Thank you. I might have named the topic wrong and given folk the wrong impression from the outset. Anyway, sanding and decalling tonight. It's great when you have the momentum. -

So, on to the canopies. As you can see, a mold line down the middle. Why do they do that? So, first of all, look at a few YouTube videos... Let's get the tools ready. I've had these hanging about for years, just getting to finally put my money where my hands are. Next, gradually remove the mold line with the scalpel... WARNING! Do not try and use a high speed, 240V Dremel with polishing compound! I melted the plastic. OK, so I'm learning! So, after a stiff whisky, this is how they turned out. The scratches are from the cutting board, the canopies are fine. I masked them inside and out as I'm going to be displaying it with the canopies open. -

Many thanks. This is my first model in ages and also the first time on Britmodeller, and I'm beginning to get performance angst. -

And so to getting used to using the airbrush again. I think the hardest thing is changing colours in between, but now have it down to a fine art. Also, experimented with different paints and pressures. And tried pre-shading for the first - but not the last - time. After a coat of Vallejo Grey Primer, the pre-shading with black... ...then shaped and tidied the black with Tamiya XF-19 Sky Grey... ...and finally coated the above with Vallejo 71.121 Light Gull Grey. You can't really see it in the picture but the overall effect is quite subtle. Quite chuffed with my first attempt. Future next. -

Closed up. Always a balance of what you can see in the cabin vs what's going to be hidden. I mean, I'll never look at the rudder pedals again! The body goes together with minimal filling and sanding. -

In the mean time, I tried my hand at making a base. Fibre board over MDF. Used AK's Concrete texture paint before cutting the paving slabs to scale. Then black sprayed on the joins, two types of grey, a spot of flock grass, and once the plane's made, I'll pop a yellow line on. -

Gracias Andres. Yup, we got to sit in the SF-5M and play with some of the buttons too (nothing dangerous). The T-38 was a close approximation so I started from there on the understanding that it wouldn't be a 100% accurate model. -

The cockpit was a new challenge as I hadn't used PE before. They actually look quite nice. Painting: just start from the bottom layer and work forwards. The decals were placed over the instruments with Microset and Microsol and seemed to settle down ok. They won't be touched. -

Now, the problem is that the Spanish versions come with tip tanks known as Coca-Colas because of their shape. I've asked someone to make a set of 1:48 3D printed ones so fingers crossed. I also have the decals from a modelling shop in Badajoz. -
Good afternoon, Usual thing: after several years in the modelling dark, I've accumulated all of my equipment and stash in one location and have been following lots of these builds with interest. I'm very much an OOB guy and after a recent visit to Ala 23 at Badajoz, Spain, I decided to make a 1:48 scale T-38 as a thank you to a member of the group. More to follow. So, let's start off with a photo of the box.
