  1. You should try it mate, it'll change your outlook on decals completely. It takes a lot for me to try something new, but I'm totally chuffed i did in the end. Thank you!...You should have seen the previous 2 attempts! haha Yeah, but all the way through I wanted to rush it and just get it painted, I'm so glad I held my patience in Thank You Bob, it really has. It's a new benchmark for me to try and improve upon Go and do it, it really makes you appreciate masking tape Thanks Richard, do you fancy it one day?
  2. Really? I only had silvering on the transparent ones at the rear of the model. The rest went on alright. What do you use on decals? I had Mircoset & Sol on them, first time too, I was very impressed with it. Much better than decalfix
  3. Haha yeah, My neck was aching all the next day! It was worth it in the end though. Oh you're hilarious! I guess Gregg has been telling you stuff You can have my tub if you want? or gregg can. I'm never using it again!
  4. Hi Guys & Gals...I present to you, my lastest completion. The New Tool Sea King. It took me 3 attempts to get the camo half decent, the 3rd of which was achieved by 8 hours of masking.
  5. Hi all, I'm currently working through a 'what if' of the Airfix 1/72 Tornado. Needless to say, those who have built it will know just what it is like. I was going to build it Grey as it should be, but then I had an idea after I had primed it black, how good they look in black. I was going to give it a night fighter scheme, but then opted for a 'what if' of a bomber command special livery, as the Op Granby Tonka is at the moment. I'm going to use a mix of aftermarket Granby decals, and the kit decals. I thought this would be a good idea as I've never seen it done before. 'Primed' with a coat of Tamiya X-1 Photographed beside my girlfriend's Airfix C47 Masking for camo layed out. I tried to follow the examples set by the Halifax and Lancaster bomber styles. A couple of coats of Tamiya Flat Earth first. Followed by Tamiya RAF Dark Green 2 First unveiling of the masking efforts, the black is still X-1 but I changed that to NATO Black. The Hindenburger fuel tanks from the Revell equivalent, and I wasn't aware until afterwards that I put the fins on wrong. The underside, having been painted with Tamiya NATO Black, and Pitot probe painted silver. The blu tac was holding the fuel tanks straight while drying Top down view of the paint job. As she is now. Exhausts fitted, still needs some minor touch ups, clear coated, and awaiting decals and weathering. I have either a Harrier GR9 or SU27 to keep me entertained until I'm ready to progess with this kit.
  6. Thanks Mate, you should see the Tonka 'what if' I'm on with. Have you left SAPs btw? Thank you, It took a lot for me to do that. I'm usually scared to mess about incase I ruin what I've spent loads of time with. I was tempted to buy another one, and have it eith BoB, RAAF, or Green/Grey.
  7. Thank You, and that's the very reason I'm taking a break from Spitfires for a little while. I have a Lightning and 2 Tornados to crack on with in the mean time
  8. That looks amazing. I don't see anything wrong with the colour, like F1Boomer says, it fits the aircraft well.
  9. Yeah, I'm going to sort the exhausts soon. I thought I'd used the same colour as my previous builds. It doesn't look too bad in person but the lighting in this makes it look light silver. The landing gear was a right pig, the pegs don't fit great, to the extent that even superglue took ages to set. I set it in an approximate position, and left it on stilts overnight which seemed to work
  10. I ended up using matt cote thinned down, I'll try the dry brushing technique for sure, Thanks Stevey Lad
  11. Could you recommend anything? I was thinking the exact same, but at the time of posting, that's the best I could muster up
  12. Ah guys, you got me! You're right. Historical innaccuracies, eh? In my defence, all I know about spitfires and crowbars is that I've seen others do the same (having never ACTUALLY seen one with my own eyes). I present to you, the amended product.
  13. Funny you should mention that, that stuff silvered the test area of my Hurricane. I thought it was weird as I've heard really good things of it
  14. Thanks Badder! I've heard good things about that stuff, but it took me all my courage to use the matt cote after the clear issue haha
  15. Thank You very much Thank you, I used Tamiya flat earth, and Hu 27. The Humbrol paint really didn't like being used, hence there's a bit of 2 toning on the right wing. I can put that down to harsh weather conditions in the Mediterranean
  16. Thank you. It could have been finished a while ago, but I purcahsed some Humbrol matt Clear, and it silvered a test model up pretty bad, so I tried the matt cote. Luckily, even though it was cloudy, it came out fine
