  1. Nice build, really like the hairy stick work. Do you find hairy stick slows down or speeds up your builds? Would you use it on 1/48 builds?
  2. Tony, thanks for all your advice. I've hung up my airbrush and been learning to brush paint. I only have access to Testors enamel and Testors acrylics. Here are a couple I did with a brush using Testors acrylics. The only thing with Testors acrylics is I have to use primer or else the paint lifts easily. With enamel I don't have to use primers. Also Testors acrylics white and yellows don't brush very well.
  3. Tony, thanks for your response it all makes sense and I'll keep practicing. How do you like Model Masters enamels? And there acrylics? So days to recoat enamels? Does that mean it takes two to three weeks to achieve desired look if brushing 3 light coats?
  4. Tony, I have a couple of brush painting questions if you don't mind....first your builds look great. My hobby store sells Testors/Model masters enamels no Humbrol. Do you thin the paint? If so how much? How long to you allow to dry before adding additional coats? Last question... What size flat brush for large areas 1/72 and 1/48 scale? Thank you very much.
  5. Still practicing my hand brushing techniques. I bought the Revell Bf109 to practice with and the P40. These are cheap kits with a 40 percent off coupon at Hobby Lobby and Michaels. I am also able to buy my paints and building supplies there dirt cheap. I am enjoying the brush painting, though it is tough and I have along way to go. I am keeping my builds simple since I have other hobbies that keep me busy and I have a lot builds in the que. I am using Testors enamel paints except for the P40, I was practicing with Testors acrylics. They work pretty good but require primer and numerous coats so the jury is still out. The Bf109 was build in 2 days, normally I would not build this fast allowing the paint to dry. My work keeps me away from home so keeping my builds simple will allow me to build my plastic models away at work and build my rockets and freeflight planes at home. I am going to by building my stash of 70s models that I am collecting to build. I remember my uncle living in Vietnam back in the late 60s early 70s and he used to build plastic models and they looked good. He used Testors paints with the cheap brushes, I figure if he could do it so can I. Still need more practice. Will clear coat and add decals. I build the P40 to try Testors acrylics. They work good but I like enamels better, less coats and I love the smell. Old Monogram Snap Tite model from the 70s built out of the box brushed with Testors olive enamel and cheap Testors nylon brush. Minicraft Reno Air build, hand brushed after spraying Testors flat white. Here is the cheap paints I bought, also had to custom mix the paints for a better color. My build que is adding up fast, models from the 70s I have to keep my plastic builds simple since I have other hobbies that keep me busy when I am home.
  6. I appreciate a the comments and advise, still have a lot to learn. I've searched the Internet and have not found very many brush painted Models using Testors everything I've found has been airbrushed with Testors. I can tell you that I am enjoying brush painting and will stick to it. I've searched YouTube and only found a couple videos on brush painting. I did find this one and have watched it a few times.
  7. Here are some of my recent builds. I just recently got back into scale models after a long break. In the 70s and 80s I hand brushed all my builds until I bought an airbrush, my results were better but set up, clean up and masking turned me off after a few years and a pile of unfinished builds. Over the years I have collected numerous aircrafts from the 70s and 80s I'll like to build. I am now back to hand brushing and having fun. Out of all the forums I like this one the most because there is a lot of quality hand brushers here. My builds are simple OOB minimal details and keep it simple. I use Testors paints here in the U.S. Because they are easier to get. I have brushed with their enamels and acrylics, but the jury is still out on the acrylics. They brush nice but even with a primer coat they sometimes chip or lift with masking. The enamels are very durable but a little harder to brush so any insite on hand brushing with Testors will be helpful. I am painting out of the jar with no thinning. I'm using Testors brushes.
