  1. What a fantastic thread.

I think my first kit was an Eagle Spitfire from a fishing tackle shop in the highlands where we used to live. Moved to Dunfermline in the 60s where Woolies did Airfix with the big board with the Sunderland on it, and most of my pocket money went on series 1 bags. @albergman might remember the names. Souness had the Frog kits and the Canberra and P1 made their way home. There was one shop by the Glen gates, that had the Revell fighters, the Coop toy shop had the Frog box scale kits and exotic stuff like Lindbergh with the see through boxes. The Model & Hobby shop had the newer Frog kits and Triang railways as well as fishing tackle. Later, I used to get a big Airfix kit at Christmas, but never the Lancaster, despite my dad being ground crew on them.

My gran, in Coatbridge, bought me the Merit Swordfish floatplane in that odd tinny plastic which I started at hers and managed to get back home to finish.
All shops and models gone now, apart from some bits in the spares box.

  2. I was amazed, not only by the whole Zeppelin display, but also how amazingly small and intricate the models are. I don’t think I truly appreciated how tiny the gondolas, propellors and rigging wires are from the photos on the thread. A great piece of work.

  3. Grob Tutor, as some days on Flight Radar it’s the most numerous RAF aircraft flying…

Only slightly tongue in cheek, it would be nice to have modern kits of the current Air Force, as well as the recently out of service.

  4. Hendie, lots of intricate work there, I know how time consuming that sort of thing is in 2-D CAD.

I am afraid those blade roots in the final image jumped out at me, I hope they do look ok once printed, but there seems to be too much of a kink in them for a wood carving.

I am confident you will get it right in the end.

  5. Saw a bit of this 1950s film this morning, good images of Hellcat drone targets and Loon missiles as Glen Ford tries to make a diy missile submarine behind the Admiral's back. Lots of jeeps charging about as well.
