  1. Dispersals where spread around the perimeter, mostly in camoflage sandbagged enclosers, they well have bern housed on seperate sites completely. Hangers would have bern an obvious target for enemy
  2. is anybody aware of a Spitfire T8 or T9 Canopy available in 1/48 or is it best to wait for a whole conversion kit to materialise somewhere
  3. yes that was my thoughts..i looked at the list of pilots credited to MT928 and they are all dated early to mid 1945. I think they have confused it with an earlier ZX-M LV729 was much closer to the date where it could have been in desert scheme, but ive seen no pictures of it thus oh well three other options on the sheet, I'll just have to change the rudder....and possibly the wing tips
  4. I have the Xtradecal sheet for the 1/48 of this plane. It shows it in the desert scheme. But I can't get my head around the dates and use of this camoflage. The was an earlier VIII which carried the ZX-M code carrying an LV code...could Xtradecal have mixed up the two.
  5. hopefully the new May release date will coincide with Thunderbird Models release of this in 1/48 https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiN0Oi1wcjhAhWzA2MBHaKkAr0QjRx6BAgBEAU&url=http%3A%2F%2Fthunderbirdmodels.com%2Fen%2F172-decals%2F26-72-002-thunderbird-models-172-canadian-racing-spitfire-mk-xive-decals.html&psig=AOvVaw066sJTZkXq8jFd_4UO5jUW&ust=1555088279676259
  6. its a start...I am amazed compared with the volumes and volumes pr wartime spitfire and their pilots stories at the complete lack (so far) pf post war Spitfire stories. I know they saw service against insurgents in asia.. but there has to be some pilots stories somewhere about them... quite a few of the published pilots carried on serving in the RAF and flew these marks. but their stories always end in 1945 I have built the standard OOTB 22/24... was just looking for something a little more........personal
  7. I have dozens and dozens of books and reference material for just about every Mark of wartime spitfire, but absolutely nothing except a few images of Mk22/24 Spitfires in action. Are there any online resources of military action by these version, details of famous pilots, unusual markings etc I have a spare Airfix 1/48 Model calling out to me to be a bit different
  8. I know it's undersized, but still almost impossible to get underneath the ICM panels.. The reason I have over a dozen . I tend to build them as a bit of fun between models as standalone. I'm going to use one in a engine fitting scenario out of the plane.. I'll give the Edouards aftermarket engine a try
  9. I have tons of ICM 1/48 Merlins...does anybody know which engine this actually is meant to be or is it just a generic lookalike they put in all their kits no matter what Mk
  10. You have forgotten about his Mk XVI...but thats a whole new kettle of fish
  11. sorry to resurrect this subject, but well under way in building BR114 and have been looking at the history. People have noted that the modified nose section usually seen in PR versions. My theory is that these VC's were newly arrived and had been flown to Aboukir after being modified for long journeys on Aircraft carriiers, This included reducing the armement, fitting larger fuel tanks and fitting a larger oil tank which necisitated the nose modification. As these VC were stripped to reduce weight, the larger oil tank would have been removed, but maybe at a later stage of modification as the cjhanges were ongong
