  1. I wished I had kept my 2000 Civic SiR in Nighthawk Black Pearl. I bought it brand new, and only kept it for 2 years to the day. This was a watered down coupe version of the Civic Type R that was exclusive to North America.

It  and the preceding 1999 model were the #1 stolen car in Canada for years. They were getting stolen and stripped as it was the only Honda sold in Canada that came with the B16 engine. Mine was never stolen or crashed so the dealer jumped all over it when I came in to trade it for a 2002 SiR.

  2. I've got a 1/12 Doyusha Countach in the stash which comes with the raised 5 holes rims. I much prefer the smooth faced version that the later cars came with so I contacted a vendor (Demon Resin) on eBay and he made some for me. He wanted to do some rims for the Trumpeter 1/12 GT40 and since I had that kit in my stash, I sent the kit wheels and tires to him to use as a template. He sent back a set of wheels for that kit as well

The best bit was I also sent the rims from my old Tamiya 1/12 MP4/6 kit and he made new tires for that as well as the required spacers to make them fit the kit wheels.

Not only did I get a set of slicks but also a set of rain tires on resin rims so I now have the option of going to either setup.

    PXL_20240411_175613599-L.jpg

Compared to the kit tires, this is a huge improvement. Just a bit out of round.

    PXL_20240411_180249981-L.jpg

I started the kit back in '93 and the original tires have degraded over time.  Now I stand a better chance of finishing it.

  3. I assembled the engine nozzles. They needed a bit of a clamping to hold things together.

    PXL_20240321_014129691-L.jpg

I then painted the canopy. This ended up being a multi step process. First I painted the canopy semi-gloss black and then sprayed the grey sections.

    PXL_20240323_001327008-L.jpg

The grey bits were masked off next.

    PXL_20240323_004150498-L.jpg

Finally I did touch up with the black.

    PXL_20240323_004553966-L.jpg

Next up, the two large stripes on the hull were masked.

    PXL_20240323_012101012-L.jpg

These were then done in a darker grey than the hull.

Last thing was drilling out the tips of the laser blasters and installing those on the hull.

  4. Turning to the upper hull, I attached the engine louvers.

    PXL_20240320_011704183-L.jpg

Followed by the mid section. These parts were a bit warped so I did the best I could closing up the gaps.

    PXL_20240320_125753357-L.jpg

The front LEDs were attached to the coaming panel.

    PXL_20240321_003120919-L.jpg

The wires were then run through the coaming and the panel glued in place.

I then attached the coaming to the hull.

  5. Well, I finally got the my build pics uploaded so time for an update.

I started on installing the LEDs. The lower ones go in the outer wings. This meant I had to first drill holes in the lower hull and through the wings, install the LEDs. Then close up the wings and finally attach them to the lower hull

    PXL_20240320_003211787-L.jpg

Into the lower wing and glued in place.

    Upper wing added.

    Attached to the lower hull.

    Here's a 1/32 BF-109 for a size comparison.

My workbench ends up the same way but as long as I know where everything is it works for me!  🙂

The biggest problem with mine is that my tool organizer is at the far right end of my bench and I do most of my work at the opposite end 6 ft away. Which means I don't put my tools back like I should. I'm in the midst of a complete reorg of the bench so hopefully things will be better.

  7. I finally got around to mounting the T-Rex to her base. The model comes with a juvenile Triceratops for the T-Rex to stand on/over but when I put her in place, the alignment of the eyes no longer worked. So I left the Triceratops out and just attached her to the base directly. I used a couple brass rods inserted into her fett I hold her upright and that was the last step.

I've got the adult Triceratops kit in the stash and hopefully all the parts to the Spinosaurus (my youngest ran off with it at some point). so those might be showing up soon.

  8. Thanks Pete! It is a very simple kit. Almost press fits together. A couple parts have a slight warp to them so we'll see how that goes. The lighting, I'm keeping simple on this one. The next lighting project will get a bit more complex.

As for paint, I probably have way too much. I'm trying to cut down on the different brands I have and stick to a few core ones- Gunze, Tamiya and AK Real Color. I would love to keep using TruColor but it's almost impossible to find in Canada now.

The 262 is part of the same GB. It's almost done.

  9. I finally decided on a new colour for the Raider and sprayed most of the big parts in one go.

    PXL_20240318_030525880-L.jpg

Yes my bench is a bit cluttered but no matter how much I clean it, it ends up this way within a couple hours.

To keep the area under the engine louvers black, I used the louvers themselves as masks.

    PXL_20240318_033052073-L.jpg

I then started doing random panels in a darker grey to pair shade the model. One half done.

    Topside all done.

  10. At this point, I decided I wasn't really happy with the grey I'd used. So I set the kit aside until the LEDs arrived .

For the pair under the canopy, I decided to mount them in the outer pair of tubes. I planned to drill the tubes out and stick the LEDs inside.

    PXL_20240317_192702848-L.jpg

Unfortunately the LEDs I bought were just slightly too big. So I went to Plan B and loped off the kit tubes and made new tubes from styrene. You can see the first one on the right.

    PXL_20240317_195849673-L.jpg

Suitably hollow and big enough for the LED.

    PXL_20240317_200944863-L.jpg

The cockpit coaming them needing a hole drilled in it for the wires to pass through.

  11. First order of business was to order some LEDs from Evan Designs for lighting the engines and the two front lights under the canopy.

While I waited for those to arrive, I started painting the model. I did a black base coat in the engines where the LEDs will go. .

    PXL_20240228_224038615-L.jpg

I then primed the exterior in black and started on a colour coat. I did a few alternating panels in a different shade of grey to break things up.

  12. There's a GB currently running on Large Scale Modeler with the subject of anything twin engines so I started this kit as part of it.

    PXL_20240226_175414948-L.jpg

Having been a BSG fan from when the original one was still new on TV through the more recent re-boot, I should have been more excited about the new kits when Moebius started making them. For whatever reason I wasn't until after they had been discontinued. Thankfully my LHS still had some in stock so I bought what they had.

In 1/32, this is a big kit.

    PXL_20240226_175427004-L.jpg

The upper hull still in plastic.

    PXL_20240226_175500932-L.jpg

There's not a lot of parts so it was quick and easy to do a mock up.

Ha! In fact it was you and @FG2Si that put me on to these conversions, and I was relieved to find one for the Revell kit, because that Tamiya Mustang is sacred 😂

Glad to have helped out! I need to get back to mine at some point but I've got so much on the bench at the moment (Mig -31 Firefox, Cylon Raider, F-15J Kai) it may be a while.
