  1. Unfortunately, if the real prototype had more technical details, the crew figures could not be used. The model was stay without a crew for a whole year from April 2015 to January 2016 and I felt dissatisfied with the result that it was empty and primitive. And when the crew added, the model had its own feature. For example, if it were a Japanese battleship with pagodas, like Kongo, Fuso, Ise, Nagato. On this models, the crew would only interfere with the perception of complex architecture, shapes and details. My friends named these Baltic battleships as "cruise ships" - they don't fight at WWI and crew was relaxed and safe at large empty spaces of upper deck
  2. Thank you Andreas! I want to use North Star Models etched anchor chain But the look of the etched chain didn't satisfy me. In 2015 there were no 3D-printed anchor chains yet, like YX Model chains. In my next models I will use only this chains. Without a crew, the model looked very empty. Battleship Sevastopol is a large barge with 4 gun turrets, 2 funnels and 2 masts without massive superstructure. If we look at photos of the ship at 1915, we can see a lot of people at upper deck
  3. Small review of 2 Gold Medal Model detail sets - Takao detail set, Gold plus Takao set Compare GMM (G) with Flyhawk (F) and Aoshima (A)
  4. Building photos Prepare for primer and painting Painting Weathering the deck by MIG and AK washes Resin officers and sailors from North Star Models sets for Russian Empire Fleet Andrew SilverGhost
  5. This is my first serious model after my comeback to hobby after 7 years without models. Twenty years I built models of airplanes, and one time I decided to build ships. The model of battleship Sevastopol is built at the moment of the end of construction near Baltic shipyard wall at first two weeks of September 1914. As the main detail set, I used a North Star Models detail set for Sevastopol. In addition to him I used different etched and resin aftermarket detail sets: · Master 1/350 gun barrels set for Sevastopol-class battleships · North Star Models 1/350 long ladders · North Star Models 1/350 clamp-ladders · North Star Models 1/350 resin lifebuoys · 3 sets Flyhawk Model 1/350 IJN Brass Strip · Rainbow 1/700 Fixing rings of flues · Complect ZIP 1/350 resin six-rope whaleboat · Complect ZIP 1/350 resin 76-mm Lender AA-guns · Elf 1/72 aviation navigation lights · Begemot 1/350 Russia/USSR decal flags · special decal 1/350 Russian Empire Fleet flags and pennants Figures: · North Star Models 1/350 resin Russian Empire Fleet sailors at work – Part 1 · North Star Models 1/350 resin Russian Empire Fleet sailors at work – Part 2 Scratchbuild and improvements: · boat booms · flagpoles and jackstaff · ventilation pipes near anchor hawses · yards and platforms at foremast · steam engine speed indicators at foremast halyards · correct bow, rudder and propellers · forward garbage chutes · boxes for signal flags at aft superstructure · flagpoles at motor boats · air shafts for officer wardroom · ladders for crew at boat booms · relocate 3 forward pairs of booms for anti-torpedo net · made holes at motor boat funnels and funnel pipes · imitation of glass at windows at main bridge made by Microscale Liquid Decal Film · rigging made using by fiber of Spandex thread (analog of Infini lycra) · insulator at rigging made using by thickened paint Paint and weathering: · Gunze Sangyo Mr. Color paints · Gunze Sangyo Mr. Color semi-gloss lacquer · MIG neutral wash · AK Interactive Wash for deck · Waterline made using by Aizu Micron 1 mm masking tape Work on the model began in early 2014 and ended at the end of 2015. Total number of details - more than 2000: 292 plastic parts from initial kit, 753 parts from North Star Models detail set, 162 resin parts, 515 etched parts from over detail sets and 295 scratchbuild parts/details. This model took part in NAVIGA shipmodelling championships and cups from 2015 to 2019 in Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany and Bulgaria. The best result was 2nd place at European Championship 2017 Andrew SilverGhost
