Star Wars new model kits from Bandai
Richard Baker replied to Despy's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
IMO your FM Falcon still has value- especially since the Bandai kit is not released yet and will be difficult for most people to get due the limited production and the way they chose to sell it. If you kit was priced a bit below what Revell is charging then you have a great chance to sell it for some decent money. The Bandai Falcon is one I am thinking will be a series of kits- a few sprues swapped out and you have the TESB and TFA versions. I am planning on getting the TESB one myself- I think it looks the best. The ANH Falcon is available for preorder already on different sites so you still have an opportunity to get one. Due to the nature of this release it will not be available for long so if you want to order one I would pull the trigger soon. Just my opinion for what it's worth... -
UFO series back on the telly soon!
Richard Baker replied to The Cameraman's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
It really does- I have been watching the show this past week and it is surprising how well it still works. It is also very nice to have a show that does not spoon feed you all the answers before the last commercial- some episodes do not have any real explanation for what happened- you just deal with it as it is - that is how life is. -

Star Wars AT-ST, AT-AT and AT-DP camouflage schemes
Richard Baker replied to Gekko_1's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
Now that you mention it, the sound of the ATATs marching was the first detection in TESB- after hearing the thumping they brought the electro-binoculars up and saw them approaching. Personally I love high tech scifi vehicles in camouflage - it makes them a bit more 'real world' to me. While not conventional, I played around with an Action Fleet Snowspeeder- I gave it a camo designed to hide it on an alien planet with a very different colored ecosystem. -
Star Wars AT-ST, AT-AT and AT-DP camouflage schemes
Richard Baker replied to Gekko_1's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
I was watching the AT-ACT attack Rogue One last night and got to thinking. These walkers are very tall- they are either out of range or you are looking way up at them. Any camouflage pattern would seem to make them even more visible against the sky. How about one where the main body/head and the upper legs were done in a low-viability light gray-blue and maybe the lower legs in something to mix in with the ground clutter... just an idea... -
Star Wars new model kits from Bandai
Richard Baker replied to Despy's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
I think the text mentioned 'gramps X-1 ', (Vader's TIE X-1 Advanced Prototype) I would like a model of this for completeness- I wounder if the kid knows how to fly it well though.... -

Star Wars new model kits from Bandai
Richard Baker replied to Despy's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
Apparently the only new kit Bandai has displayed at the Shizuoka Hobby Show is the Jango Fett Slave One in 1:144 scale- something we were expecting anyway... -
New Blade Runner trailer
Richard Baker replied to spruecutter96's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
The Teaser had me a bit worried but the Trailer looks so much better, the film does not seem as dense as the original but it has that same vibe... -
Moebius 1:350 USS Franklin from Star Trek
Richard Baker replied to Richard Baker's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
There has been occasional talk about a 1:1000 Galaxy Class model, unfortunately Round 2 does not seem to be very focused on big Star Trek kits much these days. I am glad Moebius is getting into the game, even if it is only the NuTrek ships. The more companies releasing kits the better motivation for others to up their game... -
UFO series back on the telly soon!
Richard Baker replied to The Cameraman's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
I was watching UFO on Hulu last night- they have the entire series for streaming. 'Mindbender' was fantastic- both as a concept and the fact we got a chance to see the actual filming sets from the studio point of view. The Moonbase Control Room looks so high tech inside, but outside it is just plywood and translights. -

Bandai does some truly incredible casting- -
Did some checking- the 3D BluRay Target edition has a DVD with two additional features: Inside the Creature Shop (480p, 6:02): A detailed discussion of creature design, including details like how they live and move, what role they play in the film, and how they interact with and are influenced by the worlds in which they live. The piece explores design details and challenges and human performances inside costumes. It looks more closely at a couple of key aliens: the Mon Calamari and Pao. Digital Storytelling (480p, 4:31): An examination of the unique way in which Gareth Edwards directed all-digital scenes. It also looks at high-tech lighting, how model work helped the digital designers, making the U-Wing, and Death Star destruction from the ground-level. This is a very interesting piece, too short to be sure, but one that offers some great insight into modern large-scale moviemaking techniques. Star Wars new model kits from Bandai

Revell seems to be still stuck on that 'Box Scale for SciFi' mentality. This is a carry over from the sixties when scifi movie and TV shows were not considered serious model subjects and buyers should be grateful for whatever they slopped out. FineMolds and Polar Lights/Round 2 finally settles on consistent scales and for once our hobby seemed to be treated seriously. The sad thing is if Revell only tweeked their sizes just a bit they could fall into a regular scale without any additional cost or a larger box. I like displaying subjects next to each other, even from different universes, when they are the same scale. I focus on kits which allow that now -
Which disk set did you buy? From what I have heard, the Target set with the 3D BluRay is the most complete with extra features, And of course Han shot first- that is one of the most defining character moments in the film series.:-)
