  1. Thank you Pat, didn't end up too bad, wasn't sure if the process would work as I have only done 1/125 sunken subs. Glad you like it. Cheers Jeff, I have done smaller scale sunken subs in this way. Chuffed you like it mate.
  2. This is a model I got that was in a very bad way, lots of parts broken and missing, hull damaged etc etc. She is the old Matchbox version and time hadn't been kind to the plastic so, what to do? Yep, another rusty-crusty. One of my favorite war films is the 1953 'The Cruel Sea'. I have seen many of these boats made as statics or RC but never, to my knowledge, one of The Compass Rose's final resting place. Not done one this large before (some may remember my sunken subs) so, wasn't sure how it would turn out, lots of coating and many hours of painting with rattle cans, airbrush, sponges, dry brush and pigments. Finished and sealed in a satin/gloss finish to highlight the wet and slimy look being at the bottom of the ocean. Of course, damage etc is based on watching the film and trying to figure out what may have happened, she was supposed to go on a board but, the extra weight (she is heavy now with all the coatings) and the fact it would be just too unwieldy. I kept some of the superstructure just to make her look interesting, in reality most of the items would have been ripped off or rotted away. I suppose she is about 30 years submerged here. Stand was made, varnished and oiled to look old and a couple of plaques added with a quote from the film. Many thanks for looking. Si.
  3. Thanks mate, I have made various models over the years and 1/16 was mainly due to disability issues, as I used to sail RC boats at the club a few of us got together and formed the military vehicle section. I am not sure if Heng Long do the Jagdtiger, it could be Torro or Taigen but, there is one in 1/16. Thanks mate, have added a couple of detail parts but nothing major.
  4. Nice build, like the look of the big cat. Nice weathering on the camo, tones it and blends it, great work. Oh, and of course, it has the most important item...the bucket on the back.
  5. Not a kit Keith, this is a Heng Long 1/16 RC. They come in various upgrade versions, the basic has nylon gearboxes, plastic tracks, sprockets and idlers and retails for around £180 ish, they then go up to pro and platinum versions. These have metal running gear options. It is then a case of stripping and detailing parts and then putting it back together. With a bit of work these, and others can turn out looking like a half descent model with the added bonus you can drive them around. I do these type of tanks and have had many over the years, Heng Long, Taigen, Torro and even Tamiya (but at £1000 or more, I leave these alone). I am in a club and we have a military vehicle section, we run tanks, trucks.
  6. Cheers mate, appreciate it. Ta mucho Keith, glad you think it looks okay. Thanks Pete, really pleased you like it.
  7. That is a lovely build, cracking paintjob and weathering. Top stuff, like this one a lot.
  8. This is a model that has been in the making for over 10 weeks on and off, I got it this cheap as it had some damage and decided to really go all out in detailing. Started well before Xmas, the cold, illness paused work on it. I actually finished the Chally 2 before this. I got the tank and running gear. Metal tracks, sprockets, gearboxes, metal barrel and muzzle brake. Tanks was then stripped and detailing began. I made the rear lamp guards, cover stanchions on glacis plate, hangers, fender stays front and back, boxes made, new hanger for turret mounted track links, bow gun made, metal turret MG added, vision periscopes made, mantlet serial numbers added, mantlet and turret fastner and stays added for foul weather cover, new aerial mounts made, figures head replaced and correct helmet added, binoculars drilled out and epoxy added, beard added to commander and a total repaint. Total repaint with US Olive drab 1942, shaded and weathered, spot lamp scratch made. One thing I did was to try making my own rubber outers for the wheels, used a bike inner-tube and, they worked. I made the inside of the commanders hatch, soft padding for his head, the latches and the periscope. Just loads LOL. So, here is 'BOB' Berlin or bust.
