  1. Only the fifth kit across the finish line this year is Trumpeter's RA5C Vigilante in 1/72, this one has been almost 3 years as WIP but now its done I think the result is worth it. Its quite a big aircraft to operate from a carrier and one that suffered a disproportional lose rate against the North Vietnamese forces due to poor tactics they were forced to follow by the Pentagon. The Trumpeter kit has its flaws which have been well documented but if you can work through those the finished aircraft is a good addition to the collection. Built OOB less the CTA decals set "Welcome to the Jungle" for aircraft no 19313 of RVAH-6 based on the USS Constellation in 1966. Its not the usual high vis grey and white that most of the Vigilante are seen in ans I liked the more unusual 2 tone green and grey camo, the sheet also has another RA5C in a more standard SEA camo as well as A1 ,A3, A4, A6 and F4's in various camo patterns. Paints are Tamiya and Mr Hobby Colour with some oil paints and Flory washes for weathering.
  2. Vigilante is complete, RFI is below and for HPoriot her's a picyure of the intake, even without the intake you can't see much beyond 1"
  3. Will take pictures from front so you can see soon
  4. I think that is due to the fact it was a very short lived scheme, 6 months at the most.
  5. Tail planes and most of the undercarriage in place and did some oil stains on the underside. Pitot tube and the last of the undercarriage has been painted, just needs the Flory wash and then it just the flat coat to go.
  6. Decals have been completed and its had a coat of Florys dark Dirt wash, always enjoy this as I think its one of the most transformational stages as you near completion. Moving onto the undercarriage next.
  7. I resprayed the few spots that needed it and clear coated before started on the decals last night, not many for this aircraft. Really need to have a bench clear up once this one is done.
  8. A bit less of gap since last update, work and wife are still keeping me busier than I'd like but finally got the paint on. Quite happy with the colour scheme with only 3 small area that need to respraying. Wing tips and tail trail fitted. I'll respray the intake and the tail section that had a bit of over spray and start on the undercarriage.
  9. Would probably have had the armour packs removed from those cr1, as for the smooth bore cr2 it was first fitted and tested back in the mid 2000's in a modified cr2 vehicle with just the gun from a leopard 2 everything else was standard cr2 less gun control software
  10. Poland use of M1's was only ever a stop gap until polish production on the licence built K2 klp was well underway but that won't be until 2026 unless they can begin sooner
  11. Confirmed by various online videos that the CR2 was disabled by mine strike, crew all survived, vehicle abandoned due to incoming artillery fire, Russian then brought up kornet atgm which started a fire that resulted in the final state. Unsure if it repairable from grainy images
  12. I was given this kit by a friend who knew I was a modeller and has seen some of my aircraft to see what I could do with one of these. Must say I was surprised with it as I had not seen a Citadel kit since I was about 14 and back then most of the miniatures were white metal and needed super glue and wire to assemble. The kit had multiple arm and weapon choices include a big axe and shield combo but I felt that was to "war game" so went for a multiple barrel cannon or melta on the right side and a big claw on the left. Limited on colour scheme as this kit was designed as a Space Wolf feature piece, I fitted magnets to the torso joint and arms so they were moveable rather than fixed. The only citadel paint was Russ grey, the rest were Tamiya and Mr Hobby colour acrylics with some oil wash for panel lines. Used armour modelling techniques rather than the war gaming painting style with lots of paint chipping for good effect, base snow effect done with woodland scenic's snow powder. I've gone and bought another of the Citadel dreadnoughts, a Contemptor from the Horus Heresy line to try next.
  13. The NLAW is able to defeat the cages fitted ti soviet vehicle as they were designed to detonate at a fixed distance above the target to form the efp and cages being mostly wire do not stop the formation of the the efp enough to be effective. Cage may reduce the blast effect from grenade or ied dropped on them but will not be effective against western missiles
  14. Yes but the effectiveness of both EFP and tandem types results are directly proportional to the distance from the target, is the closer the better so any air gap is worth the effort.
  15. Intakes were masked with foam and maskol and then fitted to the fuselage, just need a little Mr Surfacer 500 to fill some small gaps along the wing roots. Painted inside the camera housing before the glazing is fitted. That its for now SWMBO has had me fitting a new shower so I been chasing leaks with silicon, hopefully that will be finished this weekend so I can get back to the Vigilante.
  16. A bit of a gap since last update on the Vigilante (2 years and 7 months) but before I can really get into the Mohawk I still need to clear a draw in my WIP cupboard so this was moved from the bottom to the top. Finally finished the seams at the rear and fettled both wings for a better fit and joined together. Even without the outboard wing section it only just fits into my display case so it will be wing tips folded up. Unfortunately Trumpeter did not include any intake ducts or engine face but its a deep dark void so we'll see how it looks once the intakes are on, these have been sprayed white already.
  17. Thanks for the info, I'll admit that when I selected the scheme I didn't notice that it was the Bolingbroke rather than the Blenheim and just followed ROPs instructions. Also noticed in the top picture the recessed hatch(?) in front of the turret is singular rather than square as well..
  18. Thanks, also has the fuselage bomb racks. Unfortunately details missing on the decal instructions.
  19. Latest Finnish is the Airfix 1/72 Bristol Blenheim MkIV built as the Bristol Bolinbroke (never heard of it either) in RCAF colours, 115(BR) Sqn, Helwan, Patrica Bay Aug 1943. OOB build with ROPs decals. Nice kit to build and you can see this is the first of the Bristol 2 engine bombers that Airfix released, the Beaufighter and Beaufort improving and becoming better designs. Painted with Tamiya and Mr Hobby Colour acrylics with some Mig weathering powders. All comments welcome. All 3 of my Bristol together.
  20. Here's the start of the seats. And after some Tamiya XF1 And a start on the cockpit components
  21. Just started the seats, so far 4 plastic parts and 3 etch each.
  22. After completing the Viggen and its complicated paint scheme I was looking for the next build but something less involved paint wise and came across a video review of the Clear Prop OV1A Mohawk. Not an aircraft I'd come across before so had a quick look at the history and was suitably intrigued so ordered the kit from Hannants. First look is good the parts are flash free, 2 photo etch frets and 5 marking options. Onto the sprue shots. Well packed 2 part box. Option for wheels up or down with 2 lower fuselage panel provided Clear parts look very nice. Masking will be interesting Instructions are well laid out, there 27 photo etch parts for each seat in the first four build steps! Five marking options, all from Vietnam theatre but looking at the wings I think the later OV1C/D model will be available at some point. Just got a few things the finish on the Blenhiem and then I'll get started on this.
  23. Excellent work and I enjoyed the magazine article as well, another one for the Xmas wish list although I would prefer the infantry carrier variation
