  1. I might pick up a 1/35 tank, but are these new tools? Reissues? I also would’ve loved to see some new tooled American aircraft in 1/72 akin to the Hellcat, something along the lines of an A-20 or an Avenger which could have both USAAF and RAF schemes, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this year.

Just checking in to see how one of my favourite aircraft subjects is doing - did you lay your hands on a set of decals for the Thunderbolt? Cheers. Mike

I found some decals with the 1942/43 USAAF roundels, so I’m gonna make it an average Razorback from 1943 probably this weekend.

  3. Hey man, I love the build, it looks like you’ve done a superb job with this. Only problem is that it isn’t done, and the ready for inspection page is for finished models only unfortunately. I recommend moving it to the appropriate spot, the work in progress page, so we can see the full extent of your progress.

Cockpit looks really well done though!

  4. I think the airbrushed tri-color scheme on this aircraft is really well done, though I think you put too much chipping in some areas, most notably the engine. Do you know if Eduard has aftermarket stuff for this, like resin or brass or something? Next time you build one I would use those, it really changes the detail in some areas. Speaking of which, I’m not a big fan of this kit. The cockpit detail isn’t good and the fit is bad as I can tell you filled it quite a bit. Also there’s no seatbelts, and I HATE KITS THAT DON’T FEATURE SEATBELTS, IT RUINS THE WHOLE MODELLING EXPERIENCE FOR ME!!!1!! HOW DARE THEY NOT CARE ABOUT THE MODELLING COMMUNITY AND NOT ADD SEATBELTS!!1!1!! Did you also engrave the panel lines, I can’t tell in this photo.

One other thing is that this kit is rather hard to find, but that’ll end soon as I’m pretty sure they’re making a dogfight doubles set with Superman.

Overall I think your kit looks fine, not amazing but fine, and I think your next kit will look really good with practice.

    6/10.

This was one of my favourite kits when I built it last century - a big tough hombre and the prop spun beautifully! Looking forward to more progress - are you doing wheels down on this one?

Yes, but it’s stalled recently because I lost the decals. Not a big deal, they were pretty yellow, and I can get plenty of Razorback decals on eBay for cheap.

  6. I’m a huge fan of Raiders Of The Lost Ark, and I was wondering where I could get a kit of the Flying Wing. I know Black Sun Models has one but they’re out of stock and it’s $125. If anyone has one in the stash please tell me as well.

  7. I got this kit at a vendor at the Planes of Fame airshow in Chino this year, great show. Before posting this I’ve assembled the main body and have almost finished painting but I’ve encountered some setbacks on the way.

firstly is The absolutely atrocious fit of the wings which required multiple uses of the Tamiya putty. The mod says 1964 so I’m not so surprised.

The cockpit is standard ‘60s Airfix, just a seat and an endless abyss of plastic.

One thing thing I like about this kit is the silver plastic, which I can just scratch the paint for chipping.

I’ll keep updates on the model in the coming weeks. It’s the perfect weather for outside modeling so I’ll be getting some fresh air now.😊

  8. I was really surprised about the Airfix vintage classics, it reminds me of this Star Wars line called the Vintage Collection, where new figures were put in old 1970’s boxings.

But seeing the prices, I think this is a plan by Hornby to sell older molds at a higher price, with the excuse of a “nostalgia” line. There are tons of kids back in that era who built those kits (my Dad included) and I can see a lot of success out of putting the old Roy Cross paintings on the front. I also love the minimalist logo and design, I think they should switch to that logo and no red trimming for all boxes, as the Airfix logo is so recognizable (and the Adam Tooby art really shines.)

I just wish there were more aircraft in this style.

Yep, that looks like the 1974 boxing and the 'New' looks like it is for the decals rather than a 'new tool'. Your decals look like one just got dirty on the corner rather than overall yellowing, for which you just tape flat to the window on a sunny day (like today!) - you could try it but I've found before that dirt like that floats off when you actually put the decal in water when using. If you are going to 'weather' your build then it will fit right in! I love this Thunderbolt kit - it's a simple build but means you can spend time on the paint job. Hold back until the starting gun....

The mold says 1965, So yeah, probably new decals.

fortunately it’s always sunny in Southern California, so I’ll start to do that today.
