Just a foot note Nick Sheffield had the second highest battle honours of RN warships at the end of ww2, Warspite being the highest, there was a serious attempt to save her but to no avail, instead they decided to keep HMS Belfast her half sister ship. Cheers

The decision to fit her out with stainless steel was I believe more to do with them using it because normal steel which was used to construct the stanchion's would rust, I think the ships bell was also made of stainless steel. As far as I am aware these were the only area's that were stainless steel, Nick Cheers Ray

English Electric P42....hypersonic
wizard4 replied to general melchett's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
A complete revelation to me I had never heard of the P42, what a beast if it had ever been built that said it's a very remarkable piece of model making, well done. Do you think that if it had been started it would have gone the way of the TSR2? Thanks for sharing -
Apologies folks Sheffields number was C24 not C32

Very funny Rick I did pick up two Hawks over Wales, three Alpha's dog fighting over the Devon countryside with another one over towards Farnborough and another one heading our way from Wales. -
flightradar24 picking up RAF /military movements !
wizard4 replied to AirfixAndy's topic in Real Aviation
Ok I give up I have FR2 on my phone and laptop, occasionally I might pick up a Herc, or Hawks, or Alpha Jets, North Devon see's a lot of Tornado's and other fighter aircraft they do a lot of dog fighting down here, but I have never picked any of them on FR2 so how come they are showing up on other people using FR2 -

43rd Scale F1 F2 F3 Racing Car detailed models in Resin/White Metal
wizard4 replied to mikestow's topic in Vehicle Discussion
I know that by today's standards, they are crude and not the scale you want but there were some really nice F1 cars made by scalextric, especially in the early years which can be modified Just a thought -

Does anyone know if there are any model kits of this aircraft, as when I was training at Swinderby many years ago we were trundled off to Scampton for a flight in one however we never got further than boarding her, as there was a fault with aircraft, but it's one of the aircraft I would like to build a model of.

Tamiya Komatsu bulldozer 1/48 scale
wizard4 replied to cger's topic in Ready For Inspection - Dioramas
Very nice dio, very well thought out and presented, I like the fact it's a bulldozer instead of the usual armoured vehicles, shows great imagination and good thinking outside the box so to speak. Well done. Cheers Ray -
I recently sent back 6 tins of humbrol matt 27 as it was either staying sticky or shiny, they have sent me back 6 new tins and they seem to be better, but I did find the paint is very thick, as for humbrol silver I do remember it had this habit of coming away on your finger, these days I spray the model with car primer, and use car paint if I can get the colour I want, I had some arctic silver left over and used that, which was fine, i used it on my BMW Z3 kit as I had bought it for my real Z3 car, Cheers Ray

AIRFIX 1:24 SCALE JU 87B-2 STUKA CUTAWAY
wizard4 replied to Fozzy's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Fozzy all I can do is echo everyones sentiments quite astonishing, it's like walking into an aircraft museum, and seeing an aircraft done like yours, there is so much to see, so you have to keep going back to see it. Brilliant model. Cheers Ray -
I really like this Stevej60, you have produced a fine model. Cheers Ray

IJN YAMATO - 1/350 by Tamiya (New Tool)
wizard4 replied to elmarriachi's topic in Ready for Inspection - Maritime
I am curios they have omited the barbette rings, which I would have thought would protect the main turret drive. Cheers -
Hi Al Oh dear hoped you wouldn't ask that, it went to the happy hunting ground, it fell off of my car at one point and although I repaired it, it was never the same again, it lasted for another 5 years, but eventually it was falling apart, so I built the model in 2004, and finally had to scrap her in 2013. I suppose not a bad run, she was the first model I ever built of this type, the hull was resin, from Fleetscale, and the fittings, were supplied by another specialist, the main structures were scratch built, as was the deck. Cheers Al Ray

This is an r/c version of HMS Sheffield, that I built, not to be confused with the other one which I have in the build section, this one was 1/128 scale so smaller than the 1/96 version I have started.

Mega winter build 1/96 HMS Shiny Sheffield
wizard4 replied to wizard4's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
It's length is 73.5 inches long and 8" wide, it will have two speed controllers for independent port and starboard control. -
Thought I would share this with you all, one rather large R/C HMS Sheffield I will update it's progress bearing in mind most of it will be scratch built.
