I know, late to the party again, but.... Have to say I disagree with spaddad. If one is building models solely to plunk on a shelf, for a collection, then yes, makes sense to buy kits in different scales, to get what you want, especially if the item is only available in 1 particular scale. However, if building scenes, diorama's, etc.. and having all items to one scale, I would not call that OCD, more a case of wanting it to look as correct as possible. Yes, you can get away with 1/72 and 1/76, or 1/32 and 1/35, with careful placement, but any greater difference in scales, and it becomes jarringly noticeable. It makes our 'toys' look very toy-like. Just my thought. Jim F

Which decals are you looking for? He's done a lot fewer in 1/72 that in the 2 larger scales, and, just glancing at the listings for both, seems all the 1/32 are also available in 1/48. And 1/48 only has 3 listed as sold out, unlike the 1/32 list. The RNAS items I want, in both 1/48 and 1/32, are going to be my next purchase. There are no others on his lists that I have a interest in. Jim F

Cool stuff, interesting topic and great to see something other than german this or that. Watching with interest. Jim F

Kevin, never mind, found the info on Scalemates. Jim F

The M.1c is def on my want list. Kevin Callahan, you made mention of early Short types. Is there a listing for these, showing which ones are coming? Thanks. Jim F

Steve, best place to find out what kits have been produced is Scalemates: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/ Just FWIW Jim F

John, the Felixstowe boats have been a interest, though dormant for most of the time, for decades. 1961, I'm 10, family is on vacation on Cape Cod, MA. Friends and I hear a sound, like motors, though not a deep, when a 2 engine biplane passes over head. First look, it seemed like a full size one. As we watch, however, it descends, vanishing behind a rock breakwater. We rush over and climb up, just in time to see it finish landing in the tidal pool. It was a model, though wingspan was at least 6'. A man is sitting at a small table at the edge of the water, with a radio like box in front of him. It was a model Felixstowe he had built, one based on a aircraft his Dad had flown in WWI. The radio control gear was all military surplus he had bought and used. Sorry to say, other than seeing him fly it one more time a day of 2 later, I did not think to get details about him, his dad, or the model. Kids! I have built models off and on for many years, cars, armour, figures, I but never really got into aircraft. However, about a year ago, I found out about Wingnut Wings' kits, and that they had done 2 versions of the Felixstowe. Since then, I have bought one of the early models, as well as a couple of the Roden 1/72 kits. This has also lead me into a big interest in the RNAS. Also, finding out one of the flyable aircraft in the Rise Of Flight flight sim, has got me trying to learn how to fly WWI aircraft, as well. LOL I started, a little bit, on the WnW kit, but a change in house arrangement has lost me my large space, so the kit will most likely not get built by me. I have one spot where I could fit a 1/48 scale one, with a bit or room to spare, so that will be my next purchase. I have found the 1/72 models are just too small and fiddly for me, nowadays. Anyway, such is how my interest in these fascinating aircraft started, and I'm still learning as I go along. Jim F

Berman, funny you should mention, I was thinking along those lines. If I can sell off my WnW Early kit, I want to buy the 1/48 one. Just will not have the room for the WnW one, if I ever get it finished. I had thought of modifying it ala the Roden kit, with the one upper wing gun position, but that 2 gun version look so cool. Regarding my original post, that will 'learn me'! I was so focused on the way the aircraft looked, and watching the ground crew, I missed what was right in front of me. The 2nd scene of a boat being brought from a hanger, shows it coming straight out, on a cradle just like the kit ones. So, as John stated above, it most likely depended on location as much as anything else. And finally, watching it again, focusing on the dollies, you can see how they turned it even with fixed position wheels. The side wheels are larger, allowing the cradle to be rocked either forward or backward, so the cradle turned on just the larger wheels. Learned my lesson for today LOL Jim F

