1:200 Revell North Cormorant Oil Rig
Housesparrow replied to Kallisti's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
When I was about 14 y.o, we had a class for modeling scale models at school. I remember one of the other guys was building this kit.- 131 replies

Looks great! And expensive. (Btw, I think I saw a HEMTT w. a patriot battery on ebay, but it was costly.) Artistically, I think a non skewed runway pattern would look better for these items though.

In 'Indiana Jones, Raiders of the lost Ark, there is nazi propeller plane in it, does anyone know if that plane existed for real? Ah, with the help of this guy below, I found the kit here: (Super expensive, and it looks like super expensive shipping, yikes) https://starshipmodeler.biz/shop/index.cfm/product/1151_123/bv-38-flying-wing.html

Eduard P-38 Lightning Upgrade Sets (for Academy 1:48)

I wish all kits had wheels split in two like this, will make it so much easier to paint it I suspect. -

Wow! I think that flak gun model ought to have a figure beside it to just off the scale. I thought the flak gun barrels would look as small like a tiger tank barrel, but they seem huge. -
AMK 1:48 Super Etendard - on hold. Do you still want it?

Like with mosts kits, it all depends on the price in the end. Even though I consider some models or kits to be "must haves", I am not willing to pay too much for the kit and maybe too much for the shipping either. :| -
My impression is that the vallejo metal paint isn't supposed to be airbrushed on wet-in-wet. With diluted paint, it is going to get wet, I think can promise that. Probably the reason why one is to airbrush it on little by little, with a few seconds to let it dry between the brief passes. Having said that, I am no expert. I think I sent Vallejo en email about this, but they apparently never bothered to reply back.

I am still figuring out how to best apply that black glossy metal primer, but I suggest: Put a lot of thinner in the airbrush cup, and then add a few drops of metal color, make sure you end up with a very diluted solution. The ratio is less important than diluting the solution. Learned this from a youtube video myself. Then when spraying, don't spray as if trying to cover the area good, just go over the surface a couple of times without putting on too much paint on, then wait a few seconds and then repeat. The "misty coat" approach really works, but you have to let the paint dry for a few second before each pass. Here is an image showing the result I got earlier: The primed surface probably has to be as glossy as can be. You can cheat, by adding a gloss varnish, on top of matte black, before spraying on Vallejo metal color. That is what I did with the stand in the photo above here.

Btw, there is apparently photo etch for this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EDUARD-1-35-PE-PHOTO-ETCHED-DETAIL-SET-for-TAKOM-GERMAN-12-8cm-FLAK-40-ZWILLING-/401126831197 -

I think I've seen this on ebay. Was thin twin gun a real thing? I vaguely remember seeing this kit, shown at having some kind of rudimentary base. Couldn't understand if was just to be placed on the ground or perhaps onto some vehicle. Seems maybe like the twin gun is mounted on a rotating base I see now, off some ebay item. Apparently a new tool 2015 kit, from what I am reading on the internet. -
I am excited! Edit: Ooops. I didn't notice the 1:72 scale.

I did not mean to sound difficult. I do have scaled the 3d model to what I think is the correct scale, so I can use a measurement, but really only the large measurements would make sense this way, as additive smaller measurements would have minor errors in them in total on my 3d model for sure.

Star Wars new model kits from Bandai

Hrm, I wish the 1:48 scale X-Wing was a little cheaper. :1 (And I don't like the excessive Bandai stand that apparently comes with Bandai's kit in 1:48 scale) -

Wow, these nice looking models on these stands gave me an idea. Would be fun I think to create a snowy surface, or maybe even a sand themed diorama. -
That would be great. Though I (probably) cannot use measurements in lengths, only angles. I am intrigued by this "42 degree gearbox floor", what does it mean? Sounds like some kind of angle I could use to check for consistency when working on the tail. Btw, iirc, the image posted above is not proprietary material (I once asked for technical drawings from the corporation that makes these helicopters, many years ago, and I wasn't given any), I was only referred to their promotional stuff, who knows why that drawing was made. The image above looks like some of the art they used for their promotional stuff many years back. It would be nice to be able to interpret the drawing I posted. I can only guess what they mean myself.

I am currently in the process of creating a 3D model for Arma 3, and I already have some great details to get me started on both main body and the tail (very accurate), however, it irks me that I don't have a 100% definitive answer for just how high the tail is. I wish I knew. If you think you know this, I would like to know. What I had in mind, is drawing this line from the center of the tail rotor, parallel with the cabin floor, and then, where would that line end up with? Presumably around the main rotor shaft, but how high? Feel free to chime in. Please take into consideration that so so drawings and so called "blueprints" off the internet aren't that accurate. This helicopter is of the type UH-1N, though afaik this heli type also is known as Bell 212 or Bell 412. Not to be confused with the UH-1H, though the tail structure might be similar for all I know. This drawing below, seem to match well what I think is the most accurate lines and proportions, though, I don't have a proper drawing for the rotor mast unfortunately: Iirc, I had to splice the tail onto the main body in the image shown above, so the angle of the tail might be off slightly. Hm, now that I look at this, it seems perhaps that the tail rotor shaft isn't a straight line in the image above, might be indicative of the tail being rotated wrong, or there is perhaps a joint there between the body and the tail part.

Revell 1/72 UH-1H Iroquois 'Huey'
Housesparrow replied to Smudge's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
The open windows are a nice touch I think. The rotor blade colors have me fascinated. I am working on a UH-1N heli model in 3D, and one of the skins are to be similar to the heli seen in the movie Predator, there the rotors seem to be white, with black bands. Btw, if you want to build a UH-1N in 1:72 scale, it looks like maybe the Fujimi kit is decent. I have a Revell kit (iirc), but the nose shape is obviously wrong, will have to sand it back into correct shape. An interesting observation I have made, which is also seen on this heli model of yours, is that the center wall on the rear cabin, is actually slanted. Hehe I also learned that the two "handles" on the tail, are antennas, and not handles. It even says "do not push" on them. -
I am confused. How big is this model?

Which wire rigging product, for 1:48 aircraft wire?
Housesparrow replied to Housesparrow's topic in Other Tools
Sounds nice I'll check it out. The important part if ofc to get the correct scale for this stuff, can't be too thin.
