The exhausts are also Mk V, so I would imagine the engine would also have been changed. That wouldn't be unusual, I doubt an aircraft would go from 1941 to 1944 in wartime with the same engine. I don't think replacement cowls or panels would ever be noted anywhere, cannibalising air frames to keep aircraft flying was a commonplace practice. The aircraft suffered a serious forced landing on Predannock airfield in September 1941 after hitting a telegraph pole in a sweep over France, so who knows what was changed in that repair (or whether the re-spray was done then).

I assume this airframe is P7973 in the Australian War Memorial at Canberra. If it is, this Mk II was built in January 1941, at which time it would have been painted in Green/Dark Earth. It was in 33 Maintenance Unit at least twice before ending up at the Central Gunnery School in 1944. At some point, according to the IWM site, it was converted to Mk V standard, and. I would guess, repainted in Green/Grey Day Fighter scheme. The repaint, to me, looks a bit scruffy, not like the images I have seen of Spitfires at Castle Bromwich where the paint jobs are always very clean and precise.

No you can't. Looking at that photo, is that a museum exhibit? If so they would just have used whatever was available to replace a damaged part. Even the best do it, AB910 of the BBMF had a Mk9 propeller and exhaust stacks for many years.

I was thinking more of a Mk V cowl. Colours are 1941 or later.

I have just found a photo of a "green cross" Kate on the world war photos site which clearly shows a 2 on the rudder. It is not the same photo, or even the same Kate, as in the Bill Pippin owned photo.
-
I think they have taken the scheme from "The Nakajima B5N Kate" by Dr M.F. Hawkins, Profile Publications Profile No. 141. There is an artists impression of this aircraft there, but I don't know if there are any pictures as I don't have this book. If there is a fiction, it lies in that book. I have seen a picture, which is in the Bill Pippin Collection, of a Kate without the green cross on the tail, but the number seems clearly to be a "1" to me. Can't see a spinner on the picture due to the angle of the aircraft to the camera, but if one is required there is one in the kit (always assuming it is a Kate spinner, as on the other scheme, the Technical Air Intelligence example, Airfix note that it had a Zero spinner!).

How so? Perhaps you'd like to clarify that.

Wife's just noticed, it wasn't a double ended box, it was 2 boxes taped together! Somebodies made a mistake there!
-
Both ends had a red box in! 2 for the price of one. As I remember it, when I ordered it free postage was in the offer, it wasn't an option as such.
-
I received my box this morning, it stated that the membership card would arrive separately in the next 28 days. Was the cardboard box you received it in double ended? Mine was, so I opened the other end to get a nice surprise....

Well said. The only thing I have seen has been a message on Facebook from WNW themselves saying that due to the current "difficulties" deliveries might take a little longer than usual, nothing about them closing down permanently at all. Personally I have never bought one of their kits, mainly due to the fact that I could never do them justice, but I'm more than a little interested in the Lancaster nose section.

1/48 - DH.82a Tiger Moth by Airfix - released - new boxing in 2023

Ratch, I have no idea what you're getting so upset about, I see nothing wrong in what Work In Progress did. Once the link to the ATF was posted, that information was available here, however indirectly, and thus, to me, it was quite valid to clarify the point on here. Just my opinion, and, after-all, there is enough going on in the world to get upset about at the moment!- 177 replies

1/72 - Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vc by Airfix - released
john224 replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
And you don't think the Bristol Beaufort is an esoteric subject? -
Although I think a Harvard more likely, I would definitely buy a Chippie for that very reason. My only regret is that my CCF Flight Lieutenant somehow lost my Cadet Log Book (I only have a replacement), so I have no idea which Chippie's I flew in.
-
Only said 1/48 because Airfix seem to be getting serious about 1/48, and to me an aircraft that size suits 1/48 more than 1/72. (It's my eyes you understand!)
-
I would have thought a 1/48 Harvard before the Chippie, even more paint schemes, and operators around the world.

Are they really that bad? -
Can't tell from the pictures if the engine parts are on their own sprue, but if they are, how about releasing the engine as a kit on its own? With a neat little stand, and the prop reversed, it would make a fantastic desk fan! Seems a shame to put that much detail into it and not have it all on display. If this is a hit, especially in the States, I think the only question about what next is a Thunderbolt to partner the Mustang or a Corsair to alongside the Hellcat.

How about an Aerobatic Hunter boxing with options for the Black Arrows, Blue Diamonds and Patrouille Suisse?
-
Superb, and your photography matches your modelling skills

It has been previously stated that Airfix prefer to use plans and only scan as a last resort, so I would imagine that rules out modern aircraft, Boeing etc.

B52 ? (That is big!)