John, yeah, you are correct. I should not have stated the cradles were wrong, but that there were variations. I've seen the pic you linked to, have it as one of my screen background slides, in fact. I guess it was seeing the video, right after reading the book, that caught me up. The smaller front wheel in the picture does appear to have a pivoting mount. The cradles in the kits do not. I would think any cradle would have to have either the pivoting smaller wheels, or the larger wheels mounted as in the video. Jim F

I just finished re-reading Hallam's "The Spider's Web" last week. I wanted to do so, now having a better understanding of RNAS operations. It was the 1st book, I think, that I read, regarding the RNAS. One detail he mentioned, was bringing the boats out from the hanger, sideways. With the dolly cradles supplied with the Roden and WnW kits, I wondered how this was done. After viewing this IWM video, I now realize, the model cradles are wrong. CSM stated when they announced the HP that pre-orders would begin in Dec. but there has been no word since, on their website, FB page or anywhere else I'm aware of. Is it still in the works? Jim F

Gorby, here's another outfit doing 3d, pricing similar to the Warlord Games items. https://trenchworx.com/ The Crossley Tender is now on my 'to order' list. Jim F

Realize this is a older thread, but for anyone interested, I just saw 3d printed WWI armor by a seller on ebay. He seems to produce in different scales. Close ups look a little rough, but might be worth it for vehicles not available elsewhere. Link to a 1/48 RR AC: https://www.ebay.com/itm/WW1-1-48-Scale-Rolls-Royce-Armoured-Car-High-Quality-3D-Printed-Tank/183489177145?hash=item2ab8cea639:g:bhoAAOSwHI5bxfT8:rk:1:pf:0 No affiliation, just came across it looking for 1/72, remembered this thread from before. How are the HR resin models of the Avro 504?

Adam, not sure what rigging is needed for WWII aircraft, this is the sub forum for WWI aircraft. Might try asking in the WWII sub forum. Jim F

I'm pre-ordering the CSM HP, and plan to buy the Lonestar Felixstowe. Have the WnW Filixstowe, and will most likely buy their HP. Just rearranged the shelves in my hobby room, all 4 will fit on the upper one. That's assuming I get them all built (or live that long ). Thankfully, the Lanc holds no modelling interest for me, or I then would be space short. Jim F

1st Copper State Models in 1.48, now this! Decisions, decisions! Jim F

I have seen mention of using the above for rigging, especially in 1/72, in some older kit build reviews on other sites. I believe .006" size was what was used. I assume it is a type of metal wire with ceramic coating? Has anyone used it, and does anyone have a source for it? Any info appreciated. Thanks. Jim F

Myself, I could care less, I'm not a WNW devotee, just enjoy modelling WWI aircraft. However, I can understand the negative comments, as a kit released of something a modeller does not want, or care about, means a kit he does want isn't being announced. Jim F

The Lanc announcement is now on the WNW Fans fb page, supposedly confirmed by one of the members, and is also showing on the Hobby Link Japan website, so probably a done deal. Hope there are enough foamers out there who will pay the price, to make it worth their doing it. If HK's forthcoming Lanc is priced a good amount less, that could also hurt sales. No interest for me, so I'm not gnashing my teeth Jim F

I had just ordered mine this AM from my fav dealer, after finally decoding I wanted one, and then read this news. I have to be honest, my timing is hardly ever this good Jim F

Jeff, I'm still working my way up the learning curve, regarding knowledge of the whole WWI aviation thing, regarding who was who, who flew what, where, when, etc.., but getting there. My initial primary interest is the RNAS, mostly stoked by the Felixstowe kit, but have always had a interest in UK and US coastal forces, mainly WWII up untill a few months ago. So, building up my library, reading quite a bit, and assessing what aircraft were used by them, that I would like to model, and which aircraft are available in which scales. The RFC would be my next step, and possibly the start of the RAF. At least, that means the number of kits OOP or hard to find is way less. Although I will probably build the Tripe as the Collishaw one, but who knows, buy the time a I get around to the build, perhaps there will be decals available for other RNAS ones. Jim F
