respect. -

Hi all I'm doing a work in progress Tiger at the moment and as I'm still learning weathering etc, I thought I would do a bit of practice first. So I bought the cheap and very inaccurate Tamiya Panther you see here. Initially I pre shaded it and did a summer scheme (note the drivers blue tack scarf.....) I learnt a lot from this but the end result was over weathered . So next I thought I would practice winter camo. So using washable white this is the end result. I wanted worn white and also some mud splash, finally the effect of having driven through fresh snow. I also damaged the front mud guards and these are my first figures. I will be looking to get a better result from a model I will take more seriously ( probably a T34) so as this is purely a test subject I would welcome you advise on how to improve my results. All I found on their website was just a single page, but they do have a face book page. Spent all last night making and painting the co ax machine gun (mg34?). Unfortunately my I pad is not to good at close ups so I'm not going to be able to give very detailed photos of the smaller stuff. -
Having looked at all the different metal finishes, tow cables, rusty links and the tracks etc you have mastered how to finish each one to perfection. I'll be doing a Russian tank soon, a quick explanation of how you achieved the finish on the turret would be much appreciated. I'll be using your model as a reference for the weathering on mine, but don't expect to meet your standard.

Italeri M923 "Hillbilly" Guntruck 1/35

Very interesting subject, painted and weathered to perfection. Especialy considering the different types required from rusty metal, worn barrels, dirty flooring and the overall worn and beaten truck. -

Hi Well this is the result of my afternoons work. It's quite nice to start with something other than the hull first. I'm impressed so far with the quality and fit of the mouldings, very little cleaning up required. Found this photo today, pz Abt503 tank no.331. The kit contains decals for this tank. As I'm sure you all know, looking at b/w war time photos it's difficult to work out exact camo schemes and colours. But the camo pattern that's visable in this shot does seem similar to the one I've found in my introduction, so I'm happy to go with this. Cheers all. -

I have toyed with the idea of doing a cut away, but I think I will have as many hatches open as possible, and see if it's practical to have any panels that can be lifted off. Have you seen the 1/16 King tiger build on here, he's done a superb cutaway on that, would love to do the same, but the thing is massive. -
Hi everyone, This will be my 4 th build since returning to the hobby, and my first wip, so don't expect to much! But I hope it might be interesting as it has the full interior and engine, so it might be useful for me to pick your experienced brains as I go along. It's a pz.Abt.503 from the eastern front. The mottled green finish as depicted on the box is a bit beyond my ability, but I've found another scheme apparently used by pz.Abt503 as I've shown below, so that's the one I'm going to do.

Awesome, seems a shame to paint it when it looks this good.

That looks really good, really like the camo job.

A lot of time and effort has gone into all aspects of this build, and it was really worth it to get a result like this. And it's nice to see a believable figure.

Hi everyone After a very belated return to the hobby, I now find myself totally addicted. Well here's my 3rd attempt since starting again. I had intended to go for more complex kits with interior detail, but a few weeks ago I saw a built Sherman for sale on the Internet. Not only was it a fantastic build, with it climbing out of the sea onto a beach but it also featured a 4 colour camo scheme and wooden side armour panels. I really wanted to make it just for this paint scheme but couldn't find the kit available. Thankfully I found one on the Internet and here it is. Although a simple build I've really enjoyed the painting and weathering process. My intention was to create a faded and very dusty/sandy finish. A lot of these tanks had metal pins added to the hatches, which I have tried to recreate, but my still limited parts bin ( and limited ability!) has resulted in them probably being a bit out of scale, but I still like the overall effect. The first picture is the tank I've tried to reproduce.

Excellent, especialy the exhaust detail. -
Thanks for your kind remarks. Sherman's nearly done, so will put full set of photos up soon.

Just finishing an academy marine Sherman. I used some small metal rod for the spikes on the hatches, but I think it's to large for the scale. Be warned, glueing them on is a real test of patience!! I'll be interested to see how you get on.
