  1. Hi Dave,

Just wanted to show my appreciation of your wonderful model the 1/48 Mistercraft Sopwith F1 Camel, I think it looks lovely and quite understand your comment about Mistercraft kits, I made their 1/72 Curtiss Hawk 75, the kits plastic was terrible, but, the decals I had worked well.  However, I think the hard work is for all to see in above. :goodjob:

    Hi Martijn,

I can't decide if I like this plane. The plane, not your model which is splendid as usual. I think it's the fact that from the side it looks like a fast jet but from above the lack of any swept wing suggests it's a slow plane. All very confusing IMO.

Nice cockpit decals. Are those the decals supplied with the kit? I must say the fit around the cockpit is exceptional!

What size is the model? I'm imagining it's quite small.

Colin, I'm going to have to check out some of this Gorilla Super Glue Gel. I think they sell it in B&Q too.

    Cheers,

    Ian

Yes worth checking out after I had disappointment using normal super glue, regards Colin.

I love it when I have to google an aircraft because I'd never heard of it.

Cool little model! How did this Kora kit go together? I think injection moulded plastic kits is a new venture for them?

Thank you for your kind comments, I enjoyed building this kit very much.

Yes as I said, it's injection molded plastic + resin details and a vacuum formed canopy.  The kit went together with little fuss, the plastic was attached to the runners with a quite thick ejector(?) pins and a good quality razor saw was used to remove them, the plastic was soft and easy to work with and responded well to being filed to remove the ejector (?) pins from the runners.  The model needed a little filler where the fuselage joins and is easily sanded back with wet wet n dry paper till it's smooth.  I then brush painter with Humbrol 56 in two layers both thinned by dipping my brush in good quality white spirit before putting the paint on.  I recommend this kit for more experienced modeller.  Recently KORA kits have been appearing in this format, previously they were resin offerings.  Hope the above is helpful ?  Regards Colin.

  4. Please find posted below my completed model of the Curtiss Wright SNC-1 Falcon in 1/72b y KORA Models, I finally got use my Sierra Scale Decals sheet that I have had in the stash for a very long time.

The kit is of mixed media (i.e: IM Plastic for main details + parts, plus resin details and a vacuum formed canopy x 2 copies - Thank goodness and a decal sheet plus a mask set for the wing walks)

I thoroughly enjoyed building this kit, it requires a lot of patience, dry fitting - but, no fit problems encountered, just a little filler here and there.  I will be building more kits from this range.

I hope you all like it.

    Thanks!

Well yes and no, I've found the best way is to man handle them and fix it with super glue. Then I bend the struts so that it all lines up with the landing gear, it's a bit heavy handed but as long as it looks right I'm not too worried.

I do do sometimes tack them with super glue then use tamiya extra thin for a stronger bond.

this one marks the end of the recent flurry for now :( but there are lots of builds on my site from the SIG members so do please have a look if it's of interest 👍

Thank you very much for your advice on how to build the struts on this model, much appreciated.  And I will being looking at the link too, regards Colin.

Frankly speaking Finland should be treated as "very WHIF" user of Łoś. At least 4 other countries were much closer to reality.

90 aircraft with twin-row GR14N radials have been ordered in PZL to be delivered in 1940-41 to Rumania (30), Turkey (25), Yugoslavia (20) and Bulgaria (15).

Finland, Denmark and Estonia were just "interested in purchase" with no formal order as for September 1939.

Several months earlier (1938) the Belgian Renard company was negotiating licence production rights for Pegasus-powered Łoś (to be ordered in Belgium by Republican Spain), but SCW has ended before the contract was ready to be signed and thus Renard withdrew from the idea.

    Cheers

    Michael,

Thank you very much for answering my post and for the additional information regarding the ordered PZL-Los, most interesting.

    Best regards

    Colin.

In fact Romania was main user of Łoś - they collected all remaining in Poland after campaign of September '39 and then they used them for many years, even after WWII.

Jerzy, thank you very much for the information I was unaware of that fact, now I know!

Could you or Michael please clarify if Finland actually used any as I have seen artwork for the PZL Los in Finish colors.

    Thank you Colin.

Main user for the usage period - yes (in Poland this was just a year). But not for the quantity - of more than a hundred built and almost a hundred comissioned by the Air Force only some 30% survived the combined German/Russian onslaught. According to the Rumanian sources exactly 30 PZL-37s were flown intact to Rumania in September and eight of them were reduced to the "source of parts" on 14th December 1939. Remaining 22 are known to bear Rumanian serial nos. 201...222.

The only Polish aircraft that Rumania can be hands-down called "main user of" are the gull-wing P.11/P.24 fighters. Rumanian AF has flown 191 P.11s and 30 P.24 (Poland had only 205 P.11s and no P.24s) of the 566 built.

    Cheers

    Michael

Michael, thank you very much for your information and additional information about the PZL P.11 and P.24.

    Best regards Colin.

    Colin, many thanks.

There are many experts on BM. I can only tell what I am usually doing. First is to watch photos to see the pattern of paint degradation, simply where bare metal is seen and how big are those spots, hpw they look like. Tchniclly - I am doing those bare metal points using very thin ("00") brush and rather dense (not diluted) silver, in my case it us usually humbrol 191 (sometime 11 or even 56)

    Regards

    W,

Hi Jerzy, many thanks for your reply and advice - I will try this method when I have built the kit, regards Colin.
