  1. Hi, Glad you like the XI. The chin was relatively easy. I got a side profile of both a mk IX and a mk XI and scaled them to 1/72 that gave me a correct nose profile. I made a plastic card former of the correct profile and glued this to the centre line of the nose and then added milliput which I shaped to the correct profile. Here it is in construction the broader chord rudder and belly tank are from a Hasegawa mk VIII. Cheers Plasto
  2. Hi, Here is my Airfix Male tank. As you may know the Airfix kit is a bit of an amalgam of Differing marks of Male tank but is nominally a mark 1 I think. I did a bit of work to portray a machine in a later scheme. The base is home made. Painted in Tamiya Acrylics... Thanks for looking Cheers Plasto
  3. Hi, Here is my Airfix Matilda on a small scenic base of my own construction.. I don't build much Armour so forgive me if its a bit rubbish. The kit is very nice. I mixed the Caunter Colours following advice in a thread somewhere or other the paints are Tamiya Acrylics. The base is just a bit of Garden Dirt stuck to a piece of wood with a plaster covering. The Barbed Wire Pickets are just Fuse wire.. Thanks for looking.. Cheers Plasto
  4. Hi, Thank you for all the kind words on my build. I enjoy painting NMF aircraft and Alclad is a great product to use. Thanks again.. Plasto..
  5. Hi, The Griffon Rads from the XIX kit are deeper than the Merlin Rads from the IXc. IIRC the Griffon rads fitted to the IXc wing with no issues. Converting the XIX 'wet' wing to take the smaller Merlin rads requires that you chop off the moulded on alignment plugs its then a straightforward fit for the Merlin rads to fit the 'wet' wing. Here an underside shot of the XI conversion and the XIVc for illustrative purposes.. HTH Plasto
  6. Hi, Thanks for the kind words. Getting the wing to fit wasn't that tricky... I chopped off bits from the XIX wing and positioned carefully. It basically took a 6" steel rule a razor saw and a bit of milliput. The good thing is the bits left over can make a PR XI with a bit of Fettling... Cheers Plasto
  7. Hi, Here is my attempt at a Spitfire XIVc. It uses the Fuselage of the recent Airfix Spitfire XIX and the wing of the recent Spitfire IXc. Exhausts are resin quick boost items and the cannon barrels are brass from Master. Decals from the xtradecal D Day sheet from last year. Painted with Tamiya Acrylics.. Thanks for looking Plasto..
  8. Hi, Here is my F-104 Starfighter. The Kit is the Esci F-104 G/S the original decals were shot so I used some after market replacements and a Pitot from Master. The model is painted is a few differing shades of Alclad. Which is the main reason I did this finish as a bit of a practice. Thanks for looking.. Plasto..
  9. Hi, Thanks for the kind words and feed back. Most of the weathering on the Spitfire is achieved with a brush and water colour pencil. Basically once painted and declare and with the surface flatted back appropriately I give the whole model a 'filter wash' of very highly thinned oil paint in this case a brown colour. The filter pulls the colours together and gives a bit of a used look. A bit more black oil paint was used for oil stains and finally paint wear was depicted with a Karisma silver water colour pencil. The kit is very good I think the only issue is you need to take care fitting the fuselage halves together around the instrument panel as its a little tight a swipe with a sending stick on the IP sorts that out. The panel lines might be a little heavy for some so use washes etc with caution. Have fun an HTH Plasto...
  10. Hi, Thanks for the kind words. I don't have a YT channel. I think you may be getting me confused with 'Plasmo' who has an excellent YT channel full of inspiring builds. Cheers Plasto...
  11. Thanks for the kind words on the Spitfire , and on the photography... Much appreciated.. Cheers Plasto..
  12. Thank you for the kind words and welcome. Much appreciated.. Cheers Plasto
  13. Thank you. Yes 16 Sqn moved around a bit and operated off some pretty rudimentary airstrips in the Solomons. My build depicts the Aircraft at Green Island before the Sqn moved to Jacquinot Bay Pat, I dont do anything really special . The paint is Acrylic which I sprayed and added a good bit of post shading to differing panels. I've then modulated that all back with a coat of very thin lightened base colour ( I thin with Lacquer thinners) once dry and a coat of varnish is on I added a filter wash of oils then a spot filter on some panels. then a sealing coat of varnish then I added some pastels ground into the surface to replicate coral dust from the airstrip, and finally some fuel stains and gun cordite staining. I also used the 'hairspray' technique to add a bit of paint wear on the cowl and wings and the Drop tank. It Sounds a lot but it's not really. I think if you keep the weathering appropriate to the likely wear of the subject then thats a good a rule as any.. Thank you Alan.. I agree Dave Holmwood's website is very interesting and useful when it comes to RNZAF types... Cheers Plasto
  14. Hi, Here is my MiG-3. I did a bit of additional work in the cockpit and added a bit of riveting. Nice kit which is straightforward to build. Thank you for looking.. Cheers Plasto
  15. Hi, The canopy seal is a very thin strip of suitably painted tape. I have some Japanese masking tape which is a bit thinner than Tamiya Tape and much sticker so much so that using it for masking on a painted surface is asking for trouble. I used that and sealed with some gunze clear. The Gnat is a nice kit the intakes and the fit of the wing assembly at the back are the main things that need sorting. HTH Plasto
  16. Hi, The decals are out of the spares box I think they were left over from a Heller Hurricane kit. The Aircraft represents a Thunderbolt 1 of 135 Sqn Chittagong in 1944. Cheers Plasto
