  1. Hello Christer, Yes, all plastic. But I would advocate use of an aftermarket cowl, as the seam between the 2 separate parts is a royal pain to blend in. I had to use Tamiya light curing putty to prevail in the end! Best, Stéphane
  2. Hello guys, Here is my attempt at he Eduard Spitfire Mk.IX, in the colours of the n°40 Squadron SAAF. Sicily, 1944. She's missing her serial, MK151, will add it later. The Eduard kit builds nicely and easy, except that I somewhat screwd the pouch with landing gear well parts and had an issue with the legs fixture parts. The port side angled camera is scratchbuild. Paints used are Gunze acryls and Xtracrylics for the Azure blue undersides. Hope you'll like her, crits and comments most welcome. Cheers,, stef (#6) (Click images to enlarge)
  3. Hello, À real stunner, absolutely gorgeous ! Stdf (#6)
  4. It's been a while since my last post, that's because I'm a very slow builder ... here is my attempt at making a French Navy Crusader, the complete name is F-8E FN (P). P stand for "Prolongé", prolongated ... New ejection seat, various aerials (one behind the cockpit just went awol during photo session), the new Sherlock threat detector atop tail, Etc. Paints are Gunze acryls, and the lovely Aires Matra 55 Magic missiles. This peticular aircraft saw action during the Yougoslavia CAP operations. Hope you'll like her, all comments and critics most welcome. Best, Stef (#6) Click images to enlarge,
  5. Hello guys, Thanks a bunch, glad you like her . Best, Stef (#6)
  6. Hello gentlemen, It's been a long time i didn't complete anything, but here you are, a F4U-1a Corsair, of VMF 217, in Guam, 1945. Straight from the box except for an Ultracast seat (a little gem) and decals. stars and bars from custom made masks (Thanks a bunch, Fanch ! ) Weathering a bit on the heavy side,it's supposed to render the sun bleech of the Pacific sun and the operational wear .... Hope you'll like it. Best Stef (#6) PS : Click images to enlarge.
  7. Hello Prem , It was Tamiya acryl pink, can't remember the tin reference, but it was lightened with something around 20% white, over white primer. HTH, Best Stéphane
  8. Thanks a bunch, I'm not yet fixed, but the 2 seater is a good candidate. Cheers, Stef (#6)
  9. Hello Jaime, Huh, just so you're informed, the Italeri 1:72 Mirage 2000 wing is completely wrong in shape, being close to the one of the Mirage III. Better try to get the Heller offering, if you can find one. I'm not the rivet counter type, but on this kit the flaw is blatent and do greatly change the overall shape of the bird. Best, Stef (#6)
  10. Hello all, I would gladly and definitely go in that one. Most surely with a Mirage IIIC (HobbyBoss) in 3/10 Vexin markings (Djibuti) or possibly a bashing of the HobbyBoss fuselage and Heller B two seater front ... and a Mirage 2000D (Kinetic/italeri), french of course, don't know yet the squadron., both 1/48. Best, Stef (#6)
  11. Thanks Mirage IV, (BTW, you're a man of taste, the Mirage IV is a Sierra Hotel sexy plane ! ) For the weathering, it's a post shading in black, dark grey, etc, softened with highly diluted veils of the original hue. The leaks on the underside were done using oil paint (burnt sienna), using the dot technique or dry brush with a wide rigid brush .... Again, it's softened with several veils of the original hue. I've a complete online album, if you like to check the various steps in details : F-4J photo album Best, Stef (#6)
  12. Hello , Haven't been around for a while, due to moving house and the ensuing work like floor and painting, fixing odds and bits, you know the drill. I've been re-installing the bench and managed to fin some painting time on the Phantom. Secals are on, some post shading applied, currently under fading ... Stilla good amount of work to be done, but it's moving along ... All comments welcome, as usual ... And I know, I still have to spray some light aircraft grey in these airbrake wells (click images to enlarge) Best Stef (#6)
  13. Aaaah, indeed, the speedbrakes wells thingies you mean. . Well, er, uh, that is .... I don't have the slightest idea. I can respray some light gull grey, yes. Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't dig that deep. 1Best, Stef (#6)
