Nah...used to be an aircraft modeller, and will more than likely still end up being one! Thanks for the comments guys. Nice to see this topic rearing it's head again. Cheers, Jim -
Lovely work......what a MONSTER! How did you mask those cam lines? Cheers, Jim

Hi all, Here are some pictures of a stalled project but now re-started; the Dragon 1/35 Panther G 'Steel Wheels' kit. I found this to be a real easy kit to build, but with some real nice detail. I'm pleased with the progress so far, and might consider another one in future, but with a little PE and resin in addition. It looks a little too pristine perhaps The model has been airbrushed with Alclad grey primer, and then given a coat of White Ensign Colorcoat enamel (Dunkelgelb). After this coat, black was added to the base colour and the edges of recesses of the model were sprayed to create lowlights. Some white was then added to the dunkelgelb base colour to create a highlight colour, and this was sprayed into the centres of the panels. Next job.....a heavily thinned coat of base colour to blend everything together. Now, I need a drink! Cheers, Jim

I work in a Science dept, and these things come in their 100's and 1000's. Just seems natural to use whatever comes to hand, and with a little Blu-Tak, they are an ideal storage medium, and easy to inject into the airbrush too This is where I buy from HERE Jim
-
I use those plastic droppers/pipettes which are about 3ml capacity. If I need some paint to dry, I suck up the remainder into the dropper and cap it with Blu-tak, then clean the airbrush. When I need to resume, I just shake and squeeze the dropper and squirt back into the cup...voila! You can store thinned enamel for ages in a dropper so you can keep it ready for action. Jim

I use Xtracolour Flat Varnish XDFF (75ml) which sells for £1.95 from Hannants http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=XDFF Works out nice and cheap after you've thinned it 50:50 with white spirit, and the finish is totally flat. 75ml goes a LONG way Jim

Tiger I Late (Dragon 1/35)

Thanks for the comments guys. The yellow area is just the scheme in the Dragon kit, and I think it breaks the overall gloom of the finish without being too sore on the eye. My crap spraying of gloss yellow paint (latter matted down) served to look naturally 'weathered' before I did a little more at it Jim -

Sure so! I want to see that resin mantlet in it's rightful place Cheers for the comments guys. I've already started to resurrect my Panther Jim -
Hi all, It's been a long time in coming, and my wife is breathing a sigh of relief, so here is my first completed model in 2 decades (and first ever armour as aircraft are my main interest), and the first that I've ever done with resin, PE, metal tracks, pigments and airbrush. The resin zimmerit is ATAK, and the tracks are Friuls from Lou Stener. Colours are White Ensign Colourcoat enamels. Pigments and filters are MIG. I know it's not perfect, but here she is Jim

hehehhe...I have a Cyber Hobby KT. Wish I was in a position to build this in tandem with you. Panther and Pz.Kpfw.IV first though. Jim
-
Try THIS. Jim
-
Thats VERY nice. The WEM grey is great. I bought some for my Pz.IV too. I've just finished MY first tank so I'll post it tomorrow. Nice weathering. Much more brave than I can attempt at the moment. Jim

Bloody lovely! I'll be be pleased if mine turns out 10% as good as that Jim -
I use Premi-Air Liquid Reamer for enamels and (soon to be) Alclad paints/primers. For acrylic paint, I clean with Premi-Air Foaming Airbrush Cleaner. These can be bought from the Simple-Two-Trade ebay shop for a good price and relatively inexpensive postage. Jim

Pretty sure that Klear WILL act as a barrier between most types of paint. I've heard of acrylic paint covered n Klear, then given an oil/white spirit wash. Or am I wrong?
-
Looks an interesting project. Looking forward to seeing you tackle this one Jim
-
What a great looking build. The paint job looks immaculate. Wish they would do one in 1/32 Cheers, Jim

Shave a little 'height' off the forward and rear bulkheads which sandwich the cockpit, and it fits like a dream as the wing can sit 'lower'. Jim

There's a whole build log of this kit HERE Cheers, Jim -
Get your RLM's from White Ensign Models. They make a great range of authentic enamels which are suitable for airbrushing. Cheers, Jim

I don't find any modern paints are anywhere as good as they were 20 years ago. Humbrol paints need to now be thinned and built up, and even then the matt colour you need is still crap. These used to cover almost in one coat with the exception of the lighter colours. I can sympathise. I have an airbrush but haven't plucked the courage up to use it yet. I have had some limited success with brushpainting Tamiya colours, but Vallejo are far better to brush paint. A little thinning may be required though otherwise you get some dragging. I wish I'd stockpiled the entire Humbrol range when I was a kid......it would have saved me loads of trouble recently! Cheers, Jim
