  1. Cracking model, nice work you have done the build and yourself proud. There is never a right way to build and you can never do anything wrong, even seasoned model makers are always learning. Remember, you build for you and your pleasure.
  2. Thank you Mr Beefy. I know the program you mean, good stuff and enjoyed it. Glad you like it and no CG in sight.
  3. My pleasure mate, funnily enough, I did a 1/35 pacific Sherman that got stranded. It was left and the tide claimed it then it got stranded more inshore as the beach built up.
  4. Glad to know you will give it ago. The skill is is paint finish and weathering. The basic technique is so simple, you can make the model a glue bomb as it will be covered, just use a paintbrush and add the undiluted PVA, do in sections and then use fine sand, or something similar and just pour on, just build up any areas and keep doing until covered. The trick is the primer, I use a rattle can and just coat the model, this binds and seals the sand coat. Once dry you can paint, airbrush, sponge and colours you like.
  5. Vince, asked if I could put all the subs I have done for comparison. First attempt, also on a base. 1/125 scale. Second model, 1/125 scale. Third model, 1/125 scale, commission build, model kept as client balked on payment. Forth model, 1/144 scale, commission build, client paid in full. Latest build, 1/144 scale.
  6. Ta Vince, I can have a look and see if I can get all the subs on.
  7. Hi David, firstly, many thanks for looking and for liking my model. The process is a very easy one. First, the model is assembled and bits twisted, bent, dented etc. Then a very fine sand coat is added using undiluted PVA, leave to dry and then coat with primer. Once dry you build up the paint layers and colours, for the rust patches I use a mixture of old, rail and new rust pigments applied using some white spirit.
  8. Yep, with a bit more sea slime, I normally do not do this much. Glad you like the rusty crusty Steve. Thanks Jeff, yep, many perished in the iron coffins. In all sunken sub models I have made I always have hatches open...gives that look of at least some got out.
  9. Another crusty rusty sunken sub. This time I had a go at doing various greens and hues to build up colour, I also used some matt and then a light gloss varnish to give a wet slimy look. The stand is the original kit one but, I added some brass embellishments to it. Thanks for looking. Si.
  10. Well, it bugged me, I went back and greyed the cables lightly. No piccies but, thought you guys would like to know, does look better and not as shiny.
  11. If, I can be bothered, I may tone down the cables down, don't think the flash helps either. Pleased you like it though, thank you.
  12. LOL, amazing Ian, I was thinking the same, I only had some aluminum paint, I wanted to do it steel and forgot I ran out. I did go over with some graphite to try and tone down, you're right though they look too shiny. Glad you like it.
  13. Thank you, appreciate you popping in. The mud was a light pigment powder applied using pigment fixer.
  14. Hi guys. I got a couple of Airfix kits at Crimbo from my nieces, the 1/72 Tiger 1 and their classic range the 1/76 tank transporter. Now, I normally stay away from this scale due to my disabilities, I have also had a diagnosis of essential tremors, muscle cramps and hand grip issues so, as you can probably deduce, braille scale is pretty much a no-no. However, I wanted to have a go and this past week I made the Tiger and wanted to make it good for my nieces. After assembly it was primed, then I airbrushed the top coat and then a slightly darker camo added. It has then been weathered using a light dusting on my finger in graphite, just to highlight areas. Aluminium paint for the tracks, I had no steel colour, (I used the 'easy' two part jobbies instead of doing the separate wheels etc, I thought this would be easier...not when trying to paint). I then did a graphite rub over them and then added some rust. I then did a dried mud dust pigment on the track wheels and sides. Finally, I made a aerial by heating some sprue and stretching it, painted it black, finally, decals added. Came out, far better than I would have hoped. Thanks for looking. Si.
  15. Yes, we did mate, and same right back at you Vince, I hope all went smoothly.
  16. LOL, I'm the same Vince. Glad you like it, still got this in the workshed...somewhere.
  17. Was that at the IPMS show John? Glad you like them, the M19 was developed for use as antiaircraft defence back end of WW2, the allies had that covered so the M19 was put to use in a direct fire role, 40mm bofors going at a bunker or emplacement...ouch. The M41 was developed back end of WW2 but did not see action, both did see action in the Korean conflict, reason I thought the M19 needed a friend. The Stuart, the Classy Hobby version?
  18. Superb mate, they sound great. I also have a M19 that is scratched made, hence the M41 to be a playmate in the Korean battlefield.
  19. Braille scale is way to small for me nowadays, hence the bigger versions 😀. There would be no way I could scratch build one in 1/72 scale-kudos to you for that. Really pleased you like my efforts.
  20. I got this 3D printed model but, it needed some work, it didn't help that I drop it and smashed in one side 😡. The chassis should be a M24 Chaffee but, there isn't one so, a Walker Bulldog was used, I had a donor chassis and the fourth return roller was added. After I repaired it I detailed it, scratch made parts, traverse, elevation wheels, catches, bolts, clips, rear lights and guards, mounts, handrails, intercom radio, spotting scope. The MG, spotting scope and searchlight are mounted on magnets, saves losing them. Once done it was primed and then Tamiya olive drab used, I then weathering in using light olive drab as a wash and sponged, black oil paint and some rust. Once dry it had a clear coat. The electrics are part done, needed a new MFU so this was bought and working on re-pinning the connectors. So, the vehicle is finished apart from the internals. 'SMOKY' JOE'S' M41 'GORILLA', 155MM, TWO PART BAGGED AMMUNITION, HOWITZER. Thanks for looking guys.
  21. Thank you, just catching up on missed posts. Really pleased you like it.