  9. Thanks Keith, she is a big one. Glad you like it.
  10. Hi guys, finished my RC 1/16 Challenger 2. Total strip down, with steel gearboxes, sprockets with trap anti-slip inducers, metal idlers and tracks. Rewire to make the rear lights as brake lights. Total repaint in Nato green with a slight weathering, decals and stencils used. Scratch made drivers port, scratch made rear anti-bump probe, made new aerial mounts, new MG swivel made, covers made for barrels, coaxial chain gun has a new mounting, bit of work to finish that off when I find something suitable. rear lights painted in Tamiya clear, Dichrome film used to simulate the anti-glare and anti-lazer coatings on the vision blocks. Warning flashing amber light on turret works from the transmitter, disabled the smoke unit-never bother with them as the are drain on the battery, burn out and coat your tank innards in smoke oil so, that switch no operates that. Had her out for a test run today and all seems okay. There will be a flash unit fitted into the barrel, when I get around it, and a couple of small detail parts to add when I get them.
  11. Got this with some damage, parts missing but has got metal tracks, sprockets and gearboxes, been working on this for the past 6 weeks on and off. Strip down, detail parts made, cable for infantry phone at rear, vision port covers, hangers/grab rails, new 30 cal bow gun made, Mantlet drilled and coaxial fitted and telescoping sight done aerials made, fender support stays, front glacis parts made, commander has period helmet (3D print) and I gave him a fuzzy beard...just cos , other bits etc etc. Lots of pics looked at to try and get right, not the easiest to do as some tanks have parts some had not or possible removed. Had a new paint job in US Olive Drab and then light weathering, decals added and a matt varnish coat applied. Still some detail parts to do but thought you might like to see it 90% finished. Si.
  12. Cheers B McB. It came out rather good, pleased with it. Glad you like it mate.
  13. Very nice Lee, lovely detailing and weathering, she is defo going to need a dust off.
  14. That is a shame Zac, not sure why they are not showing for you. Thank you for looking though, well reading the blurb anyway. Does this work Zac, can you see this? Cheers Stuart, glad you like it, something just a little different from the standard Bully.
  15. This is a M41 Walker Bulldog but, it is a mid 70's Danish Defence force version. In the mid to late 60's the US supplied Nato members with tanks and many received the good old Bully. The Danish ran these with some small modifications from the 70's and around late 70's into the 80's they modified them further, main change was the petrol engine into diesel, optics, turret baskets, smoke discharges, side skirts. Mine is shown from around 75-ish, it has the Euro road spec of rear lights, indicators, wing mirrors. Halogen off set spotlight (unlike the US central bigger version.) Smoke dischargers-on one side, tools on the glacis rather than right front fender area. Commander has a Gentex headset rather than the UK tankers helmet, mainly because I could not get hold of one but, this style came in in 73 so could have been issued, variations of this design are still used today. A lot is scratch parts and bits from other tanks utilised, has metal gearboxes, sprockets and tracks. So, here is my mid Danish M41, they finally hung up their tracks in 1999. P.S Little update on this. I made the 50 cal ammo can cradle wrong so went back and remade and also, changed the commanders hatch latch slightly. These changes are not shown in this set of pictures. Thanks for looking. Si.
  16. Nothing amateurish about the weathering, great job, in fact, great job overall. The black and white photos from WW2 do not show the level of rust that shows after weeks on patrol in the atlantic. That is why after a war patrol they came back to the pens, crews had a rest and the boat was cleaned, repaired and repainted. Top job...me like very much mate.
  17. Cheers Erik, really pleased you like the crusty-rusty. Appreciate the lovely comment, many thanks.
  18. Defo too crusty Bertie, for the time frame and conditions but...it is what it is. Pleased you like it mate, appreciate it.
  19. Agree, also, with it being WWII Russian there tends to be just one standard colour, so it was some steaks, rust and dust. Glad you like it mate.
  20. I like this, a Frankenstein beastie that has worked very well indeed. Top job and a nice clean build.
  21. Yeah, Many scuttled in deep water are damaged by just the speed they hit the bottom. This one, was scuttled in the Flensburg Firth which has some deep water but not deep enough she wasn't able to be raised-not sure of her resting place on the seabed or depth.
  22. Hi Jeff, the boat was scuttled in 45 and raised in 57, in that time I don't think it would have crusted as much but, There are a few pictures of her being raised but they are black and white and not great, I still think I went overboard a bit. Still, glad you enjoy looking at her and many thanks for commenting.
