  1. That's actually a CR3.......it has the new Rhienmettal smoothie gun........Not yet in service......known as the digital challenger.
  2. Welcome back to the fold. I myself have had a rekindling of modelling madness having had a sabbatical over the last few years. Slipping gently in to the realms of auto modelling again but using a lot of different tools and techniques from those i previously used. Learnt to embrace today's technological advances in paint etc rather than clinging on to the old ways of doing things. Having time to sit back quietly observing the way things are changing gives one an edge of sorts. A new career for me has also given me more available cash to use on furnishing this great hobby of ours with what it needs but unfortunately still a bit time starved. Once again welcome and enjoy. Dave
  3. I've never had such an insulting post aimed at me, utterly disrespectful and uncalled for. I shall withdraw from replying to this post and in fact I shall withdraw from replying to any post on here or any other forum. I thought that being on this forum would put me among friends and allies who are full of meaningful and friendly advice, I was obviously wrong. I shall be deleting my membership from this forum forthwith and go back to how I've always done, make my own errors and make my own new ways of doing things without sharing my experiences to a wider audience. Thank you however to all those who have made me more than welcome here and took the time to furnish me with sound advice. All the best in the your futures no matter where they take you. Dave
  4. 'Tosh' or not, its science....fact. I had my mistake experience many years ago as far as paint reaction goes, yes paint technology has moved apace but nonetheless acrylics will always react with oils. Giving advice suchas yours to someone who is asking for genuine advice is just setting them up to fail. I imagine that you have been very lucky not to have one of your projects ruined through naivety or bad advice.
  5. You can't use acrylics over enamel the acrylic reacts with the oil in the enamel, its great if you want a crackle glaze effect but no good for a car body etc. However, you can apply enamel over acrylic without a reaction. What happens is the oil takes an age to harden in the enamel and basically it's forever present, then you chuck acrylic at it which contains water and the oil does its best to disperse the water taking the pigment with it, the water evaporates and leaves that nasty baked earth effect all over your paint job. So its, enamel over acrylic not acrylic over enamel. All the best, Dave Also, yes gloss enamel does turn colours yellow, affecting whites more than anything, If youre going to go over to acrylic then use a rattle car clear lacquer to give the shine you require and for healths sake still use a face mask to prevent breathing in any nasties.
  6. Me too, I'm definitely going to try this. Thanks for sharing your idea with us. Dave
  7. Ok thanks for that Roy, much appreciated. I shall follow your lead, that way nothing can go wrong! ! No pressure on you! Cheers Dave
  8. Roy, do you use a lacquer on your finishes? I've just treated myself to a micromesh craft kit from Hiroboy (although the kits are available from other sources i.e little cars etc), seems very good at getting rid of the specks of dust that were bugging me previously on my enamel paint jobs which is a godsend, but is it any good on acrylic paint? All the best, Dave
  9. Looks great in black, did you have any issues with the stripes? I'm still undecided, I did purchase a rattle can of acrylic ford melina blue but I think it will need a lacquer to give it a shine, but by the time I get to the lacquer stage I would have used satin black enamel on the front and rear splitters and lower rocker panels and I know that acrylic reacts with enamel but not vice a versa. Suppose I could use a enamel varnish to give the gloss but I would have to mask up all the clear bits first (lot of hassle and tape!) Not sure which way to go on this. This is the hardest part of this kit.......deciding which colour and which medium! Other than that it's a dream of a model to build.
  10. I've had a female moment and changed my mind, going to make life a bit easier for myself and do my stang in gloss black, most people seem to finish theirs in either grabber blue, kona blue or red, don't see many finished in black. I know it seems as though I'm skirting the issue of paint colours etc, but with a model this size a incorrect paint shade would stand out like the proverbial sore thumb! thanks anyway, all the best, Dave
  11. Hi all, I'm building revells excellent 2010 Shelby GT500 and I'm ready to start applying paint to the body, thing is I don't know which blue to use, I'm after replicating the dark metallic blue known as Kona blue on the full size vehicle, I'm using humbrol enamels through an airbrush (suitably thinned!). Does anybody know what colours are available and if I have to mix colours, to what proportion should I mix them? Looking forward to seeing your inputs, kind regards, Dave
  12. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! This is one of those builds that you just can't help but keep on looking at and every time you look you see something different, something that inspires, something that stands out about this creation between human and manufactuered plastic almost mysterious. This model personifies the real aircraft perfectly and also makes the onlooker want to go out and purchase this kit and have a go at reaching the dizzy heights of perfection that this model and its builder has achieved. Most of us can only dream and look on with envy! Congrats on a beautiful build and thank you for sharing it with us. Dave
  13. You're doing well, these older mouldings from our beloved Airfix do test our patience at times, but with determination and some choice words a good result is achievable. Looking forward to seeing the finished result soon All the best, Dave
  14. The fit is fairly good jusjay, the seam lines do need some tidying up especially around the bottom of the rear fuselage, its flat ish there but the seams kind of flair upwards slightly, so needs flattening out slightly. Its a pretty good kit to build, just keep an eye on the alignments as you go.
  15. Brilliant, love it, a totally different form of diorama subject and very nicely done. How about........"Lock and Load"? "One mans rubbish is another mans treasure"? "On yer bike"? "Steptoes legacy"? "Rich pickings"? "Operation clear up"? probably not great suggestions but the best I can think of for the mo! Hope you get more suggestions from the peeps on here. All the best, Dave
  16. Thanks for all your help peeps, you have all been a great help. The problem with dust is a tricky one and one that l think can only be resolved after it happens to land on the paint as long that its not too much! I'm just finishing off my Revell 1/25 68 Dodge Charger, which is the one I was having a problem with dust on the paint, I managed to get a reasonable result after giving it a light rub down and re shooting the paint but using the advice given to me on here. I'm hoping to post some pics on here possibly over the weekend of my latest creation (Dodge Charger), it's my first car model since 1983, my first ever American muscle car and the first time that I've ever put a model out there for all to see! Thanks again for all your replies. Dave
  17. Lovely jubbly, really nice, don't see many of these completed, particularly to such a high standard.
  18. Nice one mate, you've done a spectacular job, I love Hawks...............you can never have too many Hawks..............Spitfires............Hunters...........models...........never too much of anything really!
  19. What a corker, beautiful and very very impressive. Loving it.
  20. Always considered the GR3 to be the best looking Harrier of all alongside the Sea Harrier FRS1 much nicer looking than the FA2! You've done a great job, very impressive and thanks for sharing it with us all. All the best, Dave
  21. Roy, please excuse my dumbness when I asked you about the Aston and whether it was a kit etc, I hope I didn't insult you in any way. I can see that you are obviously a master craftsman and turn out masterpieces that we all can only aspire to. I'm adoring your work and will follow your builds with eagerness and inspiration. Thanks for sharing your skills with us. Dave
  22. You're right kp, I'm over worrying, think I set my sights too high, I've had so many rubbishy paint jobs in the past working with inferior tools etc, that now I have what I've always wished for, i.e modelling room, booth, airbrush etc, it makes almost fearful off creating a disastrously bad paint job, might need to get back to basics!
  23. My goodness Roy how on earth did you get a finish like that and especially outside, I mean how come the fly population on a nice day were not attracted to a nice glossy sticky suface? P.S what scale is that Aston, who makes it, where do you get one from and how much? Also what colour is that? Dave.
  24. Thanks krow113, never thought of misting myself and an especially good idea for misting the booth considering as the booth is plastic and has an electric fan whirring away behind the filter screen, all this is going to cause a certain amount of static I guess......a dust magnet! Thanks for the great suggestions one and all.
