  1. After many years, on and off, of modelling my health has now made me realise that am struggling more and not enjoying it at all. Too much pain, cramps, dropping stuff etc. So, the work shed is slowly getting emptied, funny how many old post of paint you find. I will be running my RC tanks at the club for a while but getting shut of some of them, just want to keep it simple. Will have a box for spares to keep the ones I intend to keep running but that is it. No more building, my 1/72 scale 'rusty-crusty' Flower class, made as the sunken wreck of HMS Compass Rose from the the book and film, The Cruel Sea, will be my last, a fitting end I think, as she is the biggest sunken model I have made and she was featured in Model Boat Magazine. I shall look in from time to time as there are some smashing stuff to see. But, I wanted to thank all the good folks that looked at my work over the years, thanks guys it meant a lot. Take care all. Si.
  2. Hi Brett, followed this on Model Ship World, Great work in plasticard for the ribs and hull, in fact, great work all round. You have turned a forgotten gem, shame she was scrapped in 1902,-so many innovations, into a wonderful showcased piece. Anyway, I babble on-top draw work and a stunning model to show for all the hours you have put in.
  3. Nice work Sebastian. Like the weathering and on such a small scale, you have to be careful it isn't over done, looks spot on to me.
  4. Oh yes, outstanding model! Lovely work and finish. Top drawer build, another fave for me. Well done Rod on a cracker.
  5. Thanks Vince, every mag bought is a few pennies for...well them actually 😆 If you do get it, hope the article reads okay mate and you enjoy it.
  6. That is a lovely build, really nicely made and the rigging looks tops. Displays really good.
  7. Well, I thought it only polite to to add the link on the build. 👍 Glad you like the piece and for the heads up regarding the piccie count. And so you should...now, feed me some grapes
  8. You may now call me your highness and doff your cap and grovel, I will be on all the talk shows and making millions...dream ends and time to wake up. Cheers Jeff was a nice thing to happen. Si.
  9. Hi guys, just a heads up if any of buy Model Boat magazine. My 1/72 Flower class wreck model is featured in July edition of the magazine, out now. And she is on the front cover 😀 Link to finished model here:
  10. Easy done Vince, I read stuff and think I need to go back and forget, others I miss and find much later, no worries mate. Really chuffed you like it.
  11. Many thanks for dropping by and for the nice comment, I must admit that I have tried my hand at all types of modelling, except aircraft-me and wingy-things do not seem to get on. Glad you like the crusty old tub.
  12. Thanks Jeff, got a finalistation draft today with the layout, just nitpicking a few details and should be good to go for July issue.
  13. Little bit of a update. Model Boat Magazine are, hopefully, doing a article on this model. Have been writing it and drafts are back and forth. Unsure which issue it will be in though.
  14. Thanks Chewie, I have a board for her but the size, after knocking various items off the workbench, made it just impracticable plus, displaying her was going to be a nightmare, the missus isn't happy as it is with it sat on top of the bookcase in the lounge 😆. Really pleased you like how it turned out and I managed to get it looking okay.
  15. I have to agree, a very nice looking model, really like this build. Now, if you send it to me, I can crust and rust for you and do one of my sunken jobbies...I.E ruin it 😆
  16. What a gorgeous model, beautifully made Jon, like this very much.
  17. Some pictures of her at the lakeside with my club. Some may have noticed, I went back and redid the plaques again, look better IMO.
  18. Glad you like it and yes, I too have the book and enjoy reading that as well as the film. She is a marmite-boat, holds affection for a few and hate, especially in foul weather, for the crews.
  19. Toby, a wonderful model and setting. You have certainly captured the rough journey in heavy seas, the worn look of her and you also get that sense of 'at the ready'. Top drawer build mate.
  20. Little update on this. I wasn't happy about the 'newness' of the plaques, they didn't suit the nature of the model so, spent the afternoon turning brass coloured anodised aluminium and laminated plastic into something that looks older.
