Cool...I have some decals to do something similar, as well as a kit of a S-199 (Czech built 109). I've just started reading this: https://www.amazon.com/Angels-Sky-Volunteer-Airmen-Israel/dp/0393254771 Angels In The Sky....cool story about the pilots of the 1948 fledgling Israeli Air Force. Its a fascinating read so far, and I haven't even got to the fighter aircraft bit yet! Cheers Tania

That is lovely. Top job!

Love the Hunter. I see the Revell 1/72 kit is slated for a re-release this year. Seeing as I’ve been trying to find one for ages, this might be proof that “good things come to those who wait!”

KIWI P-40 Kittyhawk (Academy 1-72)
F1xena replied to thorfinn's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Marvellous! I've got that kit and the markings for Gloria Lyons. If mine (when done eventually) comes out half as nice as yours, I'll be a very happy girl. Thanks also for the background on the origin of the name. There are some very interesting stories out there..... Great to see some more Kiwi birds appearing here. It's nice to remember we had a strike force once....our airforce now is pretty much restricted to transport and maritime surveillance. Cheers Tania -
That looks absolutely brilliant. Was interested to see the “plan view” shots from above....it sure has some serious wingspan, something I had never really picked up from pictures I had seen in the past.

Thanks Ian, been hanging here a while, just looking mostly!

That’s a lovely looking thing Ian. Mottling skills look pretty good too! Nice work. T

Good idea...shades of the BAR 555/Lucky Strike Formula One car of 1999. Not for the traditionalists, but I like it!

Academy A-37B Dragonfly 1/72
F1xena replied to Tsar Bomba's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
I always thought they must have incredibly strong wings to carry all that ordnance, especially when subjected to the loading imposed by the low level attack role. Also, they sit so close to the ground it must be an acquired skill to land. Don’t flare until you feel your bum scraping the tarmac! Nice build of an interesting subject. Academy kits vary a lot, from very good, to the other extreme, but the nice ones are invariably great value for money. -
Matchbox Spitfire Mk22/24 1/32 scale
F1xena replied to stevej60's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Looks pretty jolly good to me, regardless of any inaccuracies or problems. Matchbox was my “go-to” brand back in my early days.....mainly 1/72, but I did stretch to the 1/32 Bf109. From memory I had to cut off the front top corner of the engine to get the cowl to fit. Great memories! -
Lovely builds....I see a lot of ANA aircraft, but hadn't realised what their old livery looked like.....the new one is a big improvement! Many Chinese airlines still retain those "old fashioned" liveries, and they just look wrong! Its always interesting to look back at what was cool in the past! Cheers Tania

A kiwi Spitfire ! Spitfire Mk XVI
F1xena replied to corsaircorp's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Here's an interesting co-incidence. http://www.spitfire.net.nz/representatives The Manawatu agent is in Rongotea. sorry, bit OT. Lovely model. -
Ahh, nostalgia. My first Spitfire model...those Matchbox kits were all I ever wanted. Just the boxes were cool. I still remember picking them up in the shop, looking through the window at the sprues, and admiring the amazing box art. Those stands were the bees knees too. Wonderful!
-
Thanks for making me feel so old....I thought I knew all the Matchbox kits, and didn't recognise this one.....because it is too new for me! Nice job though. Cheers Tania

I love these egg-plane kits...they just have so much character. I know some see them as a bit of a joke, or sacrilege even, but if they are a great un-blocker and good fun. The P38 is a favourite of mine and I don't mind seeing it getting the egg-treatment! Nice job. Cheers Tania

yes, and thats before you add some photo etch wire wheels and new tyres!. But when its the only game in town for that scale, its worth it for some! Cheers

Thanks for the tip...I do have a bottle of Kristal Kleer and have used it with some success. Sounds like I need to work on my technique a bit more! Cheers
-
Very nice work, especially bearing in mind the sow’s ear you started with. A technique question for you....what did you use to attach your headlight covers? They look excellent. Cheers Tania

Nice work. Out of interest, there is a detail set for this kit by Indycals, available from Shapeways...for those unfamiliar, Shapeways is a commercial 3D printing outfit to which you can upload designs. They print them for you, and if you want to, make them available for others to buy too. The set for this kit includes a detailed engine. https://www.shapeways.com/product/AURGTZLE8/alfa-romeo-158-update-kit?optionId=60111686 Cheers Tania

Nice work. Isn't it funny that we get numerous identical Spitfire or BF109 variants from every manufacturer, and other aircraft miss out completely? In general, the "piston twilight" fighters seem to be a bit neglected in 1/72. I've always had a soft spot for the Bearcat...its such a compact, grunty looking thing!

Bf109F-4z, 5/JG53, Sicily 1942
F1xena replied to airbus320's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thats lovely. I actually really like the clean paint finish. It's refreshing to see something not weathered "to death" (not criticising either way, but nice to see regardless!) -
That looks great! The camouflage is unusual on this aircraft, and as I have this boxing in my stash, i was wondering how to do it. Yours has indeed come out really well. Top job!
-
Yes...with no brakes (no hydraulic pressure) and just wheel chocks, they got blown into each other....wings through fuselages etc. they're were some pictures online somewhere. The scrapping pictures were even more disturbing, with excavators being used to break them up!

As a former BAe146 driver, it's always nice to see them modelled. I flew the -200, -200QC and the -300 for Ansett New Zealand on domestic ops throughout the country. At one stage we had 9 of the little beasties, all delivered brand new, except for the QC, which was a BAe demo aircraft (until repainted we called it The Jaffa as it had a large orange stylised "QC" on the tail) Repaint was done in Melbourne, and flying it home was my first proper international flight! When the airline folded in 2001 the aircraft went back to Melbourne where they were badly damaged in a storm and subsequently scrapped.
