  1. Thank you for your comments gentlemen.
  2. I remember sitting in that Hind on my last detachment in the RAF at Kbely.
  3. Thanks for the comments. I put the Serial No on the ventral fins as they would normally have been on the lower fin, so as this was taken up with the main design I thought that the lower fins were the next best place especially as the numbers were in yellow. A little progress has been made with the painting of the weaponry and the wheelie things.
  4. We never had a zap that big, but we did manage to get a few aircraft. Nice build by the way, it certainly does look different especially the huge fish on the fin.
  5. Being at Wyton from 1981 to 1987 I heard these things scream over my room in the block must be every night, with the distinct whine that the J79 engines used to make. I don't know why but they always seem to fly over in pairs. A friend of mine and I also found a back gate to Alconbury and would often go there to watch and photograph what was going on. Brings back good memories.
  6. You are indeed correct. The RAF were thinking of trying to get some of these from the German Navy at the time of the Gulf War for low level refuelling but it did not get very far.
  7. The finished results can be seen here. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=55490
  8. That looks good to me. For the lost pitot tube, it can be replaced by using either a sewing pin or needle.
  9. This is the Sea King ASaC Mk7 that I started as part of the Gulf War GB. I have finished the model as XV650 which was part of 849 NAS operating from HMS Ark Royal during Op Telic. This aircraft collided with XV704 on the 22nd March 2003 killing all on board, which brought a sad mood to the ships company. The model is the Revell Sea King HAS6/AEW kit with a few add ons from the newly released Airfix Sea King. The deflated radome is from Airwaves, with the decals coming from both kits (with the Airfix ones being very good) and the Aviation Workshop Sea King sheet. The rotor folding was done by myself, and although I don't think that I got the angles quite right I am very pleased with the result. Any comments are very welcome.
  10. I now have all the decals applied to the model as the following pictures show. I have added a close up of the tail and nose markings which show another Sqn based at RAF Leuchars has zapped this aircarft. Hopefully I will weather this one a little and apply some varnish this week before I start to add things like the U/C and other smaller parts.
  11. XW665 was known as the Grey Lady on 51 Sqn, and did not get painted to the Hemp colour scheme until early 1982 after she had been on major at RAF Kinloss.
  12. The Aviation Workshop book On Target Special No1 "Operation Telic" RAF jets in Operation Iraqi Freedom has a fair few photos of Tornado F3s.
  13. We must have past like ships in the night some days. If you can remember a RAF SNCO with moustache and sidies all joined together, that was me.
  14. An update on how this model is going has been added to the Aircraft in progress section.
  15. A quick update on what has been happening with this model. The decalling is now all finished and a matt coating has been applied. I have started to add some of the smaller bits, and also started on the dreaded bit of folding the rotors. Hopefully this will be finished in about a weeks time.
  16. I have now started to put the decals onto this one. I have got the majority of the bigger ones on, just a few more to put on when I have decided where they are to go. I have also managed to match up the yellow decal colour with a paint so the the stripe on the fin can now go all the way to the rear of the fin ( the decal didn't quite stretch that far). I have now got to find a lot of smaller detail decals from other sheets in stock that will be suitable for this model. I am trying as hard as I can not to use the kit ones as these are for an American painted aircraft not a British painted one. I have also started on making up the wizz bangs that will be hung off the pylons.
  17. A company called Golden Dragon productions, which has now changed its name to SuperBug models, do make a cockpit set for the EA-6B, but I am told it is a bit hit and miss/
  18. I have now moved this to the Iarcraft In Progress section, but I will post pictures of the finished model also in this section.
  19. This model was started as part of the Gulf War GB, and the progress up to today can be seen here. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=51570 I have now put on all the decals that I need apart from the rotors and have carried out some weathering. The decals were a mixture of the kit ones plus some from the Airfix kit, which were very good indeed. I will be putting on a coat of matt varnish in the coming week, and hopefully start putting the rest of the bits onto the model.
  20. The main painting is now been done with a few touch ups to be carried out. The last photo shows some markings that I picked up last weekend from the Avon show, which hopefully will be fitted onto the fin with a little adjustment here and there, with possibly some extra yellow from some other decal sheets that I have. I have also started to put together the weapons and fuel tanks that will be fitted.
  21. Nice photos. Also good to see that the Mk3 Chinooks are now on the air show circuit.
  22. The two that collided were not AEW Mk2s but ASaC.7 aircraft. I am building one of these in 1/72nd as a tribute and progress can be seen in the Gulf War GB.