  6. Japan is a very complex country and nation - Whatever you do, you will always be only a Gaijin/Gaikokujin So, I can be only a friend for japanese modellers/historians Aoshima is not a japanese icon. So, I can't be a "persona non grata"
  7. Review of Aoshima Ironclad 1/350 Takao RETAKE detail up parts Instruction Compare with Flyhawk F - Flyhawk A - Aoshima 1. Flyhawk (FH) crane is better than Aoshima (A). But A crane is more simple in assemble. 2. FH railings are more better than A. But A railings have correct step of racks 3. FH davits are more better than A. 4. FH ladders are much correct than A ladders. A ladders have incorrect Handrails. 5. FH imitation of corrugated flooring at turning plates for seaplane carriages is more correct than A 6. FH seaplane carriages are more better than A. But they have strange proportions 7. A rails for seaplane carriages are more better than FH. 8. A seaplane propellers made more interesting than FH. And 4 big advantages of Aoshima detail sets 1. Aoshima made correct Railings at funnels. FH made them incorrectly. And Aoshima's railings are more simple in assembling 2. Aoshima made window bindings at bridges. FH don't made these details 3. Aoshima made details inside funnels. FH don't made these details 4. Aoshima made imitation of corrugated flooring at the deck at stern. And review of old Aoshima Ironclad 1/350 Chokai 1942 etched parts In general, it is useless, except for etched corrugated aft deck
  8. I think, I will install only a half of this set. Only correct half of set Because another half of this set will be replaced by another PE/resin sets from over manufactures
  9. Continue posting photos of Flyhawk Takao detail set Overall view of details 14 PE plates, 23 resin sets, 12 brass sets. 1459 PE parts, 251 resin parts, 241 brass parts Total - 1951 12.7cm AA-gun Type 89. like Veteran clone Resin parts Ammunition boxes, 25-mm shell boxes, 6-cm, 8-cm, 12-cm binoculars, binoculars with signal lamps, binoculars with infrared transmitters, searchlight directors, searchlights, 25-mm AA guns and some over parts. 25-mm AA-guns should be replaced by Veteran AA-guns. They are much better. Brass parts 203-mm and 25-mm gun barrels, bollards, 3 types of cable reels, 25-mm AA-guns stands, 4 types of deck ventilators and voice pipes. Brass deck ventilators should be replaced by resin North Star Models deck ventilators for Takao.
  10. current state of work in progress Preview of my Takao drawings. Details of superstructure need improvement, but portholes are all done
  11. I need to make new hawses and draw Atago drawings (9 drawings - 1932, 1939-1941, late 1944 and portside, straboard, topside). And finish editing scans of literature and 3D (Kagero and Japanese 3D) Last weekend I draw 3 new Takao portside drawings (1932, 1939-1941, late 1944) using Skulsky's starboard drawings on Takao and my photoalbums In Anatomy we can see only starboard and topside drawings
  12. Yesterday, I got from Ebay Flyhawk detail set for Takao. My impressions are still very positive. I will replace handrails at funnels - they are wrong The correct handrails are only given in Aoshima/Ironclad detail set I take a photos of the resin parts later Almost all resin are similar Veteran resin But 25 mm Type 96 machine guns are made very simple. They should be replaced with machines from the Veteran. But 5 Veteran resin sets (3 single sets, 1 twin, 1 triple) with 25-mm machine guns are cost similar to these Flyhawk big detail set ~110$
  13. Wing ailerons, stabilizers and rudder were fixed with bamboo boards to prevent damage from the effects of waves and wind when the seaplane was storaged at catapult or deck near the side of ship. For example - Kawanishi E7K2 Alf at catapult of training cruiser IJN Kashii at Singapoore at first half of 1942 And Aichi E13A1 Jake at seaplane transport Kamikawa-Maru at February 1943 near Aleutian islands (Kiska, Attu)
  14. It's idea! This is 5 Yen coin I think Dai has similar 1 Yen coin Next model battleship-carrier Ise 1/700
