  1. I finally finished my Spitfire Vb yesterday, having struggled to find a decent matt varnish. I thoroughly enjoyed this kit, except for the landing gear.
  2. Hi All, I started my Spit Vb a couple of weeks ago. It's proving to be as pleasant as other new tools in the Airfix Arsenal (well, apart from the landing gear) and I thought I ought to share my progress so far... Masked and Primed I painted the underside in a mix of Hu 90, and 34, to tone down the green tint of their sky Painted topside in Tamiya Flat Earth I tried my luck with free hand camo on the HU 27, a bit poor but I tidied it up with blu tac, and more flat earth And this is the result after tidying her up Sitting on her wheels (after a little swearing and superglue) A shot of her undercarriage And last update from yesterday, the landing gear still hadn't settled, so I used a little more glue and then had her resting on two nail files acting as support struts. That worked like a charm
  3. Amazing scratch building for the flaps and slats! overall nice model too
  4. Cracking work, shame the colours didn't work out as planned! I used XF-52 and XF-81 on mine, they came out better than I expected. On my phone camera, the brown nearly came out orange.
  5. It puzzled me too, they could have used the same style as the Hurricane. Once glued and then clipped into place, they never budged once!
  6. Thanks Glyn. Yeah, I found out the hard way that perserverance pays off. Not only the landing gears, but the cockpit, and the fuselage to wings fits didn't agree with me, as you can probably tell. Oh, and the Gun port decals, which I will need to paint on when I remember to. Thanks a lot, Parabat Thanks Steve, I used Tamiya paint through the Revell Beginners Airbrush set: I have bought a Badger compressor as well as an Iwata Eclipse CS, so that'll be my new set up once the pipe cleaners and brushes arrive to clean them properly
  7. Yeah, I Knew the new tools were going to be good, but damn...this was effortless! Ha don't be daft, have you tried the Airfix new tools? To be honest, these photos almost make it look better than it is...(unless that's me being a pessimistic perfectionist) Thanks Vince. Thanks Richard
  8. I found this kit absolutely flawless. It was such a pleasure to build!
  9. I finally got round to setting up my studio so I could show off better quality pics of my models. I found this a bit of a ballache in places, with bad fits, and the landing gear wouldn't glue in place properly, so I had to use super glue and leave it supported all night
  10. As in building the same kits, but using your new stlye and techniques? or repair them upto your current standards? Thanks Mr B Thanks Steve, I took a pic of it next to my 1/48 GR3 too...
  11. Thanks, Val I'm a bit of a perfectionist lol, it just really annoyed me at the time. As soon as I realised how bad it looked, it went straight back in the box, then in storage for 5 and a bit years, until I realised it was time to sort it.
  12. Thank you Simon, oh yes, I have no more half built kits now. It feels good to put it to bed. I'm going to build either a Seafire, Spit PR, or MkV next. Back to 1/48.
  13. Hi All, I'm posting my first inspection post here. What I have is my latest build, but it was a model I bought and started in 2010, to try and rekindle my interest in the hobby, while on a caravan holiday. Needless to say, I bought the wrong colours, and the bad fit I encountered put me right off. It was Sept 2014 when I got back into building again. Anyway, I picked the box up again last week, and felt that same bug in my belly that I had when I bought it. I've included a before and after shot too. I'm aware I missed Aerials and other parts from the build.
  14. That looks great! I have the kit also, I want to build it as the White/Green scheme
