I have literally just started this self same kit and your model is a real stunner. Love it.
Can I ask though,
Did you have problems with the fit of the engine cowl inserts?
Did you replace the exhausts with an aftermarket item?

Really stunning bit of airbrushing on your model. Even though I have an Iwata HP-CH airbrush that is one of those schemes that I would avoid like the plague. You've created a stunning Gladiator. Love it.

It is a funny dumpy looking aeroplane but you done a great job on it. Shame that after all your work the engine parts were hidden from view on the finished model.

Great job on getting the kit finished and to such a stunning finish. I started this kit a few years ago and gave up when I got to the tracks. What a nightmare they were!!

Excuse my ignorance but where do the figures in this scene originate? I am assuming it is a ready made set that was released by someone?

Does anyone know what the source of the SM79 is?
Is it an Italeri or Academy kit? I am sure Airfix has never tooled one of these.
Strangely enough the website has it listed as being 1/76! That can't be right can't it?

I think I see an earlier turret to the top right of the clear sprues.
The built sample in the photos has the later style turret which from what I know of the Beaufort came into being with the MkII. Either way I am really looking forward to this kit.

Been looking at this model again and a question has come to mind;
When the Sicilian based British Shermans had the rear sand shields fitted to the hull top as stowage baskets, did the crews then dispense of some of the pioneer tools?
Just wondering.

Don't want to be the prophet of doom but I started this model a few years back and got roughly to where you are at now before the whole thing came to crushing halt.
Things started to unravel for me when I came to do the tracks.
I found that because of the sand shields the tracks really had to be assembled and attached to the model before final construction and painting. The problem was that the contact points between each track link is so minute that with the inevitable handling of the model the tracks literally exploded into many individual segments that could not be placed back together again.
There may be aftermarket replacements available now but at the point I built this model I could find nothing.
If you can get the kit tracks to work then you are a better man than me. My kit ended up in the bin.

Probably once the Airfix Beaufort gets released there will be the veritable raft of accessories tooled specifically for it.

Just found out about the new Beaufort and I say well done to Airfix - the world has been in need of a decent Beaufort since....well....forever really. I might have preferred a 1/48 kit but a whole new tool Beaufort for around £20 is to be applauded.
I guess seeing as I put a Beaufort down on my suggestion card at the Airfix stand at Telford in 2018 I think I'll take most of the credit for this announcement.
If they follow my other suggestions then we can look forward to a new tool Lockheed Hudson and P-40F/L next. You can thank me when they both duly arrive.

I see the new tool Vulcan listed on the Airfix website for £59.95.
That seems quite a lot to me.

Well done on your lockdown kits, you've certainly been productive and I love the scheme on your Panther.
I laughed at your description of what constituted weathering in the early 80's.
