  1. Von Trips You're not THE Count von Trips of Ferrari fame in the 50's are you? See, I'm old enough to know that name. Anyway, thanks for the info. Shouldn't be too hard to find an R.A.E. kit as I already have a full bag of rocking horse droppings. Someone else has told me the Revell is about the next best kit if I can find one so that will be my mission now. Frank
  2. CrateCruncher Thanks for the reply and good info. I'd sort of come to that conclusion after reading a lot on this forum that there's not much on offer. The Revell looks not bad (other than the spokes) and since I only scratch build I wouldn't mind having a go at those wheels. I've done many wire wheels for car models. I'll start looking for a Revell kit. Thanks again Frank
  3. Hi Brickie I'm new here and one of my passions is Vincent bikes. I'm not familiar with kits as I mostly scratch build so can I ask what make your kit was and whether it would be a good one to search for? Any help much appreciated. Frank Smart
  4. Black Knight ... you mentioned you have a Vincent kit. As an elderly geezer now who once had a Rapide back in '60 something I would love to build a model of any Vincent. Can you tell me what's out there in kits and what quality you think they have ... eg which is worth buying vs NOT. Much appreciate any help. Frank Smart
  5. Very impressive. As someone already said ... it's more impressive that it's done at 1/32 scale. A picture with another object (hnad or a pencil) would blow us all away. Congratulations.
  6. Hi Here are some half hull models I've made. First up is one of our own boat ... 37' Alberg sloop (since sold). Hull carved from Renshape. 24" long model. A true labour of love. Next up is our previous boat ... a Thunderbird 26. These are plywood hulls built to a Canadian design. I removed the cabin and cockpit when I bought it and built a totally new cabin so if anyone thinks it doesn't look like a T-Bird ... that's why. I made this smaller model (13") for one of our sons who was very fond of the boat as a child. Next are two identical Contessa 26's. Our friends who owned it had split up and they both wanted one. I made a fiberglass mould from the first hull to save same time. Both are 12" models. Enjoy. Frank
  7. Thanks all for the kind comments. Stuck ... the floor grating is cut from some scraps of cocobolo. It's an extremely hard wood and I just wet sand it and apply some polish as a finish. Frank
  8. Me again Built this for an old friend who loves his powerboat. Took me a couple of years of hobby time with other projects sandwiched in. Had to make my own plans from photographs (now available to anyone who wants to try one) and many trips to the boat to take photos and measurements. Hull was shaped from planks of composite decking I got as discarded material from a neighbours deck. All the stainless work was formed from stainless steel welding rods and silver soldered. For those interested in scale it is 24 inches long but the real thing is 36 feet. And yes, I did make every one of the aluminum T joints between the rails and uprights. Hope you like it. MANY pictures of the build are available but I will just post a few of the finished boat. Frank All four horns really are a different style and length!
  9. Roy I rarely (never actually) build to any accepted scale. I just pick a size I like to work in and make the plans to that size. The TR is about 8" long I think ... close to a 1/24th scale? My friend doesn't collect models so I made it just to sit on a shelf somewhere at a size he could enjoy. Said he likes it!! Glad you like it too. Frank
  10. Kev I don't remember now!! I seem to recall that I ran a fine triangular file down the gaps between the planks then used a brown felt tip pen to make the "caulking". But it looks like there's something different in the gaps doesn't it? Let me ponder that one. I didn't install the iron slug provided for ballast as I never intended to make a sailing model. Frank
  11. New here. This is a TR6 I built as a surprise gift for a friend. Body and wheels cut from a block of RenShape. Everything else handmade. Hope you like it
  12. Hello all New to B/M and this is my first posting. About 40 years ago my good wife gave me this kit which I assembled to a bare hull stage then promptly forgot about it. More recently, having retired, I decided to finish her up to at least a better looking display model. I do only scratch building these days so I was looking forward to fabricating some of the metalwork needed. Also gave her a planked deck, cabin top, a bit of interior and a fancy Canadian style cradle to rest in. Anyway, she's done and sits proudly collecting dust on a cabinet. Frank
