  1. I'm definitely enjoying reading all the ship builds. It's quite rare to get more than 1 at my local model club meeting so this is a nice change.
  2. Build a ship - that subject seems to be on a roll during this particular build.
  3. Some progress. The nice thing about ship models is that you don't have interior detail to add or paint. Makes assembly a bit faster - for now anyway. I'm sure the railings will slow me down. So far it's gone together really nicely - chalk that up to being a Tamiya kit I suppose. Sub-assemblies done, ready to start putting the superstructure on. Guns....lots of guns....
  4. re the Wellington - I keep thinking of the "newish" Airfix Wellington that is a rebox of the MPM kit, but having checked out a couple of reviews - opinion seems mixed. Would be tough competition from Trumpeter's version though.
  5. I do have to agree on the Buccaneer - seems like another fairly obvious subject (British, not widely available). I think they'd easily sell enough to recoup costs. Ju-88 has appeared a few times (Revell, Hasegawa, Italeri), but a fully detailed 72nd version would still be quite popular IMO. They could do some interesting stuff with a full BoB set if they had one (Spitfire, Hurricane, Defiant, Me-109, He-111, Do-17, Ju-88) - or some variations on their dogfight doubles
  6. I think most of us would agree that Airfix has done a wonderful job of updating many of their classic kits with new tool versions. Everything from the Gnat, He-111, Beaufighter, Blenheim, Defiant to numerous Spitfires and 109s, to the upcoming B-17G and Provost. With that in mind, and assuming that this policy will likely continue, what kits do you believe Airifx is likely to (or should) take from their dim dark past and re-tool for the modern age. My initial picks would be: 1 - Dornier 217-E With most of the other "Battles over Britain" subjects done, IMO this has to be a hot pick for a release soon. Of course, they could release the 217 as a family, allowing this beauty to make a comeback as well 2 - Avro Anson Who wouldn't want a modern, detailed tooling of the Anson in 1/72. And imagine how good a follow-on scaled-up release in 1/48 could be. 3 - Whirlwind I'm actually surprised that, given the rarity of kits in any scale (Trumpeter 48 aside), that Airfix hasn't done one already. I don't know if there would be enough marking options to warrant a 48th version versus the Trumpeter release, but a 72nd would have to be a goer. Anyway - interested to hear other people's thoughts.
  7. My first new build for the year and my first build on this forum. I haven't built a ship in ages - so this group build coincided nicely with one of the few ships in my stash. I'll be building pretty much OOB, though some photo-etch railing have been ordered for it - never tried those before so it will be a leaning experience too
