  1. Or were they removed to lighten the plane? I am planning to build Williamson's "4A" as at Taranto. Greeting, Richard
  2. Will we get to see a build report? I am curious about the brown/blue reece version. Richard
  3. Were the bracing wires painted the color of the surface they stood on? If so, did the color change vertically above a color separation line on the wing? Or were they paired a uniform color, if so, which? TIA, Richard P.S.: What is your experience with the Tamiya photo-etched bracing wires? Easy-peasy or PITA?
  4. Was that the inspiration for the Mistel composite?
  5. My tin ran out, all 3 continental suppliers are out of stock. Which enamel paint would you use in an emergency to replace Colourcoats AP507C? Richard (Had posted this on Ships-WWII board, before realizing it's better placed here.)

  7. US planes strafed a VVS airbase in Vladivostok? And no one started WWIII?
  8. Ketley & Rolfe, in "Luftwaffe Embleme 1939 -1945" write on p. 45 (German edition) that the shield color for II/KG 26 was red, and yellow for III/KG 26 (both with a black, sitting, lion). The color illustration on p.54 has it the other way around: yellow shield for II. Gruppe, and red for III. Gruppe. I am confused, possibly lost in translation. Richard
  9. Well, 4 at least. Jerry Crandall and the team Deboeck/Larger/Poruba did two volumes each, covering the same ground and arriving at (mildly?) different interpretations. Richard
  10. https://members.boardhost.com/1250scale/msg/1589904081.html can you id the ships? Richard
  11. Failed to buy it when in print. Now that Amazon wants 340 Euros for it .... I'll have to hope for a reprint
  12. Günther Rall, "Mein Flugbuch", p. 126 has a photo of "black 13" dated to September 1942. Visible is the port side from the fixed canopy aft to the middle of the Balkenkreuz. Details visible (to me): mottling under canopy, more uniform dark color aft; "Black 13" with white outline, top of "3" slightly overlapping the fuel triangle. Balkenkreuz while outline, probably empty. Gratz, Rall and Wachowiak are standing in front of the plane, obviously blocking view of same. Unfortunately that does not answer any of your questions, does it? Richard
  13. Thank you for the reference! Will search for the book in my disorganized bookshelf. Richard
  14. Steve, could you point me towards the thread you mentioned? Richard
  15. as in this photo: https://www.asisbiz.com/il2/He-111/KG26/pages/Heinkel-He-111H6-6.KG26-(1H+GP)-Italy-1942-01.html 1) is the radio mast a lighter color then RLM 70, or not? 2) how far back does the light (I will go with a lightened yellow) color on the engine cowls extend? All the way to the wing root, or just the engine panels? 3) Do you know of a source for the "yellow G" decal to go on the wing leading edge? (as on the leading edge of the next plane, "1H+KP") 4) in color interpretations this plane is universally shown carrying torpedoes. In the photo it's carrying a bomb. What is the "proof" for the torpedo? TIA, Richard; not looking forward to installing the undercarriage on the Monogram kit.
  16. in particular for the He111? The decals will sit on a coat of glossy Xtracolor enamels. TIA, Richard
  17. Gentlemen, thank you so much for your input! Mountbatten pink it will be, a perfect solution because I am out of AP507C, and the stuff is pretty much unobtainable here in Austria. On top of that, Gabriela is going to love a pink ship. Richard
  18. What book did you find the photo in? I like the informative text. Richard
  19. Mr. Langtree, in "The Kellys", writes that Kipling was in overall AP507C from April - May 28 1941, pennant number black. (p. 52) The photo on p. 116 shows Kipling entering Alexandria harbor on 24 May 1941. To my untrained eye she is in a rather dark color - lot darker than my idea of AP507C; the net layer Protector, just behind her, is much lighter: if Kipling was in 507C, what was Protectors color? Can AP507C look that dark in a photo taken under Mediterranean sun? Long story short: what was Kiplings color on that date? TIA, Richard
  20. On the cover of Bernd Barbas "Das vergessene As" you will find a color photo of Barkhorn's Bf109F-4 with an all-yellow nose, toned down on the uppers. In the background is another Bf with yellow cowl. Photo is dated to July 1942. https://www.luftfahrtverlag-start.com/books/luftwaffe/ scroll down to the 3rd book "The forgotten Ace" Great book, by the way! Richard
  21. Shores & Thomas, in "2nd TAF, Vol2", p. 639, say "On some aircraft the large National Marking I on the upper wing surface was replaced by a smaller, fuselage sized National Marking III". The two photos showing the upper wing roundels of Tempests in the book (p. 672, 674) are post war. How widespread were "fuselage sized" roundels on upper wings late war? My plan is to build NV 641, the Tempest Brooker was lost in. Is there any evidence for roundel size on that particular plane, or is it a free for all? TIA, Richard
  22. Mike, I built the kit as an USN plane. Color notes for depth charges and rockets would be very interesting, if you can find them w/o spending too much time. Richard
  23. Finn, thank you for the link. It does answer all the questions. Much appreciated! Richard
  24. Did/could TBM/TBF-3s on anti-submarine missions carry rockets AND depth charges or either rockets OR depth charges? What color were the depth charges? How were the depth charges mounted in the bomb bay? The Accurate Miniatures instructions are not helpful on this point. TIA, Richard
  25. Pentland, in "RAAF Camouflage & Markings", p.45, calls for light green (mixed locally from "six parts of cockpit green and one part white") and dark green, with a green spinner and pink elephant The new Barracuda Cals decal sheet calls for standard Ocean Grey/dark green camouflage (stating the two-tone green pattern had been proved wrong), blue spinner ad grey elephant. So there are two very distinct interpretations. Which one do I follow?