  14. Hello, Not absolutely certain, but the auxiliary bleed engine doors are, as seen in the Verlinden walk-around about the J (UK). The landing gear doors and flaps sides are not though. The question needs to be raised, as it seems that the J had numerous "paint lives", some of them, repainte d with britsha hues, some other had the nose only repainted, etc. I choosed ZE 354, because I found a few good reference photos on the Web. And the walkaround of this very forum do seem to display red inner airbrakes (although turned pinkish by elements)
  15. Hello all, I hope you had a nice Christmas and lotsa new kits under the tree ... Work on the F-4 has been continuing, with the SUU-23 gun pod pylon being scratchbuilt, while the pod itsel is almost complete (still need some weathering, though). I've been using the excellent Master brass pitot and AoA sensor. I stll need to add the canera/periscope (don't know what the thingy is) on the left side of the canopy separation. Decals, from the Yellow Hammer sheet where added, too. Still a long way from home, but taking shape. As usual comments and inputs welcome. Click images to enlarge. Best Stef (#6)
  16. Hello all, Gee thanks for your inputs, I will go down the way of the dummy grey and blue sparrow, with acquisition head winder. Best, Stef (#6)
  17. Hello gentlement, I have a weapon question for you, regarding F-4J (UK) weapon configuration. I'm currently building a 1/32 F-4J Toom and will go with centerline SUU-23 gun pod (painted dark/olive green). I have a reference pic, showing such a green painted pod under a J, it seems there is as well two inert skyflash or Sparrow, one dark blue and another some kind of light grey, the pic caption states that these are ballast missiles ... That's OK, I will remove the kit Sparrow fins and that'l doo the trick. My question is, will there be can an inert AIM-9 be carried as well ? Config should be like that 2 wing gas bags, inert winder on the left inboard rail centerline SUU-23 pod 2 inert Sparrows in the front wells Thanks for your input. Best, Stef (#6)
  18. Hey Pip, Swell looking Mirage you've got there. Like the painting and the Modelmaster shades are OK, even though I find it a tad too "pastel" as the Gunze ones. Nice buil indeed, as this kit got fangs and fights all the way untill completion. Glad the undercarriage mods tip was useful. Cheers, Stef (#6)
  19. Hello there, Some work done on the F-4J. The good news is that I've been finding all my missing U/C doors !!! It was simply stored (in a place where I was sure to find it easily when the time comes ... Dummy!) Other items : Nose painted Barley grey with a brownish hue Gun pod prepartion (bubbles filled with Mister Surfacer 1200 and CA glue Gun pod assembly Centerline pylon build (still need to have the linking elements to make) And rebuild of one AWOL retracting rod .... 20. Hello Seawinder, Yes that's a good approach, it keeps the flexibility as you said . There's always more than one way to do things Best Stef (#6)
  21. Thanks a bunch Stever, I'll carry on with this one
  22. Hello there, Some progress on the Phantom. I'm struggling with the Flint grey/FS 16314 whatever colour it is that our american friends have been using to paint the J' fuselage and outer wing panels ... If the web is a stunning resource, pics are confusing as the hue is varying from duck eeg blue, or sky to .... Barley grey. So, here is my try , but I'm not convinced meself, as I find it not dense enough. On to your comms
  23. Thanks, that's clearer to me now. I saw the brownish hue under the grey that's why I've been pre-shading my radome with black and brown. OK, I will carry on from there, your ifos are gold-plated !
  24. Hi Stever, Thanks for that, I'll double check the RWR fairing of the fin tip, it's currently under masking tape .... I'm lost, the fuselage and outer wings panels are in Barley grey, and it seemed to me the nose cone was of a different hue ? Indeed, I'll dig a bit more in the piccies and make a special mix for it. @Antoine no scratch here, you know I'm a total dummy when it's coming to scracth
  25. Hello all, The day's work, on with the Barley grey. My intention is to have her fitted with the centerline gun pod. I've been reading the F-4J topic in the Cold War section and saw that some plane had the nose cone overpainted with the standard colour for (e.g. not the US colour), but what is the BS name of this colour ? Thanks in advance for your help.
